The Bane 7 is what you bring when you want to tell someone that you don't want to be friends anymore but can't find the right words. On an unrelated note, what's Thom up to this weekend? Want to get in a game before Christmas?
I feel like the motto of the Bane 7 is: there's no kill like overkill. The HAGs make the Bane 7 not only extremely capable of dealing with other Mechs, but it can also easily take care of aircraft, tanks, and infantry. This makes it quite useful in dealing with the sort of combined arms threats that are common on Dark Age and ilClan era battlefields. As long as it doesn't get head-capped or knocked out by a lucky TAC it should do well, but it is a high risk, high reward Mech putting a large percentage of your BV into a single Mech. About the only thing that might give the Bane 7 some trouble is an Assault Mech with Ballistic Reinforced Armor to mitigate the damage from the HAGs, like the AS8-K or MAD-8K. The Bane 3 has 8 LRM15s, so it can literally launch a ton of ammo at an opponent with every LRM salvo.
Wowza! Poor Dan, but I do want to watch that engagement. And, let Dan find it on guard duty with its twin... Hoot! ;-) Happy Holidays Aaron! Thanks again for the great content. Especially these new ears, I have little to no idea about them, so very entertaining & educational.
Defensive id want to see a couple ams to prevent people from bringing the equivalent to archer spam to counter it. Its hard to shoot things when there is hard cover and you are at a deficit in mobility.
Ok ive thought about it , take like 4 Nisos WiGes (will be close on BV with 3/4 pilots) swarm the left side give it the plasma and SRM 6s and hope for a through armour critical on the HAG ammo , although even with the 2 engine crits and removing a HAG/40 its still going make a pair of Nisos regret their life decisions if the +5 dont work
I am currently doing a Hinterlands campaign where I'm playing Jiyi Christu's Falcons and I have a Kraken 7 in my star and it is routinely the best member of the squad. It makes my forces basically immune to aerospace attacks. I've been using campaign ops and SPAs which made me give the pilot Sandblaster which makes it routinely hit with 32-40 per HAG and it just eats through ppl. I actually got to a point where I wanted to end my campaign (the Lyrans come calling with a RCT) and the Kraken has made it through 2 full engagements vs 1.2xBV units netting 7 kills and winning both
If you are flabergasted by the Bane 7, i would love to see you run the Bane 3 through the battlytics. That is assuming the math model takes into account ammo slots being consumed each turn. If not then the defensive analysis could likely show higher than factual ammo hits. The Bane 3 is a monstrosity of damage dealing. 76 average alpha each turn (and on an average of sixteen hit locations), from 21" down to 1", for 16 turns. It fires a literal ton (120) of LRMs each turn.
Hah! The defensive sim is purely defensive - too many “what ifs” around who shot what when on the target side… you never know when that through armor crit will hit on turn 1 😆
@@DeathfromAboveWargaming I could totally see that. Also I love your battletech videos, great stuff, and your battylitics format and math Sim model is very well put together, I've been devouring these recently. Thanks!

This mech, especially at gunnery 2 is seeing all your eggs in one basket. The issue is the through armors, and head hots happen, and bringing one of these is crossing our fingers your opponent can't high roll. Excellent video. I'm interested in how the Bane 3 ( 8XLRM-15) variant would do. It's almost 800 BV less. As for the 7- there comes a point at which you have to seriously consider whether or not a unit is worth it's cost. Unless it's a HUGE battle it's over that limit IMHO. Yes it's great at killing other mechs but in an overall battle it has no other utility. It lacks the speed to get anywhere and uses up a LOT of BV in a single location. It almost seems to define the attitude that is why the Clans got their buts kicked in the original invasion in the first place.
Great insight - not to mention all the eggs in one basket kind of thing. A lucky gauss headshot knocking out 70% of your BV is a bad day haha. I like to have more balanced forces - so agree with you. Unless its a HUGE battle, it seems impractical.
This is true, but there is also the chance that it just Ala-ka-blam's anything that comes into range with a LPL and dual HAG 40's. Go ahead, send in 3 wolverines.
Would have been more curious to see the Bane 1 and the wysiwyg ilClan version with the protomech ACs compared. Big numbers are fun, but those two are travesties of Clan assaults.

Disgusting. I never really got into the post FedCom Civil War. My groups got the Total Warfare book and just stuck to the civil war era or before. I was fine with this, in part, because the new technologies were so rarely improvements. I recall long math-heavy debates on how light PPCs, MMLs, etc. were just occupying unique niches, rather than supplanting any of the older weapons. It did not seem fun to endlessly agonize over whether I wanted to do 5 damage more efficiently at close range or mid-range. Well. I think I missed a trick with the HAGs. They have the odd (more in that no other weapon has the rule) cluster penalty in the long bracket (and bonus in short)...but who cares? a 5 results in as many hits as a 7! Sure, the expected damage takes a hit. But not by nearly as much as would happen if the plateau did not extend that far. If I ever play in the later eras I will need to bring some of these to the party.
The HAG is my favorite weapon in Battletech due to the fan game MW:LL (it's just a giant machine gun with a great sound effect). I would field this monstrosity, mostly as a statement but i also think this would make a great big baddie at the end of a battletech TTRPG campaign, notes are being taken.
18:27 i know the Awesome is well err awesome and you use it for the survivability test yes ? Does it have too much peircing and no crit seeking ? Because Clanners go down to crits big time , line those couple lucky gyro hits really hurt Clanners with their lesser numbers , same with lucky ammo hits in side torsos from the side or from floating criticals ......... Even this monstrosity looks less scary starting on 10 heat and sans the weapons on one side , hell a lucky hit on that Ammo in the right torso its basically a 4000-5000 possibly more BV HAG/40 you could probably ignore from then on
As Gauss weapons HAG ammo doesn't explode, so all an ammo crit does is get rid of that bin of ammo. If you crit the HAGs they can explode, but between Clan CASE and them being in the arms all you really lose is the HAG and the arm. A big loss to be sure, but not fatal by any means.
@@NRSGuardian good point forgot that , still holds for other mechs with exploding ammo , was more a query if the model to get the rating might be a bit skewed
