Remarkable that it did survive impact from a 40-mile drop. Awesome.
Agreed, somehow it stayed afloat for four days too.
Gemini seems to have the most dedicated fans amongst the early manned programs. A cool note is Gunter Wendt's signature on the countdown log.
I seem to remember in the dim recesses of this old gray matter, that a Titan II remnant was on tour sometime in the mid-1960s. It was very similar to this artifact except that the open end had been "partially closed" by ocean impact. I would have seen it at Wright-Patterson AFB, most probably at the Air Force Museum.
