      Hello Ryn!
Yes it is. I hadn't really thought about it much until you made a comment in one of your videos that said something along the lines of: Without a plan, you're planning to fail.
That stuck with me and I now put a lot more conscious thought into the planning stage of my art. Thank you for that!

@@PyrographyMadeEasy "Fail to plan, plan to fail." That was said to me by the great watercolourist, Wade, Robert.

I knew it was something concise and catchy, but my ancient brain couldn't remember the exact wording. It's great advice

@@PyrographyMadeEasy Haha, at ancient brain. :-) One thing about living in aged care that I love, is seeing the younger carers having WORSE memories than me and my friends here.

Hi Brenda ! This is a really detailed tutorial packed with info .. i found it very interesting how you create your portraits. Once the image is placed on the wood or paper then it is the skill of your shading that brings this portrait to life. Excellent video tutorial from you Brenda ! A big like from me..

Brenda, I want try this portrait and planning wood I want to use. I bought some pre-cut 10x10 birch that I started another project on to test the wood. After sanding
it was very smooth. Once I started burning, when I needed to make a dark burn the wood acted like it had wax on it and I couldn't get an even dark burn.
    What am I doing wrong?

      Hi Deborah,
I doubt you're doing anything wrong. I've encountered bad boards that do not burn evenly.
The board might have spots of really tight grain and that makes it difficult to burn over.
You might try using the back side of the board. Or let this board become the scrap board you test out pen tips, heat settings, burn strokes, etc., on.
