Great amp and sound. Honestly I love both the sound of tube amps and this amp for metal. I think the people who are constantly saying the amp sucks is because they bought a 2000$ tube amp and then someone brings a 500$ amp like this that sounds damn close to their tone, they feel the need to bash the line 6 because they spent so much money on the tube amp and have to justify it. Plus no amp hiss coming from this like tube amps or feedback/changing tubes/buying 300 floor pedals blah blah. Just makes guitar playing affordable and fun.
I love this Amp. I can create any tone I need with my Spider V-120 ...love the interface on my 32" Computer Monitor. I added the MKII FBV Pedal and it is amazing. I have my fav 4 Tones at my feet...Anyone who disses this Amp has not tried it.
400 dollars for basically a pod x3, a 120 watt power amp, and a frfr speaker cab sounds amazing. After tweaking with a pod x3 for 6 years I would say that sounds like a user friendly, all around versatile combo.
That old dude is definitely funny! Although Glenn now seems to like the MKII version of Spider V. The Spark marketing team were genius by sponsoring his review of their amp.
*It always boils down to if a guitarist is skilled and can make anything sound good. Or if the guitarist is dependant on equipment to make them sound better.* *The Line 6 Spider units are engineered to sound like a Mesa Boogie. And they do. Completely!!*
Why do so many people hate on line 6? All their stuff is a great value and they DO sound decent. I almost bought a peavey invective head and cab which would have cost me $3000+ but I decided to go with the spider V 240, the fbv foot controller, a g10 relay, a two in one reverb/delay pedal, and a Jackson 7string guitar and I’m still under $2000.
I'll say this about the Spider V120, I get compliments all the time. I just took time and patience to A/B mine with my Single Rectifier, Friedman Grunt 40 and Marshall TSL60. Ok, I did spend about 25 total hours tinkering with the eq settings ect. Now I have a 29lb small gigging amp that actually sounds 90% like the amps twice the weight. I think with any modeling amp, you get out of it what you put into it. It's seems popular for some to hate on Line 6, as if they're the Nickelback of the amp world, but I've owned 3 different models and the Spider V can sound like most any amp you want if you have the patience to create and perfect your patches. It's extremely versitile. Thanks
I have an old spider 2 and the treble on that is pure hiss and fizz on high gain. I mean, I've never tried a spider 5 so it could be a meaningless comparison but that would be my theory.
It could've had more high end if he'd had used a sm57. Condenser mics tend to have more low end and a less sharp high end than a dynamic one, from what I've listen. Or you can always turn up the treble and presence knobs...
Im not sure where you got that info from, In general it is quite the opposite. Condenser mic's are more sensitive in turn giving them a more detailed high end. thats why they're used on vocals, acoustic instruments, over heads etc more often than dynamic mics
Drey Bombardier well when I used a condenser on the guitars last time I recorded a band, it picked up all the high end, in fairness it was a pencil condenser (Neumann KM184), and not a valve condenser, but usually when I try and capture the high end I use a condenser (either an AKG C414 or Neumann KM184)
I've been playing since 1979 and have owned more amps than I care to remember. These Spider V's (gotta get the 120) are really flying under the radar because everyone is raving about the Katana but I spent three hours playing the Line 6, the Marshall Core, Fender newbie Mustang, Katana 100 and Blackstar IDP. The Katana was overtly bright though I suspect that could be somewhat negated once the stock speaker is broken in. The Fender's cleans were nice but its high gain tones sounded like a kazoo. The Core's tones were about as inspiring as eating a plate of pre-chewed peanut brittle and the Blackstar IDP was definitely impressive. I almost chose that one. However, in the end, as I've written elsewhere, forget the L6 presets and get into some deep diving with the options and the tones are definitely in there, as others are discovering. If you liked the Vetta but never had the cash for one, the V is right there with no apologies. One thing that sold me on the L6 as a "fun to f**k with when I'm bored" amp is the editing which can be done without the amp being hooked up to a computer. The Katana is limited in that respect. After the three hour test session, I came away with the impression that nine out of 10 of us would be happy with either the Spider V, Katana or Blackstar. The Code and Mustang just seemed like toys compared to those three. Once again, forget the presets. Just start with one basic grind-less tone with the Spyder V when you have an opportunity to play one and gradually add the toppings from there. The amp, the modulations and additional gain stages (if you desire). Change the cab and speakers within...even the mic and go from there and one thing that is almost required....use PEQ. It makes all the difference in the world.
