As a Kenyan in Thailand an really proud of Momo company.Protecting the environment, education enabler, smart business practices. Absolutely amazing. I grew up poor in rural america. in the 1950s being without something as simple as a pencil was a devastating event, often resulting in disciplinary action. Your donation programs are great. Keep up the good work, you're onto something that will benefit the world.
I get you but if we were to give him a suggestion how would he go about making it less labour intensive if anyone has a suggestion may you kindly comment
I hope their business grows and thrives. Crazy how american kids casually lose one of many pencils without a care while these kids would love to have a few each. Bless these business owners and Kenyan schoolchildren
Why? Look at the numbers on there goals and production rate. Would take them 333 years to provide free pencils at a rate of 3000 a year donated. The goal could be reached in 10 days of production. If they donated 1 days production a year they would reach there goal in 10 years. A hours time a year donated would take 80 years. To reach there goal in 333 years they are literally donating 249.75 minutes of production time a year (4.16 hours) They don't care about the kids lol
Amazing how many people who are concerned about American children losing pencils are most likely eating beef, the biggest contributor on the planet to deforestation.
@Jon The Only joke or not, it is also what comes in my mind. Kids here in indonesia (esp in cities) bring tablets or chromebook to school. They write in books but with a pen.

We had these in the 2000s. The had perfume infused into them and cost like 15$ for a box of 3 if you had one you were the coolest kind in the class for the week it still smelled. They sold them with a plastic container to store them in too keep the scent in ruining their claims of being eco freindly.

