I just learned about this variant. I still have my SMB3 CIB from when I bought it originally back in the day. I have a "Left Bros" box, but it was definitely packed with a "Right Bros" manual and game. So mine came somewhere during the switchover.
I have one of each. Right Bros is factory sealed, and left Bros is CIB/mint. I used to manage a Babbage's store in the 90's and built up a lot of missing games that I wanted during this time. NES games were all 2 for $5 during sales. and I also got a 30% off employee discount on top of that. So it was hard to resist buying them. In fact I bought pretty much every game that I was missing. Most were traded in as loosed cart, but some were CIB. I would buy at least one NES game every day that I worked there. Fun times. :)
This is going to sound so stupid, I know, but it makes happy that you not only watch my content, you regularly comment, but then you even check the addresses where things in my videos come from! Thank you for being a genuinely wonderful person, Larry.
@@RoXolid Ah bless you Sir, yeah you do great content (well, obviously as I wouldn't watch it) Always got a thing for looking up old addresses on Google Earth, especially old developers/publishers. Bit sad when the building they were in has been demolished since Etc. :(
OMG YOU'RE THE GUY THAT GOT RIGGS ON THE BRITE BOY? Lol that's crazy I've watched him for years and only happened onto your channel because I looked at my SMB3 and was wondering which one I had and what the difference was. It was a Google search, but because you're cool with John I'm gonna sub lol oh ya, I got a right bros 😭
There's actually another diference on the label. If you look at the Official Nintendo Seal logo, on the early release it says TM next to it. On the later release, it has the circled R next to it.
This reminds me of Tetris, on the Game Boy. It has a variation with a different song in it, and a slightly different text-string. Also a hypen on the box, and in the manual I think aswell. The spire on the cartridge on the first prints of the game, has the spire on the artwork is in a slightly different position than re-prints. Thank you for sharing this! Very fascinating!
You see me posted up on Facebook, but man am I glad I actually have a complete in box Left Bros. If you really want me to rub it in, you won't believe how much I got it for. Good vid Gary!
Thank you Gary I just picked up a few from people slipping! Turns out my original copy is a left bros too I didn't even realize this was a thing thank you for pointing it out to us! AWESOME!
I recently got a nes console and cartridge lot full of games. It included some of my favorite NES games including Mario 3, and it was the left bros. I didn’t even know that was a difference until recently!
Was there an issue with the "left" Bros. freezing on the last level of the game so they fixed that, or am I completely wrong? I remember my game freezing sometimes when I was a kid on the last level. But since I was 5 or 6 years old I don't remember which label variant I had.
Although I find label variants very interesting, price charting lists the left bros at $24.95 loose and right beos at $15.34 only a $9.61 difference in value or do you value the left bros variant to be worth more as compaired to the right bros? Just woundering. Of real interest to me is that brighting compound you speak of. Do you have a link to purchase the bright boy. Ive been told the detox it is also a great product.Ive been using contact cleaner for the last 25 yrs but always open to better methods.
Your copy was definitely a rental. Im curious if they got an earlier release of the game cause of them being a rental store. I recently just got a left bro's from mercari
I was just at Disk replays & found a left bros for $12 I also seen one in box as well. Thanks for letting us know about this error I might go back & pick it up. 😎👍
Does Left Bros have the original names for the worlds in the credits? That's the version I had as a kid, but I don't remember looking at the Bros closely as I don't have it anymore.
Yes, Left Bros. has the original names before they changed them all to "Land" at the end. Left Bros. also has a typo in the N-Spade game, more commonly known as the card flip game, that was corrected in the second revision. It reads as, "Flip over any two cards and see if they match. Miss twice and your out!". It should be "you're out", but that wouldn't have fit in the text box. They ended up changing the whole second line to "You can only miss twice".
I didn't know about the difference, mine is a left bros but it's my only NES game and I cleaned it to sell it+NES. Hopefully it goes to someone more passionate about NES collecting than me, thanks for the vid.
The movie. Madagascar 2 I think? Motto motto. Why didn't you clean the entire outer shell of the cartridge? When I buy used games, I wipe them down with a. Damp cloth. I just picture all the nasty gunk from years of little kids eating Cheetos and slobbering all over the cartridge
@@jonniefast oh ok yeah lol. I skipped the cleaning part of his vid. Must have skipped when he said that lol. So that's why the rom goes faster on my ever drive. I thought the game was broken lol.
Why? Sony was, and probably still is, a major producer of semiconductor chips. It's not really that unusual, even during times where the same brands competed with each other. I mean, nobody is weirded out when they see Samsung RAM chips in an Apple iPhone, right? And that particular Sony chip is just an SRAM chip ... and nothing special, either. A manufacturer's datasheet for that part is even available online. Also, the board of the other copy of that same game uses an NEC chip, but no doubt an industry standard SRAM chip with specs similar to, if not the same as, the Sony part. Nintendo likely just purchased parts from the best available sources at the times they needed them for making their game paks.