Then Glenn came over and smashed it to death. Actually that was a nice metal tone. Nothing wrong with that amp to me, plus it's an audio interface with XLR outs so why not.
Back to back blind comparisons with several tube & modeling amps and the Spider V 60 sounded great. Several snobs at the shop couldn't pick out the tube amps from the more expensive modelers, including the Spider. One guy who rants against Spider amps picked it as one of the better sounds. Was surprised by the results. Comparison was with the 60 that retails for $300.
I like his honesty. Nothing wrong with that. As someone who has played on old spiders. A 40 watt blackstar combo and a 15 watt vypyr. I'm not going back to them but that one with the 12 inch speaker could do alright for practices. I'll prefer my valveking tho since its a bit cheaper and louder lol.
Way late to this comment chain, but I picked up the 2nd gen ValveKing 20 watt combo, and god damn does it sound great with my Les Paul and Iceman. I can dial in a decent range of tones, from sparkly cleans to early metal. It can’t quite hit newer metal tones, but still sounds amazing for the price point.
It sounds okay. Sorta. I think if someone were to replace the speaker inside then it might sound better because it doesn't produce low frequency sounds too well so the bottom three strings sound really muddy.
Okay honestly, I don’t get why there’s so much negativity. For what it is, it sounds great. It’s a practice amp, and not only that but it has a software to really dial in the sound you want with a ton of options. It’s not gonna be as good as an Axe FX or Kemper, because it’s not meant to compete, like I mentioned it’s a PRACTICE AMP. With that being said, it’s a great amp for beginners who just want something that has the potential to be good with a lot of versatility. I even bring mine out (same amp as in this video) when I’m traveling as it has a ton of options regarding amps, pedals, etc. It does what it’s supposed to do, and it does it well. Also, the demo didn’t even sound that bad? Like yeah it could be tighter but it’s honestly just the way Fluff set it up, I’ve personally come up with what I think to be better tones for modern metal.
Fluff I need your opinion. Getting ready to drop some cash on the Live 6 Spider V 120. Rattling around in my brain is the thought of spending $100 more and get the 212 240w. Do you think I would regret getting the 120? Thanks
I was wonderful and you were Fluff (i.e.: also wonderful). Thanks man, I just ordered the twin 12" version after having a POD HD500 for years and I'm beyond stoked.
Exactly. Great riff. Line 6 amps typically sound...okay...in a lifeless sort of way. I guess it is a sort of success because the amp did in fact amplify the guitar sound, as opposed to making grilled cheese or exploding.
The Line 6 AMPLIFI possessed the ability to edit your effects via iPad and I spent more time editing than I did actually playing guitar. Though it was nice to own... I am sad to report that it was a huge waste of time and a piece of shit. The Bluetooth connectivity kept losing signal every 5 minutes and I had to reconnect it. I am really just happy with my OG POD Pro Rack over an AMPLIFI pedalboard that is still in beta testing mode and it was mass produced and released way too prematurely.
"Line 6 Spider: ok, let's give it a try! All Blackstar amps: hum...not my thing, it's too fizzy." I don't get it Fluff, but it's all right. Love your channel!
I dunno, even though I've definitely upgraded since my 75w spider III, I've always prefered spiders to say peavy vypers. They have to be something with a 12 in speaker or it's just poop. I loved my spider III lol
Love that slide-y riff
why you got no likes here you go huh
What is this, a crossover episode?
Hi Jarred! Love your videos 😊
jfinkle
It because of dial isnt it
Great amp and sound. Honestly I love both the sound of tube amps and this amp for metal. Do a blind test and pretty sure half of these people on this comment section wouldn't notice it was line 6 spider.
diazzsama your right i would notice its a washed out muffled sounding amp
Agreed!
line6 is a great amp been using them for years. These kids are stupid.
zachary allende you totally would not.
I love my 240 hc, fn amazing amp
I love this Amp. I can create any tone I need with my Spider V-120 ...love the interface on my 32" Computer Monitor. I added the MKII FBV Pedal and it is amazing. I have my fav 4 Tones at my feet...Anyone who disses this Amp has not tried it.

