Wow, thank you for this video Ness! Your instructions are clear and helpful. I’ve organized my design portfolio in a much more professional way and I feel so much more confident when pitching to clients. Thanks again for the great guidance!
I just combined five google slides and two google sheets into one place in airtable today… All thanks to this video! I have at least 200 patterns scattered all over the place and on various platforms and it was starting to get a little out of control 😅 Thank you so much for this information. It’s a game changer.
This video was the answer I needed in how to organize all of my art into something digestible for someone to view. I'm so excited to add all my art to my newly created database! Thanks Ness!
Hi Vanessa! I love this tutorial so much! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions about AirTable for Surface design. I'm following your tutorial now and have almost completed it. There is so much valuable information. So many things I never even knew about. it's crazy. I usually get hung up on the small technical things, but your clear explanations have made this program easier to digest. I am in love with this program now!
I'm so glad to hear your licensing catalogue creation is going well!! I also only discovered Airtable when I started surface design and completely fell in love with. Surface designers are onto something with this app!!!
This was really helpful! It brought so much clarity and order, having all the information in just 1 place it's definitely more productive! I have a question, do you have something like this to order the pitching process, I haven't started but I would like to start with the right foot! Thanks!
I have an Airtable base where I store all my company research. Whenever I find a company, I add the name and what products they make in there, then later I do some more research to add their website, contact, and any submission info they may have. When I'm ready to pitch, I usually pick a product category then send emails to all the companies I have for that category :)
Hi there! Thank you for this very informative video! I’m wondering what size are your image files (sell sheets)? What dpi would you use for your portfolio sheets?
I'm sure many people would give you different answers. There's no absolute right way, but mine are JPGs of around 1400x1750 pixels, at about 70-80% quality. I aim to get them under 500 KB whenever possible so they load quickly and can be attached to emails too.
Really great tutorial! Thanks so much for taking the time to share this with us. Is there any chance you would be willing to share the video you made walking those viewing your full portfolio on how to use it and filter views, etc? I'm wondering what you included in that and if you find that's necessary to include for people who have never seen this type of portfolio before?
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Kelly! The Airtable portfolio is quite simple to navigate even for first-timers, but just in case I wanted to summarize the main features. Some people really aren't tech-savvy after all! It's a very short, 2 min long video and I basically just point out the basics: the "view larger version" button, how to add a filter to look for what they want, and how they can download sell sheets by clicking into the records :)
😮 thank You so much ! This is so helpful for me. I am at a place where I can’t really spend on anything, I can’t even have a proper website yet. I was wondering how to present my work to be able to start pitching to AD and be taken a little bit seriously even if I am a complete beginner. This is a lifesaver. Thank You again 😊 I don’t know if you already did something like that but would you consider making a tutorial about you use Airtable to manage your art business? I tried to get into it but I just can’t seem to understand how Airtable works and how to use it properly. 😅 Thanks a lot for all the tips ❤
I'm glad you found it helpful! I have a productivity tips video in which I show the Airtable bases that I use :) You can watch that here: th-cam.com/video/zszbsr2HS2o/w-d-xo.html I also give several of my Airtable templates as bonuses in my Art Business Bootcamp course, but since you're not looking to spend anything at the moment this doesn't sound like a good solution for you.
Thanks Vanessa, I’ve created my first database. I seem to have a different view to you that doesn’t have have the row height and same share options. Can I ask if you are using the free version or do you have some additions? I’ve googled and can’t seem to find an answer.
Ah, I commented too soon. I’ve just logged into Airtable on my computer and now see the view you have. Was on my iPad and it has a view is different. Great lesson. Thank you.
@@izgamerfnf3414 I'm glad you figured it out! SO fast I didn't get to respond in time haha... Now that you mention it, when I use Airtable on my phone I don't have the same options or layout.
Hi Ness, I'm also new to surface design that's why this one is very helpful. Would you know how much is the storage capacity of Airtable? I have generated many designs but don't want to delete any of it yet. Thank you.
Airtable has no limit on database entries, but it does have a limit on the storage size for images. Make sure to resize the images you upload so they are under 1MB, and you should not run out of space!
Excellent video! I remember trying Airtable to keep track of pod products fulfilled from different manufacturers. I have 2 questions: 1-Is there a reason you chose to have your full gallery password protected? The client needs to get in touch with you and request the password? 2-I imagine this is a silly question, but the viewers can’t edit or mess with your table right? Is view only? Thank you!
Yay I'm glad you liked the tutorial! I do have a sample portfolio with about 20 designs, but I want to keep my complete catalogue of 120+ private so they can't be easily stolen or become "inspiration" for nefarious people! Thankfully, this is common in surface design so no art director is shocked or taken aback by this! When I pitch, I include my password. If someone finds my website by themselves and want to see the catalogue, there's a form on my website to request a password easily :) And no thankfully, they can't edit or mess with my table!!
@@ArtBusinesswithNess thank you so much for the answer! And now that you mention it, it does makes sense, being that with surface design the image itself is the product. Thank you again for the amazing content you create! ❤️
No Airtable has a free plan that is more than enough to cover all the features I use in the tutorials. Airtable only really charges for team options (where you have to collaborate with multiple team members on your databases) and other very advanced features.
I have an iPad and I saved all my sell sheets to my iCloud but how do I get all these files transferred to my windows laptop seamlessly so that I can import them to Airtable?? Any clue, thank you in advance.
You can log in to iCloud from a Windows laptop, as long as you know your Apple ID and password :) Just go to the iCoud website and you'll be able to download all your files from there once you log in!

Amazing tutorial! If you have a collection do you also catalogue the prints in that collection as individual SKUs as well?
Yes I create an entry in my table for each individual design (each with their own SKU) then another entry for the whole collection :)

Do you have the licensing information on the data base also?
In this base I only have availability status, and I have another base linked to this one that has all my licensing deals in it 🙂
Nice
Thanks for stopping by!
