    The Honda Del Sol is a Honda that is sometimes very overlooked as a platform, but also seen in a way as a front wheel drive Miata of sorts. Starting it's life as a single cam d series engine, this Honda Del Sol is equipped with a F20B Vtec power plant to a b series transmission! Also known as an F to B swap, it's extremely effective revving out to 8500 RPM with a check engine shift light!. The F20B is similar to the H22 and H23, and I will tell you why this car is a hoot to drive. Thanks for watching and have a great day!

    If you make a light weight, great handling car with the ability to swap in other motors....it's a guys car.

      I've got a pretty gnarly 97 Del Sol, with a Type R Acura motor. Once I was pulling out of a parking lot with the top down and two guys were walking by. One of these guys says, loud enough for me to hear, "Isn't that a girl car?"
      As I'm leaving I see the guy climbing the ladder into his lifted truck. So I stopped and said, "Just for your information, this is a car for a guy whose dick is big enough. What's that truck of yours all about?"

    Del Sol's are underrated of all the Honda chassis. You share the same engine bay as an EG hatch and you get 2 seats. The interior has things that are still used in the S2k and started in the NSX. Plus you get a full removable targa top starting even from the base S model. In 1994 you got a B16a3! I mean what else do you want, in 97 you got the A2 same as the EM1. 2 seater that fun as hell.

    • @HondaVlogs
      @HondaVlogs 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Lol That's a moot topic. There is B series all motor that broke 9.9 all motor. You can look at the FWD hondas on the Nurburgring that are doing just as good as their RWD counterparts. Between balance and driving, FWD and RWD can be argued forever. Although, i will agree that at the same time the Del Sol launched the MR2 was release and if Honda would of mid-engined the Del Sol in the 90's it would change a lot of things. So, there is the fact I wish the del sol was rwd sometimes.

    I have same year, same color, D16y8 still in it running strong- sneaking up on 200,000 now.
    The chasis and rear suspension look literally untouched. I was surprised when I went to do the brakes. Otherwise I never took the rear wheels off before. lol
    It seems like it will run forever. Just gotta adjust valve lash once in a while and change fluids. Replaced exhaust, axles and intake, otherwise all original parts. Plan on upgrading suspension this summer and maybe port if I have time. Original wheels are actually the lightest wheels I could find. No need to change.
    Everyone tries to race me and most get beat up. They don't realize I deleted everything for HP and weight. heh
    The Vtec surprises them. They probably think it's boosted. Probably only 120hp or so, but it's light and well-maintained. Every little thing counts. Even the driver. That's why I see WRXs and BMWs in my rear view all day. :)

    • @sentree9857
      @sentree9857 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      do you know what's involved for doing this setup in a del sol if i already have a b16? i would basically need motor mounts, an h to b kit right? what about axles would i use the b16 or f20b? is welding involved?

    Just bought a 1995 del sol, top leaks, idle surges, fixed exhaust and engine attention. not cheap by any means. I am in SOFLO so it will be fun with top off. Original stereo broke, parts are hard to find. I had a 1996 Accord died at 478,000 miles. This is more a toy vehicle. I am 75 and wonder why so many people recognize this vehicle. This is car heaven on luxury vehicles yet a new Bentley convertible driver talked to me about the del sol when he was in the most beautiful car in SOFLO. Never know down here. I am hoping to get better gas mileage after fixing idle problem, red lights kill ya down here. Decent on highway but not great. I am trying my best to get it fixed up. All in all its a project but Hondas last forever, 287,000 miles on this one. Top going in trunk 2moro with boom box in back seat and A1A drive after Mass! Enjoy nice video thx DC

    4:44 Build to last. That is fact, they built it to last nearly forever. So good is the engineering that the only determining factor when to no longer own it is when the paint wears off as that is a major item that many feel they should not spend on a old car. However I truly believe it is worth it from the future savings it will provide having a car that no longer depreciates and known to be near indestructible.
    4:48 Best advise. Not modifying your Honda is one you will not regret in the future as it keeps all the qualities you may not appreciate now but certainly will in the future when your friends cars are falling apart due to their mods and cannot find the same part anymore to fix it or cannot diagnose the problems etc.

    I really appreciate that you give Honda it's due respect. So many people think Honda's are a joke now because of the poser ricer scene. F*** that though, Hondas are legitimately good cars, incredibly reliable, affordable, fun to drive, and basically begging you to make them go faster. It has been a staple in tuner culture for a long time for good reason. It's also cool to see one of it's more under-appreciated cars getting some love.

    I was BIG BIG BIG Honda guy from when I bought my first CRX as a sophomore until I was almost 30. I bought a Camry, and now I can't imagine wanting to daily a CRX or a Del Sol. So tiny, and not nearly enough power. Even if you do those crazy rare "high" horsepower engine swaps, let's be honest. They're just not fast. Not unless you get into turbocharging and high dollar engine building.Maybe one day I can find a decent cooler old civic, and have a little weekend car. See how I like it.

      Hondas arent for high power. They are for fun driving experience that preform good enough so that you can go fast when youd like and still have a nice reliable car. 😐

    Every time I see a DelSol I see the mini NSX that it should have been I mean, it’s design just screams Mid Engine RWD car not FWD. Still a cool car with its own following within the Honda community. that mileage on the chassis doesn’t surprise me either.

    I LOVE Honda’s and (Toyota’s). They are very dependable as long as you take care of them. I had a 1986 Toyota Celica GTS. I LOVED it. Dude hit me head on. So it had to go to car heaven. 😢. Then a 1987 Honda Accord. Loved it. Then a 1996 Honda Passport 5 speed. loved it. Then a 1997 Toyota 4 Runner. Loved it. Now I have an 08 Honda Pilot. LOVE IT. Don’t plan on getting rid of her. Until she absolutely falls apart. My husband had a 1987 Toyota pickup. When he sold it, it had over 300,000 miles on it. And nothing had been replaced in the engine. Then he got a 02 Tacoma brand new and is still driving it. My daughter had an 2010 Toyota Camry. Wrecked it. Then we found her a 2014 Camry SE. that thing is sharp and is her baby.

    Targa are amazing it’s about the “feeling”... you wanna drive a 700 Lambo ? It feels like your driving in an elevator in a coupe. Driving in a targa or a roadster you then feel like your driving a 700 hp roller coaster. You hear the engine the exhaust the wind and it feels more dangerous but it’s awesome. Coupes look better parked and to other people admiring your car, drop tops are more of an experience to pilot. Just my $0.02...