Sounds better than the lower end one.
Would be cool to hear a demo of the head version
Ethan Carpenter Yes! Head and cab
GLENN WE NEED YOU
I would love to see a video of Fluff and Glen talking about the Line 6 Spiders.
It would probably end up with one of them dying or getting badly injured.
That old dude is definitely funny! Although Glenn now seems to like the MKII version of Spider V. The Spark marketing team were genius by sponsoring his review of their amp.
Very impressive, but what can you do with a Blackstar amp?
Oh wrong channel ... lol
Fluff that is one of best riff you ever pulled out!
I personally think it sounds amazing
other than using a condensor mic, post processing, and a great pre amp, yeah yeah just normal recording ya know totally fair and raw
*It always boils down to if a guitarist is skilled and can make anything sound good. Or if the guitarist is dependant on equipment to make them sound better.*

An improvement yes, but I’m disappointed about the lack of high end, especially considering that you used a tube condenser, sounds a bit muffled to me

I agree, my comment was meant to reply to @Alan Rojas

love the spider V 30, so many good effects and presets for metal
I have the spider v 240 (basically a 120 with two speakers instead of one) and so far I have no complaints.
But what does Glenn think?
Would love to see your take on the spider half stack
only waiting for Glenn
I love how you play the drop tuning with the sudden 4 fret stretch from the regular chord. It creates a very satisfying sound. Dissonance I guess??
Then Glenn came over and smashed it to death. Actually that was a nice metal tone. Nothing wrong with that amp to me, plus it's an audio interface with XLR outs so why not.

Thanks man, Line 6 has come a long way. If you are on the fence watch the Rig rundown with Yes if Steve Howe plays live with it anyone can.
Glenn's gonna be pissed...
Fluff, you should try out a Boss Katana 100, either the 1x12 or 2x12.
Glenn sucks lol ola englund is the only gear review channel that counts
Nate Gin Glenn is more of a girl on her period reviewing hallmark movies😂
Man your recording quality is off the charts!🔥
Sounds better than anything I've managed to get out of my Spider IV, but you can still tell it's a bargain amp.
Please play that riff in future videos!
Your channel is great!
That riff actually sounded wicked af

