Oh Carl, as a small tip if you happen to have Jungle Adventure.
If getting zapped is getting in the way of your robotic activities, you can see about getting some of JA's Faraday Fizz drinks.
Drinking those instantly removes the Dangerously Fried moodlet, regardless of whether it's from a temple trap, robotics accidents, or just plain fixing electronics via Handiness.

@@TheRicoBentley If you have the drinks in your inventory already you might be able to clone them with spells or science.
@@TheRicoBentley You can get around like it was mentioned by stocking up beforehand, if you're still in Uni.
Though I got around it a different way, since I had Get To Work. A while back I set up a store to sell a large stock of JA supplies, since I was tired of the Vendors' random, limited supplies. After I set up the store, I just sold it so that the game itself would run it, and all of my other families could visit it to stock up at their leisure.
It's come in surprisingly handy!

@@Nicole-ru9tu Absolutely! That means they really can't handle or don't want to handle criticism (with solid arguments and from a gamer who has been playing the game since Sims 1). It's a shame. I wish they would reconsider.

I have a Super SIM I am going to have earn all the degrees. So she started with all skills maxed by the time she started university. She got shocked by robotics crafting until she reached level 10. It is crazy how wrong that is. And I just learned when she enhances the utili-bots she gets hurt and shocked still, at maxed out skill. A master craftsman should never feel these effects anymore.
Someone gets my pain! I was still getting it a level 9 and it was surprising. It only drops to 33% of the low level rate. It's like 3 from say levels 1-4, 2 for 5-7, 1 for 8-9 (roughly) and drops to 0 at level 10. It needs to have a much steeper decline. At level 8 of a skill you are very near mastery and it's just not making sense, especially if you watch some electromechanical engineers on YT and the crazy things they do (in relative safety).
Wow, that's alot of work, haha! I wonder if shocks at higher levels are a bug..?
I resorted to using UI Cheats and right clicking the 'dazed' buff away so I could keep working. I am at the top of my skill, and still whacking my head with the hammer and shocking myself when enhancing those blasted utili-bots...grrrrrrrrrrr

This must be a bug, right? EA surely can’t have intended the shock feature to have been nerfed so badly? It’s not just with Robotics; I’m noticing my Sim getting shocked way more frequently when repairing electronic objects as well, even at high handiness skill.

I don't understand why servos have a gender if they all look the same and are also infertile.
I'm guessing if you're a guy and you hook up with a servo gendered as a guy not only are you servo sexual but also gay, so if you wish to be a straight servo sexual you can, choice it matters
I think you're mostly picking the voice, like the AI on your smartphone. Their parts are the same, or so says my Sim as he's inspected both in the shower.
@@CarlsSimGuides In unmodded games sims don't really have a sexuality. It's weird because when we had robots in The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 they could be customized as feminine while I don't see it here, I didn't know about the voice but I still don't think it's enough of a difference. I wonder if someone will come up with a mod.
@@simspires5837 It's not just voice but also animations I believe, as there are feminine forms of animations I think? I haven't had too many gay Sims, just a few, so I'm not 100% sure.

Carl, here's some REALLY important tips when it comes to the Secret Society! 1. As of now, there's a glitch where the Sprites will still pop up after you graduate or quit the Secret Society. Be prepared to have to entertain the little buggers until the next patch! 2. The way to make baked goods without a stove is to upgrade the mini fridge until the food comes out excellent quality. Then, put a Scout cookie in your inventory, and use it as an offering for the statue!
this glitch where the sprites will still come over even though i quit the secret society is so annoying, but i don't want to delete my sim. Does anyone have any advice on how to solve this problem?
@@user-loser_ you can give your sim the 'carefree' trait for 3000 points, then they will no longer get tense? but that's all people have figured out so far :/

Anyone Nobody thank you! I need to do that too, my sim has a constant «Feeling guilty from neglecting the sprites» tense moodlet, even though I legt the society and graduated, and tjere’s no countdown for it, so it won’t go away! I’m going to try this though
FYI: If Servos get shocked, it recharges them and confers a short-lasting Energized buff. A handy tip for planning a robot uprising.
Don't know if someone has said this already, but to get into the secret society I didn't need to have great quality baked goods to offer. I just got a cupcake from the cafeteria and offered that and my sim got accepted to the order of enchantment the next day.
I am kind of annoyed with the sprites constantly showing up though... My sim is constantly tense from not paying attention to them
That easy!? I mean ... c'mon! The system of getting accepted should have been more difficult or challenging. I don't know ... Something that really makes you want to be part of the secret society.
I took a plate of cookie someone brought into dorm, and I hate the sprites... i stopped playing with my over skilled sim when i graduated and still had to deal with them.
@@hollysims7 I was reading the other comments and someone said that it seems the sprites are bugged (that they shouldn't follow you once you've graduated).

