They need to grow up and learn that throughout game history the wider industry has catered to completely different groups of people as the mass audience increases. The games the people want are still being made, they're just not the majority anymore. From the 80s-90s it was mostly platformers and arcade games for people considered nerds or children. The mid to late 2000s-2010s was the era of bland military shooters for the new dude bro demographic. Now so many different people from different walks of life enjoy playing games. The games people want are out there. Go find them, and play them. Look on steam, the digital stores, online forums, look for youtubers who cover specific genres or niches. Gamers need to stop letting terminally upset grifters keep reaffirming their confirmation bias. It limits individual thought and critical thinking. Try expanding tastes in the genres they play. Don't keep giving money to corporations that apparently hate you and don't make the games you want to see and support the publishers and developers that do. It sucks being narrow-minded and locked into one type of game or genre or subgenre. We miss out on so many great games from the past and new modern classics. I miss out on rougelite fps games because I foolishly still believe that rougelites as a genre are fundamentally designed to waste the players time to achieve long term progression. In fact, there are probably too many games that most people will never be able to play them all in their lifetime. Hate Andy, but I do have to come to Andy's defence on one point. The uglification of women is an actual thing. Look at Dragon Age (yes, I know you dont play it, but hear me out). Even in the first one, Origins, they were beautiful. Now, with Veilguard, sure, they look pretty at times, but Origins characters looked amazing. And dont get me started on how they butchered the looks of the Qunari (the race with horns on their heads). Another example is Horizon Zero Dawn. Aloy looked pretty in the first game, but the new face looked...meh, decent, in the sequel. Lets take Concord. Almost every single character looked horrible, with only a few looking decent or cute. But look at the game it was trying to compete against. Overwatch. Forget Ocerwatch 2's graphical upgrade, the original Overwatch. Every single women looked beautiful, even the buff ones. Even the men looked amazing, yes, even the fat belly, chain throwing maniac. Other than that, great dunk on that grifter.
to be fair, beauty is subjective. I don't find these new designs you brought up (well other than concord, but every design in that game is bad) as good examples of "ugly-ification". they all look just average at worst. hell, isn't horizon taking place in a fuckin apocalypse? If you put a women's magazine model next to an obese women, the vast majority of people will say that the model is objectively more beautiful. A person's tastes is subjective, but beauty itself is objective. If you put two equally beautiful models next to each other, that's when a person's taste will determine their opinion, but they'd say that both were beautiful, but they prefer x or y. The Aloy case only works if she had the sequels face model in the first game. At least then your argument would work. But, when you make a character pretty, then, in the sequel, which doesn't even take place a year later, you make less pretty, it comes across as making the character intentionally ugly.

That's absurd, those themes were present in war games and are still present in war/military games. Those themes weren't in most games prior to the mid 2000s simply because most genres don't require those themes. Most games people loved playing back in the day that weren't call of duty either didn't have these themes at all or were made by Japanese studios.
