“Stevie Nicks sounds like a young girl and an old woman at the same time” I have never heard a more accurate description. Lex I love how you emotionally connect with music
Stevie wrote this song about her breakup with the lead guitarist Lindsay Buckingham. The whole album is about their breakup and the breakup of Christine and the bass player. Each band member wrote songs on this album and they are ALL heartfelt and true emotions.
@@matthewmolkentin6230 , actually Peter Green created/fromed the band and got Mick to join him. This is one of those songs that can take you back to a point in time. A minute into this song, I'm 14 and it's the summer of '77. It's funny how music has that power.
Rumours commented Fleetwood Mac as one of the greatest rock bands. Great album, great band, great song. 1977, junior high, lots of great music. Much love from California.
Everything that everyone says on here about Stevie Nicks' genius is absolutely right and correct and deservedly so. But as a drummer, I feel the need to point out that Mick Fleetwood delivers what I would consider to be as close to the perfect drum track as possible. Every little beat, fill and cymbal crash fits in the right spot. If I was teaching someone how to play drums, I would show them the basic beats and fills, and then make them listen to and play along with Dreams.
drummer here as well, 100% agree. I have always admired Mick Fleedwood - not just this song - so many of his timing, and accents are so well executed, and delivered. I remember seeing them live circa 95 when they reunited and he got out of his drum rig put on a digital drum machine body suit (hands, feet, knees, head etc were all drum pieces to hit) and played a drum solo with his body. That was amazing!
The Rumours album is without a doubt a top 10 all time greatest albums ever made. Back in the day you know you can throw on the Rumours record on and you wouldn't have to worry about skipping a song.
John McVee (bass) and Mic Fleetwood (drums) laid down one of the grooviest rhythms ever recorded in this song. The vocals carry the harmony and the lead guitar just ads a little ambiance.
Stevie wrote the song for Rumors, when her and Lindsey Buckingham were breaking up. This is definitely not a hippie love song. Of course Lindsey wrote "Go your own Way" in response to this song.
I've always admired the diversity of this group. Different vocals, styles, beats, songs/writers and then I hear that ever present bass and drums!! All so good too!! ❤👍🏽
Amazing they stayed together with everything that was always going on.. I've had band members leave, threaten to, over things like the way their monitors were set up.. just MOVE the damn thing ! Lol
This song came out in the 70s.. it was a major hit back then. The last time this song went high in the charts was 2020… let that sink in. A song that was released in the 70s still climbs the charts in modern times.
I personally rank Fleetwood Mac as one of the top 5 bands of all time. Every member of that group was incredibly talented and did a lot after the band went their separate ways.
Stevie Nicks wrote this song. She wrote a lot of Fleetwood Mac's song. She was a great songwriter. And, the songs were so her. You can feel stevie in the songs. A few of the songs she wrote were - The Edge of Seventeen, Rhiannon, Dreams and Gypsy plus many more.
No one can touch her voice. I have been in love with Stevie Nicks since I was 9 years old. The first record album I ever purchased with my own money was Rumors. Loved it then and equally as much now. The entire album, start to finish is amazing. Read up on the band, it was crazy but they were amazing.
Just loved Stevie Nicks voice forever!!! She's sensational & ofcourse the brilliant band too! I was born in 1960 so really got to know Fleetwood Mac & adored them at the time. Just love your comments too!! 💝💝
Lex nailed it! She sounds like a little girl and an old woman at the same time. Fleetwood Mac was a unique convergence of very talented and gifted musicians. It’s more than just important to note in this day and age of digital samples and beats predefined in computers that EVERY SINGLE NOTE was the original creation of the artist’s own mind and that all of it was played by hand in the studio and for live performance. As much as anything, that’s what’s missing today. Joe Walsh said it best. 5 producers in 3 cities passed a file back and forth for a week. No one ever saw the others face to face and NO ONE ACTUALLY PLAYED ANY MUSIC. Think about it. It matters.
No that’s not classic Fleetwood Mac. Classic Peter Green Fleetwood Mac. When they were playing the Blues. The original Black Magic woman and the Chicago sessions.✌️
@@irresistablegraceinchrist6690 yep, it's an opinion. I only said it was a classic because it is a very well known song as well as over 40 years old. Stating the obvious, lol.
Nothing takes me back to 1978 more than listening to this song. All of the other music from that time has aged with me, but this song is still there in my early adulthood - and when I listen to this song, so am I.
A quick note: Fleetwood Mac was really a '70's group, even though they were first formed in '67. Their big hits were in the 70's ("Dreams" came out in '77).
Remember Fleetwood Mac band members all survived the sixties and reached maturity in the seventies. That’s how they were able to write and perform such moving music.
