    Good idea to place nut and bolts thru where the walls join each other 3 in each corner equally spaced . Also good idea to using some metal strapping to hold the roof down. Screws not enough for the good old wind . Looks nice and organised though .

      Thank you for the tips :) I'm hoping my decking screws are good enough for the job for the roof, so will monitor how it goes.

    Another cracking job. Some people would fill the sub-0base with gravel or sand to discourage rats etc - but this depends on where you live . . .and it's a biot late no anyway ;-)
    If you don't have a husband to hand you can always mounts a temporary vertical batten to the top corner of the side and clamp the back to that while you put the screws in.

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK

    A good job well done!
    The only thing I can add (and they both are minor) is when nailing trim on put the nails at an angle into the wood so the trim can't be pulled off without bending the nails. The other is Damp! If you are storing camping gear it is susceptible to mildew ... which is promoted by damp. The sun hitting the shed can heat it up a lot and then the air is cooled down at night giving condensation. A couple of air vents (one low one high) can be a good add on if this is the case.
    It wasn't clear on the video but couple of bolts fastening the back door to the top nd bottom would make it even more secure ;0)

  • @sharonmc5192

    Re your bike rack storage plans, we store our bikes on hooks vertically and it gives us a bit more space. Easier if you have more than 2 bikes, limited ceiling height and it's much more easy to access them. Just thought I'd mention :)

  • @DavidB773
    @DavidB773 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Looks great 👍 Maybe you could notch the shelves so that they sit further back? You could also try some moisture traps to reduce the condensation levels.

    • @TheCarpentersDaughterUK
      @TheCarpentersDaughterUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks :) I considered notches, but couldn't be bothered 😂 With them being quite large things, I don't think stuff will fall through the gap.

    It's a fine line between keeping the damp out and sealing it in. I think the best way is to use your experience, a touch of trial and error and your gut feeling. In other words, you live there so you'll know best.

    Good work. I'd recommend you put a couple of diagonal braces on the inside of the doors otherwise you will find they drop over time. Especially if you are hanging things on the doors. And you may want to replace the hinge screws with clutch head screws (that cant be unscrewed) to stop anyone removing the doors to get at your valuable camping gear.

    Hi, loved the video. Thought I would share an issue I had with storing camping gear. A couple of years ago I put up a metal shelving system with wooden shelves in my garage to store our (ever growing) camping equipment. Thought it was the perfect setup, and then when spring arrived & we were about to go on a camping trip, I noticed that all the wooden shelves were covered in mould!!! Did quite a bit of research on this & came to the conclusion that it was due to humidity/dampness, lack of light & lack of ventilation inside our garage. So during the summer I treated all the shelves with mould remover, painted them with mould resistent paint & fitted a few soffit vents. Stored all the kit away in the garage last autumn and the following spring when I came to unpack the gear it was all perfect & mould free. Might be worth having a think about this, as it was awful seeing our expensive camping gear neatly organised on mouldy shelves!!!

    Handy Hint 327. Use some cheap white emulsion to paint the inside of the roof. You will need at least a couple of coats to get a decent density of colour. This will help throw the light around and will make an enormous difference if you are rooting around for something on a dark evening.

    Great get it done DIY video and it is also fascinating that imperial measurements are being still used in the the building trade and maybe a question for your Electoral Candidates when they knock on your door in relation to the flood water now ruining people's hard earned homes and businesses in some parts of the country at the moment - 'Is the flood water in Metres? Feet? or non-existent in the case of the PM?'

  • @gordonmcclung

    I work for a sectional timber building company and the amount of these sheds we replace is unreal. People buying these don't know any better. I suggest you go to a company that specialize in timber building's. Some things to look for are pressure treated flooring and floor runners, braced doors with heavy duty T hinges, sparking roof, and all of this should be built with heavy duty framing and bolted together for strength. Finally if you can afford it go for 19ml cladding this will give such a solid shed that will with stand high winds ect.

      No. We do have a fence. But we have had someone jump over our fence to and went into another shed and pinched a tool.

      Trouble is, anyone with a battery powered multi-tool will cut around them in a jiffy. Been reports here of that happening to gain entry to houses, cutting around the lock. As TCD is a DIY'er, no-one would think anything of hearing a saw going.
