This is crazy. Witnessing the largest rocket to ever take of and to be caught while landing. 10:42, anyone else is wondering what that sphere like object that was checking out the booster on the way in? Great video!
Very likely the hot stage ring that protects booster top end components from Ship's engines when they light up. It's discarded after booster sep from ship (saves weight for landing).
Super Heavy booster is almost twice the mass of Saturn V's S-1C (first stage) booster. So SpaceX just caught a rocket nearly twice the size of S-1C out of thin air. I saw it live, but I'm still struggling to process what I saw! It's a genuine giant leap.

It literally is. It's made of shuttle parts made from the late 70s to early 80s. I love SLS and think its a cool rocket, but it has no place in the evolving space industry.
Well, basically it is. The SLS / Boeing Starliner combo are really just Apollo on steroids with more modern components and computers etc. Same concept, drop the billion dollar booster into the ocean and bring back the capsule only. It's obsolete - the Stainless Steel Starship is the future.
Clicking on this video, not caring too much about this stuff I was just clicking on it for something to watch as it was recommended. When I tell you when that rocket landed, I’m genuinely awestruck. That is actually so insane I can not believe it.
Super Heavy is somewhere around 220 tons dry without the hot stage ring, and probably had 20-30 tons of propellant left in the tanks, so it definitely was not 500 tons. Also, when the booster reaches it's highest boostback velocity at about 26 kilometers altitude, it was doing 4400 km/h, which is a little over Mach 4 at that altitude. Then, when the engines fire to cancel out the booster's energy for the catch, it's doing Mach 1, and decelerates all the way down to 2 km/h by the time the chopsticks make contact.

most of tesla factory management is done by chinese. when musk was building the system himself by sleeping at the factory, it was underperforming. it wasn't until his move in China as well as hiring ex-ford consultant on steamlining production, did Tesla manufacturing started improving rapidly. likewise, he hired alot of people who are disillusion by the "launch alliances" to build spaceX, who had the passion but not a boss who support them until musk hired them. the real job of a great CEO is not to figure out how to do it, but to hire the best people. people tend to credit him for entirely wrong thing.

Obviously no ship is coming back to the launch site in less than at least one full orbit; When the booster separates and returns, the ship is still busy reaching its destination and has work to do. It's still unclear when they intend to start landing ships properly, since they would need to overfly populated parts of the U.S. to descend into Starbase or KSC. For Artemis, rapid reuse of the upper stages might not be a priority?

What an amazing thing to witness. I remember as a kid (67yrs old now) and playing with spring launched plastic rockets and catapult launched rockets, and now to sit back and watch this is incredible. Thank you for this and your amazing enthusiasm.
I’m 53 and grew up watching the space shuttle take off and land. I never in my life would’ve thought this was possible.
SpaceX making history.
We could have had this years ago with proper NASA funding. Instead, Republicans cut and cut and cut
@@Ahov Two days ago, an 88m USD SpaceX Dragon capsule brought back three astronauts and a cosmonaut because NASA+Boeing f'ed up their 4 billion dollar one.
That was the reality check.
Now comes the slap: Go re-dye your hair, but make sure you don't ingest any of that green crap, makes your braincells die faster.
Glad you enjoyed it, James. The precision Starship splashdown was also a great highlight. Next up, let's see SpaceX fix that heat shield problem around the fins, especially the front ones, and let's see it launch a big payload into orbit successfully.
Amazing to watch!
Great job Space X for the pioneering job in the space sector and congratulations USA! Hope ISRO too catches up soon.
"SpaceX Catches 500 tonnes moving at 3x the speed of sound"
I think they slowed it down a little first there Randy!
...and it's 200 tons, not 500. I don't know why you settled on 3x. The velocity was there for all the World to see. Why not say "...from 4,000 KPH+", or "... from 2 mph"?. It clearly broke sub-sonic at about 2,500ft.
It's a stunning accomplish. Fix the headline. Please.
At what speed did Blue Origin or Boeing catch their booster?
@@GtTrader67what does that have to do with anything? The headline is a bit misleading imo. It is like saying spacex catches 5000 ton booster moving at 0mph. At one point the booster was 5000 tons and static, but we can all agree that would be misleading as balls.
@@GtTrader67 Neither have caught any boosters. They are incapable.
@@qwerty112311 at what point in time did you weigh the booster? Just say you are a hater and be done with it
Anyone who is an engineer or technician, scientist, carpenter mechanic, soldier etc., any smart hard working person I salute you guys I’m very proud of you all God blesses America 🇺🇸
New sub. You spoke on the impact of being alive at this time. I remember the moon landing. I was 9 and loved science fiction stories. Here I was watching those hero's do great things. I knew that "2001: A Space Odyssey" was prophesy. I watched the Voyager's begin their unbelievable journey (NASA could actually build s..tuff then). Elon Musk is bringing little boys and girls dreams and the magic back to space. I may be old now, but I still cherish those dreams.
thanks for sharing your thoughts as it happens.Helps those of us who might get goose bumps when they watch but it seems like magic lol.
INSANE!!! GO SPACEX!!!!!!!! MARS OR BUST BABY!!!!
It is nearly unbelievable what SpaceX has accomplished. They come up with crazy ideas and then make them work somehow.
they are willing to risk failure -- what the expression "All In" means.
Everyone: This is going into the history books.
Me: Do a backflip!
I'm so proud of SpaceX and all the genius minds that have managed such success. ❤❤❤
I'm literally watching clips and reactions of this the entire day, I can 100% guaranteed you I could only find 2 kinds of reaction to what just happened: 1-Return to primal instincts and scream like you want to scare a predator. 2- Absolutely speechless.
I did both! 😊 Amazing feat!
I'm so glad to be alive to witness History!
SpaceX just caught a 22 story speeding skyscraper.Well done to all the employees of SpaceX,who were hired for their skill, knowledge and brains.Props to you all
I get goosebumps and teary every single time I watch this. It's unbelievable how amazing Elon and SpaceX is.
first time / subscribed first 10 second , you have got it what ever it is. well done..