Spot on the way Lex describes Stevie Nicks' voice. The old woman/young girl vibe. It's witchy. There is never any doubt when she is on the mic. Her voice is so distinctive.
The reason it was so heartfelt was because a lot of their songs on this album were about the two couples’ tumultuous relationships. Up and down, their passion was represented, like you said. Lex, you always get it - in how I feel are the important ways. Good job, you guys.
So many great Fleetwood Mac songs... "You Make Loving Fun", "Sara", "Hold Me", "Seven Wonders", "Little Lies", "You Make Loving Fun"... Ya'll are just scratching the surface.
This whole album is so good. I remember vividly when it came out. My first concert. I was 12. I've seen them 7 times. Every time they get better. Every one of the members are very talented.
Another two greats that showcase Stevie's angelic vocals are "Sara" from their 1979 Tusk release, and "Silver Springs"(any studio version, and there are a few).
This album was so huge when it came out in the mid-'70s. It was ubiquitous. Everybody who was "of age" at that time had it. You'd hear it played at every party you went to (with everybody singing along to every word of every song), and several songs from it got airplay on the radio. The album was about breakups; the couples in this band were breaking up and recombining. Lindsey Buckingham & Stevie Nicks had done an album (entitled "Buckingham/Nicks") that had been a little bit successful in an underground sort of way. Fleetwood Mac had already been successful for several years with other people, most notably Bob Welch (their music from his era is among my favorite FM music; "Bare Trees", "Mystery to Me" and "Heroes are Hard to Find" all being excellent albums). But when the two merged, this album was the result. And it was iconic.
Beautiful song from a beautiful album, Rumours. The "rumours" mentioned in the title referred to the songs which were about the band's relationships with each other - particularly Stevie Nicks and her then partner, Lindsay Buckingham - who were in the process of splitting up.
The reason they sound like you described, Lex, is more than likely due to the turmoil that wracked the band throughout their years together. They were basically passing each other around like an appetizer at a roadside steakhouse and it led to a lot of... what's the word I'm looking for? ...maybe disdain for each other. What always amazes me about the band is how they were even able to function together for as long as they did.
she right. She is right.......Stevie's voice does sound like an young woman and old woman mixed....but the whole band sounds like that which makes the band relevant for all ages including this one in the 21st century, and last year "Rumors" which has "Dreams" on it was No. 8 on the Billboard charts.....and is still in the top 30. People of all generations just love this album because like Lex says...it is at the crossroads of Life. Lex is right!!! Great insight!!! Great reaction!!!
Classic. Nice choice. My childhood. Mom was a singer and music was always playing. Music is so emotional. It's the same when I paint. Brings you into focus
I feel like this song is in my DNA. I got the Rumors album for my 12th birthday and listened to it endlessly. Us older folks remember getting a vinyl LP and playing it on the record player for hours in our bedrooms. Some albums came with liner notes and little snippets about the band. Fleetwood Mac is basically the soundtrack of my adolescence.
A very minimalist background to that sultry but sweet voice of Stevie. Wonderfully conceived and played by the band and of course the lovely lady Nicks.
I can really appreciate your channel, especially with your comments of the songs from the 70s. I came of age in the 1970s and most of these songs bring back certain memories and have different meanings for me. It's good to hear your opinions of these songs that I grew up with, and how they are understood to the younger generation. 🙂
These songs are from the heart. That's the difference between artists like Fleetwood Mac and today's performers. The art has been lost to the money-grab.
Lex you are so right on about her voice. I've been listening to Stevie for 40 years and that never occurred to me. Thanks for your analogy. Brad never let her get away.
I hope you'll do some Fleetwood Mac songs with Christine McVie singing lead. She was their songwriter and a great singer in her own right. She also held the group together through all their relationship crises. Say You Love Me, Over My Head, and You Make Lovin' Fun were all huge hits for the group.
Stevie is singing about her breakup with Lindsey Buckingham, the guitar player for Fleetwood Mac who is playing on this song and several other songs each wrote about about their breakup, yet they still stood on stage together as these sad songs were played. some of their biggest hits. Their hit song Gold Dist Woman song about their breakup over her Cocaine addiction, begins with the lyrics Dig your grave with a silver spoon...yet they stand together on the same stage as she sings it and Lindsey plays guitar. amazing!
I agree about how it SOUNDS... it's actually the mid to late 70s, but there's a certain warmth that comes through that you just don't get from today's music. It feels like a warm hug on a rainy day. Fleetwood Mac is one of the greatest bands ever, no cap.
You really need to watch a 'live' performance of this. The looks Stevie and Lindsay were giving each other during their performance spoke more than the lyrics of the song.
