    Back Matt Gray's "Refourmation" C64 remix album @ www.kickstarter.com/projects/...
    Developed and published by System 3 in 1988
    Continuing System 3's ground breaking Last Ninja trilogy, Last Ninja 2 leaves the Eastern mythos of feudal Japan behind, travelling through time to modern-day Ney York City. Armakuni continues his mission of vengeance against evil Shogun Kunitoki, but is the legendary shadow warrior prepared to deal with street-smart punks and modern technology?
    Considered by most C64 owners to be the pinnacle in the LN series, Matt Gray's stellar soundtrack is a huge part of the game's success. Be sure to check out Matt's "Reformation" series of C64 remix albums, available for purchase over @ c64audio.com/pages/matt-grays...

      I still remember loading this up on the C64 for the first time - I'd already played the original Last Ninja and I was expecting the same kind of rural Japanese motif with the music so Last Ninja 2 blew my Goddamn mind with its urban semi-techno beats.

      @@v3teran75 Oh yeah definitely. Without the complete walkthrough in Zzap 64, I probably wouldn't have reached the end of the game. I had it on TAPE, mind you ! I would spend literal hours playing/waiting for the next level to load while listening to cool music. I even copied the walkthrough on my website (that was before Iain Black made all of Zzap available). I could go on and on about Zzap.

    This series impresses me with how ambitious it is. I trust your description that the music was the main selling point, but the gameplay doesn't look half-bad either, and IMO the animation of the people is very well done. Question though: could you sit and enjoy the loading music between each level and press a button when you were ready to advance to the next stage, and was being able to listen to the entire song a standard feature of Commodore 64 games?

    • @AL82RetrogamingLongplays
      @AL82RetrogamingLongplays  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It depends on how the game was coded. Some games took longer to load than the actual piece of music, so you'd get to hear the complete track anyway. Others (like LN2) were composed to be longer than the loading time, but it doesn't move on until your ready. It wasn't uncommon for folks to simply stop the tape during the loading process just so they could listen to the music (especially if the actual game was rubbish).
      The other thing that was pretty common for C64 games was inclusion of "mini games" that would load into memory and you could play while the main game was loading (search for C64 Invade-a-load and you'll get a good idea) - again, not uncommon to stop the tape and play the mini-game if it was better than the main game on the tape!

    • @breaque
      @breaque 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was around back then and the main selling point definitely wasn't "music", it was "ninja". That, and the superb graphics. That said, of course everyone liked the music as well :)

    Oh yes...I certainly rember this game -spent countless of hours completing this ultra-legendary game without cheating. I was mere eleven when it came out. We of that generation were used to mega-difficult video/computer games taking months and sometimes years to complete. Most kids of today hasn´t got the patience as it seems hence games of today are tragically easy.
