I'd never thought to bring a 🎁. What I do is bring $100 in 5s, 10s & 20s. When confronted with awesome service, I'll give cash, but I also get their names. Then there is a 4-prong "attack."
    1) I give that person a cash tip just to say thanks.
    2) visit guest services to give the name of the awesome person.
    3) I mention all the names in the online survey that Carnival sends. And...
    4) I Tweet Compliments about them to Carnival on Twitter.
I do this because of one thing I learned on my last cruise. The ship's crew get promotions based on service and compliments received. So getting their name & letting the powers that be know about it is crucial to helping these hard working people who make sure our vacations are awesome get recognized in money AND promotions. ❤🛳

The crew MAKES a cruise. We always do extra cash. Building a friendship with the crew is one of my favorite parts of the cruise. Our first cruise was 11 years ago and I am STILL in contact with our waitress and we keep in contact on Facebook. I ask her about her children and she asks about my family as well. It is a special friend that I cherish. 💕

I always give cash and written recognition. I know they appreciate it, but I always try to connect each day. Use their names, write small thank you note and always leave chocolate. A handful of Hersey chocolates were throughly enjoyed by my steward and his fellow worker. I started getting thank yous from his coworker on day two when I realized they were thrilled to pop a sweet treat in each day. The dining staff also was happy to put chocolate in their mouths between courses. Love to share appreciation. I want to add mini gift bags for my up coming B2B! Keep the ideas coming!

definitely cash and verbal recognition.getting ready for our 2nd cruise this oct.on our first,Grand Princess to Alaska, our cabin steward Renaldo, was just super.my wife has diabetes,so he made sure right off the bat to turn down the cabin refrigerator and put in a bucket of ice for her insulin.remembered our names and was always smiling.it helped to put us at ease, and his service was a major part in our enjoying to the fullest our first cruise experience.going on the Grand Princess again to Mexico, and really hoping we have the good fortune to have Renaldo again for our room steward

I'm Mexican, besides tipping my steward. I bring Mexican snacks, candy, chocolate, chilli powder and other treats
-- I specifically look for MEXICAN crew members. They get SOOOOO excited when they get things they haven't been able to try for a while... Is like giving them a piece of home.
I've asked once if they wanted a Mexican flag, some Mexican themed door decorations. They said absolutely.. they use it for their cabin and some GPS -International pride parties for crew members only and even for 5 de mayo (which in Mexico we don't celebrate but they do on board) ;)

we just got home from our first cruise. we had a fantastic room steward. we had made up a tote bag which we filled with tide pods.i was told they have to do their own laundry. magnetic note pad.granola bars, energy drink, energy bars, candy.we gave them money in a note card to say how much we appreciate all they do for their guests, then i would leave her a good morning post it and she would leave me a message everyday. they we put in a good recommendation at customer service and gave her a note card with money in it for all her hard work.

Hi La Lido Loca! I just sailed over from Don’s Family Vavations, and I can see why he enjoys your channel! I love good information and try to watch all of Don’s.
Thanks for these great ideas, I make “junk” journals and recently started gifting them to the staff when I stay in a hotel, or receive excellent service that deserves rewarding. I think it would be a nice gift for the ship staff, as they can put trinkets and mementos in the book without taking up space. I failed to mention that they are small, about 5”x7” and a couple of inches thick

I was on a Carnival cruise 23 years ago with my wife(ex). Our room steward was the best and we were happy to give him extra cash for all his hard work. I still remember his name ,Bo. I wish I had known about the gift idea. After 23 years I am going on another cruise . This time solo and on the MSC Mereviglia. Gonna buy some gifts and hopefully bring a smile to someones face, as well as cash and a note. I also am going to hide some ducks and see how that goes.. More smiles maybe.. OH , by the way I am living in Regina ,Canada.. Wish me luck and thanks for the great video.

On our last cruise the head waiter was so absolutely wonderful getting dishes prepared for my wife's special dietary requirements which are hard to do. She always got great meals and desserts. At the end of the cruise we filled out a recognition card and wrapped that around a "C" note and gave it to him. Riccardo on the Emerald Princess is the best head waiter out there! He's been working on cruise ships for 27 years. He said after working cruises for a while he tried to work a 9-5 job and went back to working on cruise ships. He works 9 months then gets 3 months off. He loves the long down time. Of course he said his wife has plenty of honey-dos for him to do during his 3 months off. I asked if he ever takes a cruise during his time off. He laughed, no way.