@@DiscoChixify Ummmm, huh? That's a big jump, I said I read it on the internet, it must be true. And you're over here saying I don't believe in climate change. Strange. Very strange.
Look into plants native to your area and use those for landscaping in your yard or garden. You can grow them from seeds too and give your transplants to your friends and family for their gardens. I really like native wildflowers as a gift for friends and family. I’ve grown some to add to my aunts garden and given a few to my mother in law. Our pollinators are super important to the environment and not all of them are bees. But a lot of landscaping where I live has either no flowers or plants that aren’t native. I have been considering buying bags of drought tolerant grass seeds though, to sprinkle around the yards in my neighborhood where the grass is dying off from a lack of rain and restricted watering. I saw a small bag of grass seed that was drought tolerant, and it could grow in full sun and in full shade. It’s not native but it is a type of ground cover that could help reduce the heat by covering the bare patches of soil, reduce the amount of dirt picked up by the wind that contributes to poor air quality, help reduce the need to water, and keep more water in the soil which will eventually help our water table. The benefit is also that adding these grass seeds to peoples lawns is something they likely wouldn’t be upset about because they already have grass there. The down side is it’s like $40 for a 10 lb bag and people might not be comfortable with a stranger putting “something” in their yard. So it would have to be very carefully done. Even a couple of seeds that grow plants that are better equipped to handle the environment would help though. Those few seeds would grow grass that would eventually spread over their entire yard and out compete with the dying grass they currently have. Once established though, it would be a big help.
There are a lot of neglected public spaces out here where I live and I’ve been considering throwing around some native wild flower seeds in those big old dirt patches to see what grows. No harm in spreading native plants or beautifying the landscape. And it helps the pollinators. The monarch butterflies travel through this area every year during migration and it would be so nice to offer them a little bit more fuel along their way. Some fly frantically day and night and others stop at night before continuing during the day. Another thing I’ve been considering is buying potted native plants and taking them with me on hiking trails to plant in those areas. Some are plants that can get to 8’ tall and make great hedges but are also beautiful as stand alone plants. A bit of shade for future hikers would be nice, I think. Especially if I’m planting native plants that I already recognize in my area on those hiking trails. I figure grouping a few more together wouldn’t hurt. I live in a big city but we still have some wild spaces with deer, coyotes, rabbits, snakes etc and adding a few more plants might help give them safer habitats with more food so they don’t have to keep getting into apartment complexes and stuff. Coyotes have been eating cats and dogs in my neighborhood because food is becoming more scarce where they’re living.
There was a time, during elementary school, I got to use pencils made from recycled paper like these. Sadly, it didn't continue for long. I live in Vietnam. I have no idea where those pencils I used came from or where to buy them.
I remember those! I remember using those as a kid here in the United States. They were a little bit softer than normal pencils. There were also pencils that were made out of recycle US currency. They were similar, but had a green tint.
Another unique idea made real by hardworking individuals and it's good for the environment! I do wish though that large companies would try to do the same and help with climate change. Sounds like a win- win to me.
Big companies do make them it's called Smencils they used to sell them in plastic carrying chambers because they soaked them in perfumes. Honestly its a crap product that kept having the tip break off bease the paper didn't support the graphite and when you go to sharpen it their was a non zero chance it would unravel on you. Don't even hope to have it last beond half it's length in a electic sharpener.
There are huge companies in America that have been making these for decades now. The previous comment mentioned smencils, I loved those things lol. But they were useless to use, so we all just had them for novelty sake. The graphite always comes out as a whole because there's no way to keep it in the paper lol
This kind of shows me that we cant really save the climate by just electric cars , there is alot of work that needs to be done than just EVs .landfills, Tree cutting, plastic wastes, human wastes, are major factors
This has been a thing for about 50 years and hasn't taken off very well... I had a bunch when I was in elementary but if this was as innovative as people think, it would be a bigger product by now wouldn't it?
@@teenat7044 didnt listen to the video did yea, the price to make these pencils is three times the cost. In order to save the economy, everyone must go out and buy a $1500 folding phone and sign up for 10 streaming services. Get a $6 coffee every morning in your new ev, throw away all your perfectly good hd tv’s and buy bigger 8k tv’s… that’s really what these companies are banking on
great! other ideas for reducing pollution: funding green action by taxing corporations and billionaires and punishing their polluting efforts; banning oil developments
I really hope that these can be global and children in our country too can be able to use it, rather than seeing the price we should talk about how to preserve our environment and make it beautiful. Wish you success man.
This is work of true genius minds. Recycling, education, jobs, eco friendly. Hits all positive goal. The company should receive some more funding to grow more. Benefits human species
There is no question that they work for a big cause, but they are generating waste from their packaging. It’s wrapped in plastic. I hope this business grows and improve its packaging in more sustainable way.
And HOLD UP- in North America we plant forests for the specific intent of being turned into pencils and news print. We quit cutting old growth hardwood for paper production more than a hundred years ago.
I love the Actual Africans .. Despite abject poverty, no access to food, or clean water. These people never ever play the victim card. This breeds a 'Can do' mentality and come up with ingenious ideas...
If you put this in an electric sharpener it would destroy the sharpener lol! I had these as a kid and the big rule our schools had was never shove them in electric sharpeners because it would unravel and clog them all the time
I had one as a kid back in 2009, but it was not wood, you could read some of the writing. Ngl it was my favourite pencil, loved the sound it made when you sharpened it.
this is actually good . A normal wooden pencil in India has the average cost of 5 rupees(0.063dollars) but this pencil is almost the same price . this is actually affordable in a country like India excluding the transport prices from Kenya .It is eco friendly tooo! WOHA hats off to Kenya they have good number of eco friendly ideas, this is a great invention for the betterment environment and also the flip flop sculptures they are making.
At first I was really into the idea. I love recycling. BUT, when you sharpen the pencils you throw the waste in the trash, that will burn also. So the methan gas from burning newspapers are not gonna stop, unfortunately.
Maybe keep prices low in Kenya but sell them at a higher cost to the west. I wouldn't mind paying more for them personally, knowing they were made with good ethics. This is brilliant.
This is actually a blessing,, we can also start using plastic pencils that we can use for several years other than using wood pencils to let the environment breath well.
So they said they read al the comments, a place that does very similar stuff is the Hospital de Pediatría Garrahan in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They made a huge campaign to recycle bottle caps, paper and I think also keys. The profits go to the hospital for funding. I've bought some pencils and a couple books from them and the quality is amazing! So if you ever make it here to arg you could take a look at that. Oh also "botellas de amor" is another project here that uses single use plastic to make plastic wood that then donates to make park games for kids

It's not eco friendly, and they donate literally 0,01% of their production. It's a business, that's it.

