A Kai car doesn't have the acceleration to get out of a bad merging decision, nor does it have enough bodywork to prevent a modern car from turning the car and the occupant into a crumpled soda can. The car also has you on the ground, so visibility is very poor- again adding to the merging mistake risk. Wheelbase is very short and engine is midship, so snap oversteer is always looming. I would be hesitant to drive one on busy public roads, and I have driven very small cars (IE Miata and Fiero) and I also have many years driving and a CDL-X for 7 years.
I've lived in the north and south of the USA. These cars are death wishes in a country where every other a-hole is driving an SUV or jacked up truck. It's cute and funny until your first wreck has you underneath another vehicle. They don't even notice motocycle drivers as loud as their vehicles are. "Please Lord, don't let me die in a vehicle making less than 75hp"

From what I was researching, they use the same unit (F6A). Mazda was using Suzuki's engines back then. Actually, a while after the AZ-1 was released, Suzuki made its own badge-engineered version, the Suzuki Cara.

Both of these (V6 and V10) actually are like two 3 and 5-cylinder engines connected sharing a common crankshaft, in very simple terms. Things like firing order and crankshaft design (in the case of 4-cylinder and V8's, with flatplane and crossplane crank designs) can affect the sound, but the basic frequencies are there.

I've always wanted a kei car since I seen and drove them in Gran Turismo 2 and 4 etc. My favorites have always been Mazda autozam AZ-1, Daihatsu Opti Club Sport, and Suzuki Alto Works Sports Limited etc. I just did pricing on CarFromJapan among other places and within a few years I'm buying a kei car.. glad they're legal here in CA finally. This video was super entertaining thanks!! The car looks and sounds amazing and I bet it handles like a dream with that 1680lbs body and mid engine rear wheel drive!
The best thing about this video are the onramp blasts. Sure it sounds like you are accelerating to 150MPH, but then you see the Grand Cherokee drive past you......

This looks like the ultimate car to trash around the Nurburgring no joke. This looks WAY more fun to drive than any supercar out there, you probably would be less afraid to drive this thing cause its "underpowered" but I bet this thing grips beautifully.
I LOVE this! Love the other 2 competitors to this too, Donut media has a great video on kei cars. My MS3 is the closest thing ill get to a kei car for daily driving. Thats already a bold move seeing as everyone has a lifted truck or SUV here lol.

Man, I can't imagine how fun this thing is to drive. Love high revving car but in most cars, if you're revving anywhere near 9K, you're WAY over the speed limit. With this thing, you're revving like a race car but not risking your license.

That looks like it would be fun on an autocross track. You wouldn't set any records, but it would still just be fun! So it can go on the highway… but what's it like? Rough ride? What's your speed/gear/rpms -- could it do the interstate comfortably for an hour or two, or would that be pushing its limits or the comfort of your butt/spine?
Those AZ-1 badges on the roof of the car actually belong to detachable window covers, you can take them off from the inside so you actually have windows on the roof above the driver and passenger seats. Just found that out from Doug's video lol
To all the people waxing poetically about owning one these and wondering if they could fit inside. I've actually sat in one and I'm 5'11" 220lbs stocky build. I could just barely get my legs around the steering column, there's no way to close the gullwing while I'm sitting in the driver seat and even if you left the door upwards and tried to drive it there's just no room to shift, turn the wheel, etc. Finally after my realization that this just wasn't going to be, I thought that the dealer might have to call 911 and get the jaws of life to extract me. Luckily I did get out without damaging the car, it would really suck to have damaged something on the way out. One of my all time favorite kei cars.

Cars with 0.6, 0.65L were very popular in Italy and Poland until not so long ago, bc of FIAT 126 (2 cylinder , 2 valve, pushrod, air-colled, rear engine only 24hp - not joking) which was the most popular car on the streets. They were also similar in size to Kei-Cars. Literally almost every family had one.

If you watch engineering explained he has a video “why turbo engines are actually more efficient” if you were to turbo charge a regular n/a built car it would still have a mostly linear torque curve and make loads more power than a factory turbo engine, or if you were to put large camshafts in some turbo car it would bring the power up in the rev range without lowering the torque at the bottom and

Have you ever heard from a vendor why there are so few used cars in Japan? This is due to irreparable damage in the event of an accident. It's a famous story in Japan, so be careful about accidents. Driving is a fun car.