Lex had it right. People transitioning from adolescent 20s into 30 somethings. The Album - Rumours was recorded when the whole band were in total emotional meltdown. Affairs with one another, marital breakdown, out and out mental warfare- and what came out of it was one of the best albums of all time. Back in 75 I was going through a breakup and I hated this album, because it was my ex's current favourite. Years later I can appreciate it in it's entirety. [ps G/f and I are now friends again]
I love how Brad just gets into it and Lex is just a pure music lover. She picks out a lot of stuff on the first listen that don't catch after 20 years This is my favorite reaction channel now. Keep it coming.
You have to see Fleetwood Mac live singing Rhiannon. On the midnight special I believe. Stevie goes crazy! You will see how amazing this band is!!!!!✌❤
YES! Took my son to a Fleetwood Mac concert when he was around 13; he was bored. He’s 29 now, and it’s his go-to group when he’s relaxing or tinkering; the music appeals across the generations. Please react to “The Chain” if you haven’t already.
Try and be in a bad mood listening to this song… it’s impossible lol I ❤️ this so much. I jam it at work when I’m stressed - it cleanses me of all negativity instantly The lyrics are on a whole another level. Thx for doing this classic jam!!!
Fleetwood Mac had two incarnations the first back in '67 was the Peter Green version take a listen to original epics 'Green Manalishi', 'Black Magic Woman', 'Man of the World'' 'Albatross'. From '75 the Mac became the Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham version. All members of the band were really good musicians and writers however the the star💫of this band is undoubtedly the Poetess, Songstress, Rock Goddess Stevie. My request for you guys, Sisters of the Moon, FM Mirage tour Live 1982 react to Stevie perform the greatest Moment in Female rock ever💥💥😯
What a brilliant description of Stevie Nicks voice. You two have bloomed together on this musical journey. Lovely to catch glimpses of it here over this algorithmic rich TH-cam signal. Bravo!
Stevie said that it only took her about 15 minutes to write the song, she said she wrote the song on Sly Stone's big bed in the center of his recording room at the famous Record Plant recording studio in Sausalito California. Fleetwood Mac was also recording there recording their Rumours album. I think Stevie said that she had went to Sly's room because she was pissed off at Lindsay at the time and wanted to be alone to write. Her and Lindsay were definitely pissed off at each other a lot at that time lol so was Christine and John, Christine said that they didn't even talk at all unless they absolutely had to. I've watched pretty much every documentary there is about Fleetwood Mac, they're such a great band and have such a fascinating story!!
This album is the low key soundtrack of my early childhood memories, just because this was the album my mom would put on in the early 80s. Fleetwood Mac was amazing and this song is so classic.
Lex, that was a perfect description of Stevie's voice. Old and young. Years ago, I was in line at a food court and Mick Fleetwood was in line in front of me. They had played a show in town earlier that day and were otw to another. Talked to him awhile. Really nice fella. No one else had any idea who he was.
1974 is when Lindsay Buckinham & Stevie Nicks Started With Fleetwood Mac. I was 4 going on 5. Fleetwood Mac was out years before Buckinham & Nicks started camping around.
This band began in the 60s as more of a blues sound. The lead singer was the great Peter Green. They picked up Lindsey Buckingham and his girlfriend Stevie Nicks in the 70s and released Rumours, one of the greatest albums in history. Every track is a hit. The story behind that album has its own documentary. The other female vocalist, Christine McVeigh, has a wonderful voice as well.
lex. you come up with a statement that all of us watching when we grew up hearing these bands never even thought of. amazing instincts into music and voice!

Thank you, thank you! This is my favorite song ever. I have seen Fleetwood Mac in concert 4 times.
"Dreams" is one of my favorite songs by Fleetwood Mac. I love your reaction videos!!!
Bravo!
Stevie has one of the greatest voices of all time. So beautiful
Stevie is one of the best vocalists ever. I love Fleetwood Mac and also her solo material.
well unfornunately not anymore - she really fucked up her voice. Hearing them live a couple of years ago was actually embarrasing.
Such a beautiful song. Rain washing you clean is the sadness crying in the rain...most sad.
Loved the Mac sound in the 70's and 80's. Rumors is still an all-time classic album
I’ve been requesting this one for a while. Bummed I missed the live reaction. Fabulous song!
Excellent choice! This whole album is flawless.
You make loving fun is a must!
These are some of the most beautiful lyrics ever. Sad and beautiful.
Stevie's voice ALWAYS gives me goosebumps.
lex. you come up with a statement that all of us watching when we grew up hearing these bands never even thought of. amazing instincts into music and voice!
