@@charleswind8298 he sang harmony vocals, and split lead vocals on some songs. He and Don split lead vocals on Wild Eyed Southern Boys, for one. Also, was the hype man who got the crowd going. The other missing piece is long time bassist Larry Junstrom, who passed away a couple years back.
I never understood why he was even in the band....didn't sing lead on any of their hits, and live he only sang a couple tracks.....was his guitar even plugged in? I hear no acoustic guitar in this song...
Saw them in Chattanooga TN at Riverbend festival. DVZ had already retired but nobody there seemed to miss him at all. After all, the hit songs were DB anyway. 😊
I've seen a few of these clips from the Square Fair and I don't think they allow Donnie to even have his guitar turned on. Don was starting to sound a little shaky at the end but pulled it off just fine. Damn, we're getting old. Danny was right on and did them licks justice. Come back to the PNW soon. I've enjoyed videos...
Larry and his Lakeland bass were the first thing I noticed. When was this shot ? Such an underrated player. He and Jeff C. were such a big part of their sound.
Not the same without Jeff.. There are some things you CANT just hand over to someone else and exspect the same outcome.. the recipe said butter, not that coconut OIL.. Not the same...
Does anybody know why Donnie has a guitar strapped on his shoulder? If he actually played it I'd understand. Great song writer and great singer but, not guitar player.
That would have sounded every bit as good if they has replaced Donnie with a pet monkey. He might as well have played air guitar, and ran around looking for his Ritalin. His biggest contribution is the hat, he stole from his brother.. Barnes is great.
Americans greatest southern rock band.
My favorite rock and roll band EVER!
Just saw these guys last night in Oshkosh wisconsin...what a party on the water..They still have it !
They were fabulous at Summerfest in Milwaukee this past summer also.
Yes the only time I saw 38 special was 1982 in Akron what a show it was .
😮great band ! Still going strong!
Such an amazing voice killing it live sounds like perfection.
Donnie Van Zant is a big part missing from this band right now. Unfortunately he retired 9 years ago
What's missing?
Never heard what he did for the sound. Doesn’t play lead guitar, doesn’t sing lead. Enlighten me.

Not anymore......sadly! There were the greatest Southern Rock Band of all time......and my all time favorite band!
Donny Van Zant with the signature hat like his brother Ronnie.
Thank you for this! This metal head bows to this band! Great performance and epic song!
Same here, from a die hard METALLICA fan!🤘 Love .38 Special!
I saw them live back in the 80's at a Metal festival along with Iron Maiden and Motorhead. Long live rock and metal.

Donnie Van Zant is the heart of this group.
My gosh, such a great and sooo good song!! I do relate to that......
One of my favorites to do with my cover band.
So talented... The best of the best xoxo
here's keeping our fingers crossed for 2021.... Clovis NM
...see you there!!!!
Great song. Really good guitar solo. No Jeff Carlisi though. I miss his contribution to the band. He is that signature sound.
Love love this song ...

I think I saw them back in the day 🤔
So its a lot of replacements now, they still sounded great. Guitar player did that sweet solo justice.
Danny Chauncey!!!❤❤❤
R.I.P. Larry Jungstrom (BassI! Original bassist for Skynyrd.

His bio claims he’s a guitarist
Danny far better than the new guy, Jerry or whoever!.
Jeff Carlisi .....
Seeing guys on top of other guys' shoulders in the pit in this clip is one of the gayest things I have ever seen at a show. Who does that?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
I think those guys had a few too many LMMFAO!!

That's a very annoying comment.
It’s true
Donnie Van Zant spends a lot of time doing absolutely nothing. Air guitarist supreme.
Other than his name I never understood what he was there for

Not even plugged in an insult to all who have spent countless hours learning the instrument and never have a chance to get on a stage
