@scott I got a Gemini twin from Jeff who lives here in Bali. I also got a pickle fork from Ryan this year. They are nothing alike, at all, in any way. Ok ok - except for having 2 pointies up front. But I don’t think they really have the same intention or share any design principles. They are both wonderful, and wonderfully strange looking. The pickle twin is hands down, the most high performance board I have ever surfed - it’s far outside of my comfort zone, but that’s not to say it isn’t amazing to surf. And for the record @DLS he can make them for mortals too - I went for a step up version @6’6” and he pumped mine up a bit to 19” x 2 7/16”. When there’s a bit of shape and energy in the ocean, it flies, and is incredibly responsive. One of the most unusual and exciting boards I’ve tried *end scene
26:00 Good to hear about some smaller independent contests hosting great surfers in good conditions. Maybe surfing could be more like Rodeo where the cowboys just show up, pay their entry fee and compete. Maybe the power move against big corporate style people controlling surfing is to ignore them and build something ground up, less money focused, more community focused, that speaks to the core community and in so doing take it from the man. 39:00 Thumbs up for creating a safe space for real people to tell their story.
The thing we always forget is that the WSL, for all its faults and failures, does a really nice technical broadcast. And that's not cheap and we all want to watch!
@SurfSplendor yea, I dont know how hard it is to broadcast but I do know I have stopped following wsl almost completely and would check out some smaller contest happily
@SurfSplendor I'll give you some hints. We went to high school together for like a year or 2 and I ran into you at trestles randomly one time. I also remember your dad took us to old mans once. We were pretty good friends for a while 😂😂
Album’s BomDia and Lovemachine’s Satilite models are both narrow boards but keep plenty of volume through the straight rail lines and pushing foam out wide. I think the pickle forks would be similar in that they still pack a decent amount of foam into a narrow package. I am keen to ride a pickle fork but living in Australia makes it way too costly.
@@calebsandercock8538 I think for himself he’s always trying to push the limit on how little foam he can ride. Even mine which is totally reasonable on paper, is pretty refined. I think that’s the intention with the design.
On the style of surfing topic, I think you are trying to separate new school and old school. I think the best surfers need to have both of them. A good combination of power surfing and innovation in the air. Old school, on rail surfing will never go out of style. Surfing is on the wave, the airs are a bonus. By the way, I think Dane Reynolds is up there in the best surfing done on a Burch pickle fork.

One would imagine they start popping up over there