Seeing how happy a child can be something as simple as a pencil is priceless.
When you hungry food becomes more tasty.
Absolutely amazing. I grew up poor in rural america. in the 1950s being without something as simple as a pencil was a devastating event, often resulting in disciplinary action. Your donation programs are great. Keep up the good work, you're onto something that will benefit the world.
i had to sharpen both ends of my pencils so that it doesn't get blunt on written exams
The concept of recycling paper into pen is impressive. He needs to find ways to make less labor intensive bringing the price of the pencils down
But that will remove a lot of people from their jobs
I believe creating "good" paid jobs for the people in this area is as important as recylcling this paper
I just looked at the price and they are not that expensive. They aren't cheap but you pay the same for other branded pencils
I get you but if we were to give him a suggestion how would he go about making it less labour intensive if anyone has a suggestion may you kindly comment
Dont lower it
I hope their business grows and thrives.
To reach there goal in 333 years they are literally donating 249.75 minutes of production time a year (4.16 hours)
They don't care about the kids lol
Amazing how many people who are concerned about American children losing pencils are most likely eating beef, the biggest contributor on the planet to deforestation.
@Jon The Only joke or not, it is also what comes in my mind. Kids here in indonesia (esp in cities) bring tablets or chromebook to school. They write in books but with a pen.

@@DiscoChixify Ummmm, huh? That's a big jump, I said I read it on the internet, it must be true. And you're over here saying I don't believe in climate change. Strange. Very strange.
Videos like these make me want to do more to help with climate and make a change not only in myself but with friends and family.
Try eating purely plant based :)
You are all blind if you think this kind of shit will reduce even 0.001% of all the plastic humans consume
They still end up in landfills though...

great! other ideas for reducing pollution: funding green action by taxing corporations and billionaires and punishing their polluting efforts; banning oil developments
Its eco-friendly and might save a lot of tree, but most important question is can it be made as industrial scale. It s very labor intensive as of now
It can, if they start using machines to put glue onto newspapers and cutting them.
Been done for a long time. Why is this seen as revolutionary? We had these pencils growing up

If you put this in an electric sharpener it would destroy the sharpener lol! I had these as a kid and the big rule our schools had was never shove them in electric sharpeners because it would unravel and clog them all the time

This should be the standard all over the world.
I used to use those kinds of pencils when I was younger
At first I was really into the idea. I love recycling. BUT, when you sharpen the pencils you throw the waste in the trash, that will burn also. So the methan gas from burning newspapers are not gonna stop, unfortunately.
I wish these were more available worldwide, you’re doing an amazing job ❤️
this editor did a fabulous job

Brilliant problem solving
BRAVO! we need more poeople like this! For sure it will help our world!
Maybe keep prices low in Kenya but sell them at a higher cost to the west. I wouldn't mind paying more for them personally, knowing they were made with good ethics. This is brilliant.

Pencil sharpener would be cool. Like, an automatic one. May help speed up the process and they wouldn’t have to twist their wrists.
This brings me back to the scented pencils made from recycled newspaper Smencils
thats about right
Wow, graphite pencils and news on actual paper, what century is this again?
What on earth, both are still commonly and widely used across the globe
why would anyone buy expensive one? They must try to reduce manufacturing cost.
This is actually a blessing,, we can also start using plastic pencils that we can use for several years other than using wood pencils to let the environment breath well.
I use newspaper pencils and the texture and the thickness and how dark it is, everything is just so good
This is awesome! In the states at least where I’m from, I remember my teachers having pencils made out of recycled paper.
This is the kind of business America should invest in
video idea: i would love to see one about the traditional thatching methods used to make old danish roofs.
Beautiful to see all those kids planting trees 🤜🤛❤️❤️❤️
This has been around since I was a kid. They were scented.
Smencils!