At 9 meters diameter I can't wait to see the crew area when they are eventually ready to send people up in this ship, it will be truly amazing. This is one of the few inspiring, uplifting things happening in the world today.
@DrKatz-y2b inside starship
@DrKatz-y2b inside starship
The ship got jealous of the booster and all the attention it's getting, and decided to do a victory lap by exploding.
rage-quit
The thing i like most about watching live watches on Everyday Astronaut is his reactions and excitement/passion he has during every launch
I was at launch 1 and 4. What you’re seeing is nothing compared to what you feel! Every one of those little crackles pulsate through your entire body! Starbase should be the number 1 place for everyone to experience. The beach is beautiful and the ship is so close you feel like you can touch it. I will not miss launch 6
CHEERS brother from the other side of the ocean. These are interesting times. We are at a precipice in evolution. We either make it or break it during these times. For once in a long time I am excited to be alive. I was here to witness this.
Go! Go! Humanity! To the skies and back!
loving the excitment youhave for this. they swing the booster out of the way and put it in one of the pads. by the time the payload part has done its job the booster will be off the pad.
Absolutely awe inspiring and surreal. Wow.
Mr. Cooke you're absolutely right! It's great to witness this feat!
that booster alone is equivalent to 20+ storey building.
it's like the GATE anime.. With SpaceX being modern militaries and all other Space companies being Medieval kingdoms
lol, true, the kindoms getting blown to bits with this one
They caught a booster‼️👍👍☺️☺️
Do you know how long they have to wait to before they can approach the super heavy booster again?
and what people dont realise is that this is really going to make a difference to so many peoples lives: particularly those without jobs, with cancer, starving, no clean water, no education....its really inspiring to see so much going on to save humanity. Bless Space X.
MIND. BOGGLED.
My mind is BLOWN!
The SLS looks like a relic from the past.
The price to launch even more so, 1 BILLION+ compared to under 100 million for this rocket.
It literally is. It's made of shuttle parts made from the late 70s to early 80s. I love SLS and think its a cool rocket, but it has no place in the evolving space industry.
Boeing and NASA look like a scam now😂😂
@@nn98b64 4billion and a launch cadence of like 4 years
Well, basically it is. The SLS / Boeing Starliner combo are really just Apollo on steroids with more modern components and computers etc. Same concept, drop the billion dollar booster into the ocean and bring back the capsule only. It's obsolete - the Stainless Steel Starship is the future.
Wow what a beautiful cartoon, i think i even saw Santa Claus flying behind it😂
Clicking on this video, not caring too much about this stuff I was just clicking on it for something to watch as it was recommended. When I tell you when that rocket landed, I’m genuinely awestruck. That is actually so insane I can not believe it.
That was a cartoon
Super Heavy is somewhere around 220 tons dry without the hot stage ring, and probably had 20-30 tons of propellant left in the tanks, so it definitely was not 500 tons. Also, when the booster reaches it's highest boostback velocity at about 26 kilometers altitude, it was doing 4400 km/h, which is a little over Mach 4 at that altitude. Then, when the engines fire to cancel out the booster's energy for the catch, it's doing Mach 1, and decelerates all the way down to 2 km/h by the time the chopsticks make contact.
I CANT BELIEVE THEY COUGHT A 1KM LONG BOOSTER WEIGHING 500 TONS AND TRAVELLING AT 50 000 KM/HR, THIS IS SO AMMAZING.
Presenting informations straight from anus as the facts is annoying AF.
Thank you for that. It needed to be said. This isn't a fete that needs to be hyped. It's mind-blowing just as it is.
Thank you so much for sharing, love you enthusiasm.
Remember when Elon said- “building an awesome electric car is hard, but building a factory that builds electric cars is incredibly difficult. He’s taken all he learned about manufacturing (which is an insane amount of knowledge and wisdom), and applied it to manufacturing Space Flight. This milestone today is big, really big, but his factory which churns out spaceships bigger and more powerful than Saturn 5 rockets, this is beyond words cutting edge what humanity can do and so much better than the competition. Wow. Just WOW!
most of tesla factory management is done by chinese. when musk was building the system himself by sleeping at the factory, it was underperforming. it wasn't until his move in China as well as hiring ex-ford consultant on steamlining production, did Tesla manufacturing started improving rapidly. likewise, he hired alot of people who are disillusion by the "launch alliances" to build spaceX, who had the passion but not a boss who support them until musk hired them. the real job of a great CEO is not to figure out how to do it, but to hire the best people. people tend to credit him for entirely wrong thing.
@@lagrangewei I hope he goes to the Japanese as he learns more about the Chinese long range goals (In 1948, when I was born, NO ONE would have predicted that switch. Just like 99.99999999% of the world believed the mood would always be beyond our reach.)

You're commentary made this really interesting.
They don’t need to catch the starship immediately after the booster. It can orbit until the booster is cleared from the chop sticks.
what do you think tower 2 is for?
@@stephenmiller2544 tower two is just that tower two, their will be many more towers to come as after today the whole world changed
@@limeylit i think you missed my point.
