I heard on a program several years ago that the gulf state and other countries, like South Korea, were sniffing around Africa to find arable land to grow crops for their own people. Due to rapid economic development in their own countries, open spaces for agriculture were becoming increasingly difficult to find.
Then the African nations should grow the crops these countries need. It would create wealth for the farmers and traders.
China has been doing this for years in east Africa
In a TedTalk speech, the speaker stated that it is already known that the purest water, in the future, will ONLY be in Africa. No doubt, scientists and governments outside of Africa already know this. What do you think they're going to do?
This needs to stop immediately and those sales must come under scrutiny instantly.

There is no country in the world where foreign nationals or company can purchase a land, it can only be on lease if possible otherwise change of government or citizen revolt will make it null and void so those African government selling land to foreign companies should be mindful because their citizen can reject such move.

The African Union has proven to be useless, especially when you consider that foreign nations have a seat as an observer and has some influence. Remember when President Museveni said the AU wanted to intervene in the conflict in Libya against Ghadaffi and NATO strongly warned against interference or suffer dire consequences.

You do have individuals buying property and land on the continent. Many are private people and so you won't hear about them.

Now you can understand why countries like Ghana only lease its lands. Most of the lands are governed by the chiefs and family lands. People complaining why Ghana dont allow people to own lands, well if they did they may end up like what is happening to a lot those African countries giving away their lands to outsiders.smh.. African countries at large should follow ghana example and never allow anyone to own any land in their country. It should be 50 year lease for foreigners and 99 year lease for citizens. But never should anyone own the land the land is for the future generations to come who are the rightful heirs of the land as a collective.
