Thank you sooooo much. I just got my Janome in December. I'm used to a Babylock, which you're not supposed to oil at all, so very happy to have such a nice, detailed, easy to follow video!!
Thank goodness I had this video to walk me though the oiling process! I barely got through the first couple of steps in the manual before I started verbalizing my frustrations. I've never had a machine that needed so much oiling by the user, usually a wick or two and that's it - and the tiny screw (#3 step on "Oil the lower shaft supporter(front)? Janome should be ashamed for that one. I had to take the bottom plate off to find the lost screw and then I realized you really don't need to take that screw off! There is access from the bottom and will use that in the future. Your video was accessed several times for clarification as I was going through - your process made it look painless. :)
just got this Janome Memory Craft 550E today second hand will be sure to watch this video step by step for the first few times thanks for doing this video it will save so much hassle
I’ve been struggling with following the manuals instructions but after watching this I’ve just completed my first clean and oil. Many thanks for your comprehensive video. I’m looking forward to more videos so I’ve just subscribed to your channel.
Honestly, only when I feel that there are glitches in the sewing. So I clean it and oil it as I’m sure there’s got to be dirt somewhere as we’re dealing with fabric and thread 😊.
I oiled my machine and then saw this video. It's so great. I do notice that more oil was applied here than what I used. My machine embroiders beautifully however the needle bar groans when it slows. It doesn't "groan" when it's embroidering. Does this groan mean I didn't apply enough oil on the needle bar?
Could be.. i’m not sure about the ‘groan’ because machines always have sounds when you use them.. as long as it embroiders well with no tension problems or other problems, i think that’s fine.
Thank you for watching.. hope you subscribed to our channel. Anything else you want us to demonstrate just put in the comment section and we’ll try to come up with a segment of it.👍🏼
@@thecreativemiddlescent yes I subscribed. After applying a bit more oil to the top part of the machine it made all the difference. I would like to comment on one thing about this machine. A tiny history...I started machine embroidery in 2005 with a Janome Memocraft 950....a dinosaur now....when I first began using the 500E, which is about a month ago, I loved the thread cutting feature for the first few days. I was getting continuous thread breakage and threading the upper thread to no avail and then realized it was the bobbin thread breaking. I realized when the thread cutting was taking place while embroidering it occurred to me that when the bobbin was cut, it was not "picking up" the bobbin upon continuation. This constant removal of the hoop, fixing the bobbin breakage, replacing the hoop was adding way to much time to the process. I deactivated the thread cutting feature and I haven't had one thread breakage since and I've had this machine going 4 to 6 hours a day since. Cutting the jump threads takes far less time than the hoop removal. Has anyone else had this problem with the 500E? Sorry for the length of this post!
@@ChrisSharpe-kd5bj thanks for hour reply. I have also found that my machine sometimes doesn’t pick up after a thread cut. I have found that if i press the start key again it will start to sew, and most times. Your comment seems very sensible and i will certainly experiment with it in my future projects.
Great video, after watching several times i was confident in oiling and cleaning my machine. Could you tell me the brand or what type of lubricant you applied to the white cog areas? Is this a silicone? Thank you
Thank you for watching. I think we’ve made a segment on thread breakage. Did you check our embroidery playlist? You can also try using a different brand of thread.
This was so unbelievably helpful, thanks so much!!

How often should the machine be oil
It depends on how much you use it.. for me, once it plays up a bit i see it as a sign that the machine needs cleaning… so usually, once a month.
My Janome is leaking some sort of yellow liquid and I can’t find anything online.
Have you oiled it recently?
I have a problem do you have an email or account in social media so i can text you to solve it?
Sure you can message me in facebook messenger, it’s Chari Lilley’s Art
Thank you!!
