why is everyone complaining? I liked this.
To be fair.. the game didn't have a lot of memorable soundtracks besides this one.
XM Ajax you like this? This isn't even gears like. It does not sound like a gears game like it should. They need to change it and take off I'd from home screen because that irritates me or At least they should allow us to choose what character we want on our game menu. I'm also a hardcore gears fan and they didn't deliver a gears game that felt like a gears game.

The Locust were killed off and he was ended, this Fake was mostly about the aftermath. I agree it didn’t feel like a Gears of War game because their is no war at the moment. Though I do still like this game because it talks about what happened to all the characters.
It as really cool, the beats made it sound amazing. Gears 5 is totally different, more of a heroic tone.

@@xxWidex Came here to post this. i love when you can hear a composer reference their other work. Like how a few bars of the harry potter theme show up in revenge of the sith's OST. Or how the doctor strange score lifts bits from the star trek score.
This menu theme is incredible. It gives you that mystery vibe and has this Metroid theme to it

I think Gears 3 improved on the already amazing music of Gears 2. It has the climatic finale music (and of course the stuff during Dom's death).

This game was very similar to Gears 1, this theme is the perfect embodiment of an old enemy reborn and ready to retake the world, and they are even deadlier than ever....

When i put in the game for the first time and this screen showed up my jaw dropped. the graphics are unbeliveable in this game. its a major step up from the rest of the games.
Protector of Justice gears series has always had great graphics for their times, I think it gets overlooked a lot

Even with Gears of War 1 Ultimate Edition. Wow that game looks amazing and made my jaw drop several times.
I knew there was no way Gears 5's theme could top this. It has some good music, but this is just amazing.
I really like this, it gives you more serious vibe. And since he composed Pacific Rim, the tones are a bit similar. Well i agree some people says Gears of war 2 theme is much better and nostalgic than this. but This is something as well.
Listen to Light of the Seven from the Game of Thrones soundtrack (that he also composed) and put it at about 1:10. You'll realise exactly where he got the melodic sounding tones for the Gears 4 menu theme from

Half of my fam grew up on video games, and gears was one of them
Gears of war 1 was my dads side, the middle children liked it a lot
Gears of war 2 was my brothers i think, at the time he began to see the franchise
Gears of war 3 was everyones favorite
And gears of war 4, you can guess, me the youngling back then loved it.
Gears 1.. man.. so many great memories. My XBL friends and I would join one of our matches, all of us get in the middle and randomize the teams and start talking trash to each other lol as the round started.

This theme is amazing! I don't know why so many people say it's their least favourite or simply bad. I love the original one and the version from gow 3 is my favourite, but I appreciate introducing a completely new tune. Btw. it was composed by Ramin Djawadi, the guy also did the ost for iron man and game of thrones. Really underrated composer imo.
BF and I noticed it sounded like Light of the Seven from GoT. Laughed when we found out the composer. Makes sense, lol.

As someone who grew up playing Halo and Gears of War on the 360, I have to say how much better The Coalition has handled this series compared to 343 and Halo.
Gears 4 has issues but it's still a really solid game. 5 improved on it and had a really interesting open world campaign. I wouldn't be surprised if 6 gets announced soon.
I'm right now replaying Gears of War 4 on Insane and having a blast. Absolutely love this menu music. Probably beats the first game as my favorite.
I agree. I felt Gears 5 was the more consistent game, than Gears 4 on MP, and the SP was fantastic. Gears 5 felt like Gears 2 level.

2021 Update!!! I'm going to leave the original comment from 3 years ago. I've been having people tell me to update it and sound offended at my choices. Here's a new and improved updated list:
Gears 2:
None of the menu's in the series is more iconic. The music is exactly what Gears is. Mysterious, full of dark horns, and with the slight rattles of military drums in the background.
Gears 3:
It was a very exceptional theme. Nothing but fond memories with it.
Gears Judgement:
This is my third because the guitars are just so nicely mixed in with the ominousness in the theme.
Gears 1:
Basically Gears 2 but with less of the well-made music. Although it is still the OG, that does not mean it's the best.
Gears 1 Ultimate Edition:
The first of the newest Gears games to do the lackluster main menu. The music is a revamp of Gears 1 but the menu is simply not good.
Gears 4:
The first entry of the new storyline. It's main menu was lackluster and the music was nowhere near as good as 2, 3, or even Judgement. I was stoked for this game and the menu and music were the first things I noticed that sucked about this game. It suffers from what a lot of games do today... Lack of originality and/or creativity.
Gears 5:
Should've figured it'd be last. Interesting game though. But the main menu was like 4 (except somehow even more off the deep end). Gears 5 lacks what the original game's music was meant to represent. No wonder they dropped the "of War" in the title. There's nothing threatening or dark about it.
Gears 1, Gears 2, Gears Judgment, Gears 3 and Gears 4. Gears 1 is.. something else entirely.
Hrag Farra yep! so ominous. not to mention the full soundtrack. it was full of literal heartpounding beats with a heavy horn sound to it. sounded very warlike. like all Hell was about to break loose. I hope Gears 5 is um... darker? grittier? because 4 WAS great but it didn't have that atmospheric despair feel to it.
Gears 4 campaign was awesome, but I agree about the atmosphere.. maybe because since it's after the Locust-Human War and civilization is returning to normal? There's hope in that world, but the Swarm is knocking down their doors so hopefully the 5th one is darker.
I honestly pity to all gamers that haven't played the original Gears, Gears Remaster or the entire series for that matter.
One thing I will mention though is the main menu music of Gears Judgment.. it's dark as fuck.

Ive grown to like gears 4 alot moee, considering this music _isnt_ gears of war, its a new threat, and the song perfectly reciprocated that with the tone with vaugely familiar melodies and leitmotifs, with a new set of instruments and sounds

Yes it might not be as tragic and awesome as the Gears 2 theme but its not meant to be. This theme embodies a sense of foreboding atmosphere and mystery, the Locust have been eradicated and the war is over, yet there is still something out there that we have no knowledge or information of at all. But whatever it is, its here, and it wants us all dead.
Danm, this game came out in October 2016, but for me in Summer 2019 I heard of Gears 5 releasing that year, seeing that Gears was an Xbox icon like Halo, I figured I’d play the games to catch up for Gears 5. So I started with either Judgment or Gears Ultimate and binged through the games. I even played the shit out of 3’s Horde mode. Got all the to Rank 60. But man this music feels nostalgic, playing Gears 4 quite a lot, not much anymore as 5 is the better multiplayer with more enemy types and Escape.
This theme reminds me of waiting for my looking for group to fill up so we could run a horde speedrun and farm credits for the carmine lootpacks lmao

I've gotten used to 4 and 5's menu music now. They may not be dark, and mean as much as 1-3, but still, they are pretty good.
I like this one but Gears of war 2 still has the best title screen music.

Yo siento como que no. Está buena la canción, pero Gears siempre ha tenido ese estilo de banda de guerra combinado con orquesta (Desconozco el nombre del género) y el clásico sonidito del CGO, que me hubiera gustado mucho escucharlo en ésta canción.
Aparte de que el menú es feo en mi opinión, sólo pusieron al Max Steel ahí parado con efectos de viento, y con el símbolo de carmesí que muy poco se aprecia. Ya ni el Judment estaba tan falto de creatividad