I always take little thank you cards and put extra money inside. I leave it with a bottle of wine ( that we bring on board). The crew members work really hard to make sure we have a great time. I collect all names from the ones that serve us and put them all in the review email. The gift basket is not a bad idea. I always leave extra tips for my room steward at least $10 from each guest in the cabin. Also on our last dinner we all put money in an envelope for our dining room waiters, last cruise just my table gave them $100 to share between three. We budget for these tips before hand and as soon as we get on the ship we put it away so we don't accidentally spend it at the coin pusher LOL

This is a cool subject for you guys to discuss that I've seen on some forums. Secret doors, rooms, and balconies. One secret place I found out on the Ruby Princess which I'll be on soon is a table on a little deck on deck 16. There's also a secret door to a spot above the bridge on the Lido deck. It's locked while at sea due to winds but open when in port. Good place to go on sailaway day.

I live in Hawaii. When I finally get the chance to cruise, I plan to bring a bit of Aloha for the crew in the form of local treats. I can buy a box of little snack packs of chocolate covered macadamia nuts or Lilikoi (Hawaiian passion fruit) fruit bars.
My question is this: Is it best to give the box to the room steward on the first day, on the last day or give a couple packs each day? When I go to Vegas, I leave a few dollars for housekeeping every morning.
I'm not sure about little tchotckes though. "Hawaii" magnets could be used on the metal walls of the crew quarters but I don't know if they would want something like that. I was thinking maybe: fun-hula girl, pretty-hibiscus or plumeria flower, or cultural-"honu" green sea turtle, which is honored and revered here.
Another question: If I do plan to give a gift at the end of the cruise, is it difficult to seek the room steward out?

We always do cash in an envelope. Then when we're back home, we leave very detailed reviews for the AhhhMazingly Awesome Service we've received... Honestly tho, They do not want Our trinkets from home. Or t-shirts. Or Anything else that will take up space in their cabin(that's shared with 2-3othets btw). Crew's quarters are very very small...

i hear people always say that they pay daily gratuities and that is enough. I disagree. If there is someone that makes your vacation special ... don't be cheap and go the extra mile for them, because even though it may be their job, they still go the miles for you.
Additional tip ... if you have a room steward that you want to tip more, do it the night before debarkation. It gives you a chance to talk a little with them, without feeling rushed. It will make you feel better too.

We always tip extra to the room steward and if we have the same waiter and asst. waiter we tip them extra as well. These last 2 cruises they have moved us all over the dining room because we did the "anytime" dining.
We take along a gift basket but we make sure that it is edibles since their storage is so limited. If we cruise at Christmas time I wrap the items up so they have something to open Christmas morning.
I personally would not bring toiletries because you may like the smell of a flowery shampoo but the receiver may not.

I haven't been on a cruise yet but hope to in the very near post-Covid future. I am from Hawaii and want to bring little packets of chocolate-covered macadamia nut treats as gifts for the room steward, etc. My question is, if I want to give a whole package to disperse among the rest of the staff, how would I do that? Would I leave it in the room on the last day with a note?
I want to gift something from Hawaii but am not sure about giving a tchotcke or something touristy. I figure chocolate and nuts are an almost guaranteed hit.

That special service is what the tip's meant to cover. I know, nowadays figuring out just who gets what and in what proportion out of that is a free-for-all. By definition, the TIP is for unusually good service. I was a nurse, and not one time did see a fellow nurse offered a tip (verboten, anyway) or a gift. Where are our priorities? As as nurse, I'd have put my workload and material dealt with up against a cabin steward's any day.

On a FB page, a former crew member (? Veracity of the poster,) said it was written into their contracts that all tips must go into the tip pool to be shared. Any idea if this is true.

We'll be taking our first cruise in September (12 days), and I'm wondering if you have the same cabin steward for the whole cruise? Thanks :)

Yes. You usually have the same steward for the whole cruise. - Tony

Michelle Saldana sometimes if you have the same waiters you might consider them also. Most of the time we focus on the room steward. - Tony

I would rather give an extra tip to the steward at the end of the cruise. The only time I didn't do that was on one cruise the steward kept just walking into The stateroom and catching me in my undies.