It took me days to get in because I tried offering rare crystals and stuff, then food, then eventually tried baked goods. I think the pie was what did it. By then I was just offering multiple things at a time, so it was either the pie or the brownies. I was super disappointed that the secret society is just a fairy slave cult tho. I was hoping for something more Skull and Bones like TS2 had. Wasn't there a lava mote and a cow plant and stuff? It made way more sense that you got in by befriending the members. I tried that this time before I finally learned the real way to get in. I may have to create my own using clubs and a custom built lot once I tire of building dorms (one of my all time favorite sims building activities!) I'm also disappointed that school organization perks disappear once you graduate. Some of them are super useful.
I wish I had known about the shift-click spawn parts cheat before I spent days cranking them out. I also had issues with enhancing utili-bots. 50% of the time the parts wouId disappear from my inventory, but my SIM would not perform the action. So I would have to make more, try again and cross my fingers it works.
I felt pretty stupid when I finally saw that, as when I got to the testing phase here I was still clicking to buy dozens of parts and even crafting the mechanisms and computers one by one. I'm cheating and I STILL have to work?!! Good of them to leave that one.
The disappearance of parts while enhancing the Utilibots happens to me all the time. So I don't bother enhancing them. I just use my Servo to do all the things.
Regarding the robot’s selling price, could you set a robot for sale in one of Get to Work’s shops and make a profit that way? Making a robotics shop sounds kinda cool.
You can Grofit by using Toys, but the more dedicated Robos you'll lose margins, hopefully a mod will fix this oversight.
I’d hope so, had a sim in Sims2 that became a billionaire due to building and selling bots/servos in her store. Well, her husband (her first servo) helped craft some up as well.

For baked good offerings, I grabbed a cookie from the free cafeteria counter and offered it up to the statue. A few days later, they showed up to welcome me to the secret society 😁
It works with baked goods from the microwave and the crumble you can make on the outdoor grills.

While living on campus, I visited the park in San Myshuno. There's a kitchen in the building there where you can make baked goods to take back to the statue in Britechester to make the sacrifice for the secret society.
I'm not sure how I feel about this pack. I think the overall feeling I get is that they wanted to make a good university experience but they cannot redo the core functions of the game so things feel very...strange and limited in some cases.
Yeah, the first thing I noticed was how EMPTY the campus is. I wish they'd stop catering to lowest possible computer specs and beef up the game a bit. It'd be so much better if it was more like City Living where you got a sense of being somewhere with lots of people and traffic around. I mean, in University, there aren't even any cars on the road. There are roads but they're all empty all the time, save for an occasional bike. It's like going to school in a ghost town. It's really weird, to say the least. At least they got dorms right. Thank god.
I get not attending class (i wouldn't want to personally) but i dont get why they couldn't use the same system as GTW where you either send alone or go with to appease every one. Literally would be reusing the same code and just setting it to do new tasks. Or honestly for me considering they cut that out why not give us an actual interactive grad ceremony/party type.
@@CaityRaindrop They're doing the same graduation style as TS3 -- disappear into the sports arena for awhile. They give you time to throw a party afterwards. I throw mine the night before. It's also nice that you can immediately re-enroll as soon as you move home, so you can go back the same day if you want another degree.

