The same dudes did just a McDonalds specific UK vs US TH-cam video and in that one they show all the ingredients in both. It really highlights the 'poison' in US food.

11:50 It‘s called Venti (20 in Italian) because it‘s twenty ounces. However, nobody in Italy (or Europe) has any idea what an ounce is, and anyone drinking a 600ml coffee would be declared insane in Italy.

This is a compilation of snippets from multiple videos, just focusing on size comparison. If you watch the full videos for each fast food restaurant, you get details on what ingredients are in each. They also include differences in the full menus showing what each country has which the other doesn't

It's surprising the steritype isn't even more accurate, i don't know how you could avoid getting fat if you eat fast food there, especially with less time off work to try and keep fit

Why was he struggling to find a word for a 3 foot long sandwich? It’s a yard for God’s sake. I thought Americans were supposed to be better at those sort of measurements than us.😂
They were also a bit out on the fluid measurements. I think most people are aware that UK gallons/quarts/pints are about 20% bigger than US ones. What not so many people know is that our fluid ounces are different too. In that case, the US fluid ounce is bigger by about 4%. Not only is a UK pint, 20 fluid ounces, but they are different sized fluid ounces. There’s only 19.215 US fluid ounces in a UK pint. So when they were comparing drinks in the UK and US saying they both come in 12, 16 and 20 ounces they’re not the same size, the US ones are still slightly bigger.

Actually, because of the relationship between diameter and area when it comes to circles, that 0.5 inch difference mounts up to more than you'd intuitively think it would. An 11.5 inch diameter pizza has an area of 103.37 square inches. A 12 inch diameter pizza has an area of 113.10 square inches. Americans are getting just under an extra slice's worth of pizza (assuming 8 slices as shown in the video).

He broke the 30 second rule!
I'm not really surprised by the quantity of food. A friend of mine went to Orlando in Florida and told me about the baskets of fries you could get for a dollar. It sounded like you can eat for a week on US portions.

While the Starbucks coffee might seem the same, the Customary system used in US is not the same as UK Imperial. Also in UK the drinks would be rounded up or down to the nearest 10ml because, like it or not, we have been using the metric system for 57 years!
20 fl oz in UK would be a pint, so just like a 'pint' of milk the Venti would be rounded down to 500ml, so our British guy did well to get 18oz tbf. The Venti in US however would be closer to 600ml or 1 pint 4oz in American Customary system.

What they didn't say here is the US food contains so much more salt than here in the UK. Infact our fast food here in the UK has some of the lowest salt levels compared to the EU and Australia aswell.

With the Dominos, remember that the size is the diameter. So, a 12" pizza has a 20% larger diameter than a 10" pizza, but that means an area of 157 square inches versus 79 square inches... which means the 12" pizza is actually double the size of the 10".

That was interesting- in that there were a few things that were the same! And Burger King fries - Uh-oh!
You should watch their McD's only video- they go into ingredients in that one, and frankly- we in the UK win!
I also checked on sizes/ prices after watching that video - and although you in the US get bigger portions, the cost per weight is roughly the same, so you don't get better value for money with your big portions.

  • @AholeAtheist
    @AholeAtheist 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Okay, a few comparisons from a kiwi.. I think Mcd's and BK have around the same size drinks, 12oz, 16oz and 22oz, which is halfway between the UK and US sizes.
With the fries, our small is the size of the UK small/medium, and medium and large look basically the same as the American. Except for the KFC ones, I'm not sure there but I think they'd be in between the two like the drinks.
As for the chicken I think we have the American sized buckets. People love KFC here. LOL
Our pizzas are generally the same size as the American ones, except we don't really have small or individual ones anymore(pretty sure Pizza Hut used to) just Large(14") and XL(16') sometimes they'll sell an XXL size "New York size" pizza that's 18". What they're selling in the UK is abysmal.
Not sure if we even have Starbucks here, but coffees most places generally come in regular or large, a regular is 8oz and a large is 12oz.

When I went to New York,I thought I would try some fast food chains out to see if there was any difference in food portions. I was shocked by the huge difference. Even in Subway I had to tell them to stop with with the crazy amount of fillings. Every morning at the hotel, there would be a huge buffet, including chips/fries and so much more. It actually put me off my breakfast looking at so much crap first thing in the morning, when all I wanted was toast and maybe cereal. That’s when I realised why America has such a high obesity problem. And now it is growing in UK.People are so lazy going to fast foods regularly, not even having to do any walking, just sit on their big behinds and drive on through. It should be a treat now and again! Home cooking is the best and so healthy and easy to do!People of today have just become lazy gits. Mae’r Bwyd yn ofnadwy! Llawn o sbwriel, cachu! 🍟🍔💩😬🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿❤️🌎🇺🇸

You'd think, considering that the US is forty times larger than the UK, and with its densely populated cities, that they'd be stricter with their portion sizes. And yet, for most, theor smallest portions in the US were larger that the largest portion in the UK

That half inch difference on Dominos is deceptively large. The area of a 11.5inch pizza is 103square inches, the area of a 12 inch pizza is 113square inches. That's almost 10% difference.