The valveking is a great amp! It can do everything and it's a "real" amp 😍
Way late to this comment chain, but I picked up the 2nd gen ValveKing 20 watt combo, and god damn does it sound great with my Les Paul and Iceman. How tall is it?
Ok thats awesome, but how does it sound miced up with something more common like a 57?
What is the combo he talks about ? the microphone plus Line 6?
Okay honestly, I don’t get why there’s so much negativity. For what it is, it sounds great. It’s a practice amp, and not only that but it has a software to really dial in the sound you want with a ton of options. Full 12" speaker size opposed to partial 12" speaker size?
Opinion of the Spider Valve amps? 🤔
What's the deal with using Condenser mics to to record electric guitar cab?
Aside from the tones, which were pretty good, this is definitely one of the best riffs/songs I've heard you write in a while.
That's awesome. Great video. I didn't know about that deskt💥op software. Where do I get that?
Is that a Mark 2C+ in the background?
Ceramic or alnico in the bridge pickup?
Demo video of Line 6 Firehawk pedal?
Dedicated to Glenn. Hoping to see you use this with your new custom shop 7 string
What drum thing has open in the back ground?
Glenn, the internet needs you!!!
So why can't u change the tones if you're using xlr? Can't you just not change it when you have it in USB ?
Just out of curiosity why do you EQ it? Just to give it a fair chance at sounding good in the mix?
what happened to 2nd line 6 helix video?
What's your opinion on the Line6 Spider Valve MKII HD 100 head. That would be interesting
Sounds way better than expected!!!
Great playing fluff
QUESTION, what are you tuning to do get that metal sound? Thanks
If you're into Line 6 stuff, you should review the Variax Shuriken.
what are these red 'amp riser' disc things under the Mesa head?
How expensive is that guitar? Could you do a demo of it through your soldano?
Dude. You mixes are always awesome.
How do you feel about the Line 6 Spider Valve Bogner 2x12?
Fluff I need your opinion. Getting ready to drop some cash on the Live 6 Spider V 120. Rattling around in my brain is the thought of spending $100 more and get the 212 240w. Do you think I would regret getting the 120? Thanks
Is that a Mesa JP-2c in background? Do you still have and like the Mesa Boogie TC? Any issues with it using effects loop or reverb?
better than the smaller one and older versions but still you can definitely get better for less money
why no playthrough though
You make it sound good Ryan
Can you plug the combo amp into a 4x12 cabinet
Good video, man. Loads of honest and descriptive information.
This is the second time you have used this riff to demo a product. Is this a song you have released and if so where can I find it?
I was wonderful and you were Fluff (i.e.: also wonderful). Thanks man, I just ordered the twin 12" version after having a POD HD500 for years and I'm beyond stoked.
Can someone tell me what the downloadable app he was using for the line 6 tones is?
What's the name of that song your playing ?
What amp model and cab are you using? Having a tough time getting a solid bass tone with a PRS Custom 24
Would have like to hear the xlr out from this amp thou...
i dont give a shit about the line 6 but that riffff brooooo... i am in love sooo goooood
Awesome riff, Fluff! I hope you've written a complete tune with it. If not, you should!
Sounds really great .
SpIdErs Are ToO SpoOky fOr mE !!!
Lucas LeCompte just in time for Halloween season lol
Love that first riff!
The only time I've ever liked a line 6 spider. It's honestly not bad
You're on every amp related video I'm watching. I noticed because I subbed your channel, you upload great albums !
I'm glad you enjoy the music brother. It's nice to know other people appreciate the same music as me. Thank you
Have you tried Landon Guitars? I got to see a few and they look amazing. I did not get to plug them in. I wish I would have.
Sounds too muddy for my taste, I prefer the Yamaha THR when it comes to practice amps. But as always, good video! Btw, any thoughts on Boss Katana?
I have the spyder 4 and it's shit. Is it worth upgrading 2 this one?
I have a Line 6 Spider IV and it shreds
Everything sounds cool in demo but when we brought it newly from the market, it always sound disgusting. Or am I setting in a wrong way?
I watch these for the riffs, and this one was gooood
Meh on the Spider - kudos on the riff.
FranklinWoodWorks
Couldn't agree more.
Exactly. Great riff. Line 6 amps typically sound...okay...in a lifeless sort of way. I guess it is a sort of success because the amp did in fact amplify the guitar sound, as opposed to making grilled cheese or exploding.
lol the spider sounds incredible dude. Wtf, people think they're cool picking on a brand for what reason I'll never know.
awesome riff sir

love watchin Fluff play!!!
"Line 6 Spider: ok, let's give it a try!
All Blackstar amps: hum...not my thing, it's too fizzy."
I don't get it Fluff, but it's all right. Love your channel!
What volume are you recording that amp at? Apartment living.
I wish they would make the Tap/Tempo or Tuner button, which ever it is STOP it from flashing....
Sounded good Though
Nice. Line 6 Spider V 240HC next?
I want this for Christmas.
Waayy better than I expected
Loved the song! Would make a sick Rest Repose song
Where do I find the code ?
i have a Spider V 30. love it. 💜🤘
I dunno, even though I've definitely upgraded since my 75w spider III, I've always prefered spiders to say peavy vypers. They have to be something with a 12 in speaker or it's just poop. I loved my spider III lol
I'd love to know your thoughts on the Helix!