OMG, this! I argued with a Administrator of a Sims group on facebook because he's always apologetic towards Sims 4, I had to literally play the university with testingcheats and cas.fulleditemode so I could Fix all the mistakes they created with Townies, I know there is a hard-limit on Sims, else the game will lag and eventually CTD, but COME ON! they added only 6 new sims, and the rest they filled with the usual misformed, ugly, clown looking townies, they all look the same, why F won't they use the Sims I have created for filler functions?! we can't keep putting mods to fix all these things.
I did love the fact that all neighborhoods are accessible, I wish they had coded to restrict "distant" townies from appearing unless you invite them. Me thinks it's a side effect of it.
There were 'townies' at my real university because we were in a small town and people from town worked at the school or had other business there. I once even saw my boss in the parking lot on my way to class because he was running on his lunch break and cut across campus. Seems perfectly normal to me.
Mods will fix it.
"small town" yeah, not different countries or cities. How normal is it that people from a big city, a swamp and a desert are walking around like they lived in the new university world, the university world is it's own "town" and if I know geography right, deserts aren't too close to english-like towns.
In FF7 from 1997 you could push the down button and you'd get 99 of a thing you were buying. I *think* we can figure out a way of making that a thing in a 2019 game as well.

I found I leveled Robotics faster by doing the Physics degree than I ever did using the Robotics Workbench. I also accidentally found a legitimate, if exploitative, means of amassing larger amounts of components:
When the Bot Savants host their weekly Utilibot Contest, you can just take their bots. Select > Put In Inventory. Those robots can be disassembled on the workbench for a collection of upgrade parts, computer chips, and mechanisms which can then be put to use building the Exomech suit/helmet or a Servo.
Question: Have you tried to put a "bot" on the cloning machine (from science career) to clone them?

I found that getting the robo arm prevented me from getting shocked entirely
If you use the potion of resurrection you can combat the death that occurs from getting dazed.

Is it just me that thinks ‘Research and Debate’ was a really lazy ‘new’ skill by EA?
a) They should have been two separate skills - what has one got to do with the other? People who are good are research are not necessarily good at debating, and vice versa. Alternatively, debating shouldn’t be a skill and winning a debate should just require high charisma.
b) None of the ways of improving the skill are really new - the podiums are reskins, the research machine is just a computer, or you just use a mirror.
I just think it’s barebones compared to the detail of robotics (which is even better than Sims 2 robotics!)
Yeah, I think debate and charisma should overlap. And they don't have much to do with one another. Heck, you could easily overlap research and logic.
What i wonder is why they added a separate computer for the skill and not just integrate the interactions with the already existing ones. I know the menu for the computer really needs to be reorganised but having to buy a new computer to research stuff makes no sense.
Have you ever been in a debate class or club? What do you mean research and debate don’t go together? You sound misinformed. You can be a great researcher without being a good debater, but research is paramount to debate.
Imani McAlister - I did say ‘not necessarily’ in my original comment. Many debaters also have good research skills. However, from my own debating and public speaking experience, teams tend to be made up of lazy charismatic people who rely on other teammates with good research skills to supply them with the talking points!
Regardless, that wasn’t my point. The two things should have been separate skills as the one does not automatically lead to the other.
@@HerHollyness that's anecdotic but true to a point. A good debater should have a good research ability, and in an ideal world, this should be more important than your skill to charm your audience.
As the Sims is a game, I think is fair that they don't overlap, as they 'ideally' shouldn't.
Anyway, I agree with KeyqueenLion, in that they shouldn't have added a separate computer. Maybe just something you should have to add, like a software, that you could get once you reach Debate level 1 or 2.
Hey Carl, for the ordering parts online, I'm almost positive that you can click inside the # box and manually type in how many you want to buy. It's not the same as being able to buy in bulk, but it's definitely better than breaking your fingers from clicking!

I was able to get some baked goods with the random food that gets delivered to my dorm, in this case flirty cookies. I used those as an offering and got accepted into the secret society.
I always get "Normal" food, I think it has to be excellent? I read you could upgrade the mini-fridge to get desserts.

I used crumble that i made on the grill. You have a grill at the bar near the secret society meeting spot. That was really handy.
My sims has completed the chef aspiration and was a 10 level chef. Her cooking is excellent on the microwave. So i baked the dessert in the microwave. The only thing is that she wanted to eat it all the time so it was more practical to use the outdoor grills.
I stole the baking goods of my roommate as well.
And my sims lives in dorms.

You can get a baked offering from a kiosk near a university statue. It sale food like sweet bread and croissant for 5-7 simoleons.

I’ve seen in a small walk through of joining the secret society and what they did for the bake goods was have that big brown baking machine (I think it came in city living or get to work). They added it to their commons but I’ve seen people add a cafe to their dorm so you can of course it it there too which would make it easier for you to offer it
There’s already a mod to be able to add stoves to dorms. Just install that, put in some dorms and then bake some cookies or something! Alternatively, wait until your roommates bring in some baked goods and steal them. It happens pretty regularly!

Wow these University features are more in depth than I imagined... Originally I sent my sim to University to study Villainy & get the engineering degree I think? My initial plan was for my sim to be a villain and build up a core force of bots to do all her core work for her but I've just realised it's going to take eons to get that accomplished. 2 of my sims university room mates in campus room have died already.... and she hasn't even started the robot building or debate skill yet😂

This was really well made! If you want, here’s a little info about the sprites from the secret society, just from my experience: The sprites don’t actually demand excellent quality baked goods, they even take spoiled food, poor quality grilled food, common flowers and crystals.. I grilled some hot dogs and grinded my way to senior member in a couple in game days. Also, for some reason, the sprites keep bothering you after you leave Uni. That’s at least what’s happening to me.
Yeah you can also spam the societies socials and the meeting and get to max membership in that first week. Because face it, the only thing we want is to be able to Summon the Focused Sprites for the 30% boost to performance! To get rid of sprites after you complete uni you have to leave the Organization.
Playalot I actually left the organization a full term before my sim graduated, because I wanted more realistic gameplay, and it removed the “powers”, but not the sprite visitors or guilt. I kinda enjoy the idea of my sim’s bad decisions actually having an impact on her life after graduation. But yeah it’s way too easy to advance in the SS. And you don’t even get to use the mask in CAS! This one could be fun with some darker mods though.
@@DoodleAuthor I wonder if the sprites still being there after leaving the organization is a glitch. Have you tried deleting your localthumbcache.package file from your TheSims 4 folder? Because if I find out that my sims are 'haunted' for the entire of the rest of their very long (aging off) lives I will be pretty annoyed! I'm all for negative consequences but not life long random moodlets that come with the hidden and temporary 'erratic' trait as that causes your sims to not only talk to themselves but also drop queued directions continually!
Playalot damn, I didn’t know that was an option for bugfixing! Thanks for the tip, I’ll try that! Is there a temporary hidden erratic trait I’ve just missed? Maybe that’s why my legitimately Erratic sim sometimes has a duplicate of the erratic interactions. That’s a weird feature.

in previous sims I used to have a servo to be the household "keeper" throughout generations.
combined with story progression it was great.
in case the members of the main household died out he would "seek" members of the bloodline to add to the main house again.
sims 4 is a game with great potential that just stops there. in potential T_T

basically once almost all the inhabitants of the household died. (sims can be really... fragile if you leave them on their own for a while lol)
I used the servo since it was the only immortal in the household to track down distant relatives and then invite them to move into the main household.

No, the aspiration in this one is good. This is a good pack. I have a super sims at uni and she was struggling until i got the hang of it. Wich is a good thing.
The only thing is the price of uni. In my contry, it is free so the price is realistic for me but my sims who is a self made billionaire with no cheats, she has all the skills maxed out so she got at least 10 scholarships. So it wasn't really fun.
I sent her with 0 buck and she had to do the garbage wich was fun. But definitely i am enjoying this pack so far.

Carl, I have to thank you for the information about the I see ya, (Not sure how its written out in game yet) chests and the fact that we now have storage inventories that are unique to themselves. The lack of this feature has been a point of annoyance for me for as long as I can remember playing the sims since its iteration.
Speaking of the sims 1, I'd like to share a story that honestly is what made me fall in love with this franchise. Having made a few different sims at this point, one whom I had modeled after myself finally had some success in the romance department. After having built their relationship as high as possible. One day she called up and asked to come over and bring some friends along for the ride. Sure why not! The more the merrier! When she arrives her guests were an older gentleman, a teenage girl, and a young boy. She walked over to me sim and we kissed our hellos. That's when the proverbial sims hit the fan. The older gentleman marched right over to my sim and began slapping him around. I think he even had smoke coming out of his ears.
I was shocked! For a few moments I wondered if the game was broken. And then I looked at the names. Mortimer, Casandra, Alexander, and of course Bella. At the time these names held no particular relevance for me. But the fact that their last name was in every case Goth. Um yeah, I was mortified. My sim had just unwittingly become a homewrecker! To this day, I think that was the single most memorable moment I've ever experienced in any video game.
Anyways, just wanted to share this. I hope your day goes well. And I challenge everyone who reads this far to take on the following personal challenge. Think about what this might mean for you, and how you might live up to the ideals it inspires within you. #endhatrednow
You can sleep off being dazzled. Sometimes it goes away instantly when you go to sleep. I love Servos, they look super cool. I've waited all this time to get Servos back. But I don't like that they have fun and social needs and are not waterproof.

I’ve been watching people play this pack as I don’t have it yet and it seems that roommates only dorms often bring back “goods from home” and often times it is baked goods. So sims can steal these and give them as an offering since they don’t have a stove or their own.
If you wear the robot arm you dont get zapped anymore from my experience
Thanks for the great information Carl! I put a cupcake machine at the commons for baked goods to be offered. They accepted them and my sim was only on level 2 baking skill. I guess I just got lucky. Thanks again for all your help.

When ordering on the computer, try clicking the quantity with the right mouse button instead of the left.
Don't know if there was an update in the meantime or if it's due to a mod (if so, I don't know which one). For me, every right mouse click increases 10 instead of 1.

Yeah I took two sims and did four classes each and 2 organizations each. lmao The inflated timetable of unneeded business is hell to deal with. I actually wrote out my sims class schedule on a weekly planner and then it was pretty easy to manage!

SAME, LOL. but my sim is managing. She's living on campus in the housing, and she's managed to begin dating her highschool friend. In the beginning, she passed out a lot from the lack of sleep, but after a few days in sims time, I figured out how to keep things balanced, while having her study enough and even tutor. When I play again today, I get her grades since it's the last day of the week. I'm more nervous than I am with my own grades irl 😭
Hey Carl, I've been reading your guides since the sims 3 and recently discovered your videos. I love how informative they are. I was expecting a Sims 2 robotics station, but this is such a hassle. I agree that the design for ordering (and inventory too) needs so much improvement. Also, whenever I use the robotics table with a basketball hoop on the lot, my sims stop working and go shoot hoops. I can't figure out what causes this, but it's every single time! I had to put it in storage to level up robotics.
The broadcaster for the basketball hoop is basically set too high so sims will cancel a lot of other interaction to go use it. It is very annoying!

IL and RoM were big let downs to me and they came mostly back to back. This one has some actual gameplay in the university system and several things to do, and the fact I'm not done yet... with all the main features, on the guide - that's a good sign. There's a lot more ground to cover that relates to gameplay. When people buy an expansion they expect things to do, not better scenery or to have things handed to them with 0 effort. This having some goals to chase makes me much less negative on it as a whole even if parts annoy me.
Agreed there's lots to do. It doesn't feel quite as immersive as TS3 University was because the campus is so damned EMPTY, but it's not bad for a TS4 release. I've been playing it for days and only just barely finished my first degree. The build capabilities in this are also really good. A lot of that time has been spent building. Great new assets and mechanics for dorms, etc. And the degree mechanics feel decent. There's enough work to do to keep busy during the week. I feel like the organizations are a bit of a let down, especially the secret society, but hey, I'll be creative and make my own! Why not? It'll keep my busy. I think this pack is good enough, not spectacular, but has repeat game play potential, so it should keep me entertained for awhile yet, especially combined with other packs. Hopping over to San Myshuno for the spice festival after finals definitely feels even more fun now. :)

There is a food stand on-campus that almost looks like a Starbucks and you can purchase excellent quality baked goods like cinnamon rolls and sweetbreads from there then use them to make offers to the statue! It worked for me!

Yo Carl here's something you should add to ur guide even though it's late the chemical table from get to work if you have your sim experiment on it you can get robo parts for free

A convenient tip; you can get robotics parts by experimenting on the lab table. It spits out robo parts about every 3 minutes in Sim time.

Hey Carl & everyone else who’s keen on making baked goods to enter the secret society without any cheats but also keen on dorm experience therefore can’t cook. If you have city living expansion, you can goto San Myshuno Park where they have kitchen in the mansion & cook there :) hope this helps
For the Secret society if u haven’t added a stove to your school common area just go to your bakery in town and buy the best Quality Desserts. Also I could Buy some uncommon crystals from the flea market festival or the computer. Travel to school make your offering and go home. Within the 4 hours moodlet two Secret society members will show up and speak to you. The meeting spot is down the street from the school pub. I’m on Xbox so I can’t use mods. U can use the show hidden items cheats to buy metals if u got the get to work pack.

Not sure if it has been said or not, but if you have Realm of Magic then you can use the kitchen in the Magical HQ to do your cooking and baking.
I learned the hard way about the double zap death. I died and had to then make my other sim learn ambrosia to resurrect!
I feel like the amount of content in this pack is the only one worth while since the Sims 2.
due to a mod i am able to directly type in the number of how much i want to buy of something its really great they really need to add that to the base game

You do get about 4 parts every time you tinker at the station, though, which means buying is not the only way to get them (although, of course, the much faster one).
My biggest question about the pack: is it really worth going to University since careers are already very easy to rank up in? I just havent found a good reason for it and would just buy the pack for the items and side features when it goes on sale. Am I missing something?
You will very literally only have a few levels left with a good degree. So, it's going to take next to nothing to hit max. So you hit the nail on the head for one of Uni's big problems and I actually did a video about this. What happens AFTER university. Thankfully there is some gameplay during attendance but the pack doesn't do much for the after. Robotics, R&D (which in part revolves around going to school). With a stronger careers system, where you'd want to hop around, it'd be a lot better but with careers being similar, and student loans being ridiculously low (to the point I'd call it a bug)... it's problematic to the game's longevity to not have more that happens after Uni. It's also possible for people to burn out on going in the first place since you could just... rank up anyway.
@@CarlsSimGuides i mean, isnt it faster or just as fast to rank up a career from rank 1 instead of spending weeks in Uni while having to level skills and apply to it beforehand which also costs time in a regular play session?
@@Boethion Long term the Uni one would win, but you'll have so much money it's nearly pointless. The Uni one will have the career performance for overmaxing. The degree will also generate paid time off faster. So, it's mostly a long term thing in my eyes. If the game had a lot more to do with large sums... hm.
Much like any Uni pack I always found the experience your sims have there in uni life to be the highlight of these packs leading up to when they get a career with a couple of ranks into it. Usually my least favorite packs across the board but Ive enjoyed my sims attending Uni.

Since it's a guide video, I'd like to comment on your website guide for degrees. I think your dislike for the Foxbury layout is in part to blame. While I was able to get my sims into all sorts of distinguished degrees in Britchester, thanks to your guides, none of your recommendations for skills to build before applying worked for the Foxbury ones so far...
I've only just got university and i found if you get a degree in physics before starting on robotics you don't get shocked as much my sim is skill 8 he's only been shocked once working on a chatter bot so far 🙂
Just use both of your fingers to click on the one button when you're buying loads of thingsf. Makes it actually kinda fun.
On your website and in you last video on this pac you say that it would be a good idea to enroll on a sunday so to skip weekend if you want a quicker term, but when I tried that my sim got monday off too, and so it was the same as if i'd enrolled monday except I hadd an extra day without any real goals (since my sim's goal was to, ehm, woohoo with a professor.. can't meet them if you haven't been to class yet)
It is a bit better than enrolling on say a Tuesday though, you have to suffer though 4 weekends with nothing to do...it almost made me give up as time dragged so slowly!
@@playalot8513 that's the point though, they skipped all the monday classes & the term clock didn't start counting until tuesday so in effect it's the exact same as enrolling on monday but you get an extra day of nothing to do because you'll have to wait through next weekend for exams on monday still
@@FragrenceAtMiracleEd Yep, I get you, that's what happened with my main sim - had his final exams on the Friday but still had to wait and do his Monday classes even though he should haven been finished on the Friday. And another sim I played had his exams on the following Monday even though the UI said that there were no days left of class on the Friday before. So basically it is quite glitchy!

Regarding Servos, does anyone else have a problem where you can't activate them once you're done building them? Whenever I go to activate them all it says is dismantle or sell deactivated servo. It's very annoying especially when you end up wasting all your parts, thank you Carl for showing the cheat for more parts!
