  • A few dips into the water and a few tears, and this baby begins his journey in the Orthodox Christian faith.
The child is one of more than 500 who are being baptized at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi.
The church is filled with tears, laughter, buckets of water, priests, babies and their godparents for the mass ceremony.
Parents from across Georgia travelled here to have their babies baptized

      @@johncats805 What Jehovah's Witnesses Say:
According to the Jehovah's Witnesses, infants cannot be baptized. A person should be baptized in adulthood, when he will have his own faith in God and will perform this ritual consciously, of his own free will. What does Scripture answer:
Baptism is a necessary condition for the establishment of the kingdom of heaven and for animals.
"He that is not born of water and the Spirit cannot enter into the kingdom of God" (John 3: 5).
Children need baptism for the following reasons:
      A) By birth all men are sinners.
"For as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by the power of sin, and death came upon all men, so that they all sinned ... Of Adam, who is the face of the wicked in their time ”(Rom. 5:12, 14). (Ancient Georgian)
      B) Sin has encompassed not only our will but also our nature. That is why we are "children of wrath by nature" (Eph. 2: 3).
      C) A cursed (unclean, unclean) man will not enter the kingdom.
"And there shall in no wise enter into them any thing that cometh in the midst of thee, or of falsehood, but of them that are written in the book of life of the Lamb" (Rev. 21:27). Through the Epiphany people are cleansed from sin and become spiritually children of God.
"But Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins" (Acts 2:38).
“All of you, by the faith of Christ Jesus, are children of God. All who have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ ”(Gal. 3: 26-27). (See Acts 22, 16; 1 Cor. 6, 11; Titus 5-7).
Jesus called the children to him.
"But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven" (Matt. 19:14).
The first Christians were baptized in entire families, including children.
"And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be lightened, every one of you, through the forgiveness of sins in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ....
"He (Lydia) and his household were enlightened" (Acts 16:15. See Acts 16: 33-34).
According to the biblical tradition, "house" meant children first (see 3 Kings 17. 9-17; Job 21. 19-21). The Bible indicates that there were no children in the household (Gen. 50: 7-8).
The apostle Paul calls children saints.
"Even your children would be unclean, but now they are unclean" (1 Cor. 7:14). No one is called a saint without baptism (see John 3: 5; 1 Cor. 6:11; Acts 22:16; Titus 3: 5-7). In the Old Testament, circumcision was performed on the 8th day after the birth of a child.
"For eight days every male among you must be circumcised from generation to generation....
Circumcision is the prelude to New Testament baptism.
"In whom you have circumcised the circumcision ... the circumcision of Christ; Bury him with the baptism ”(Col. 2: 11-12).
“A Jew is one who is a Jew on the inside; And circumcision is that which is of the heart and of the spirit, and not of the spirit. And not of men, but of God ”(Rom. 2:29; see Gal. 2: 3; Phil. 3: 2-3).
Thus, the verses quoted show that if infant circumcision could be performed on the 8th day in the Old Testament, infant baptism could also be performed in the New Testament. And if necessary, when the baby's life is in danger, it can be baptized immediately, in the first hours of life, so that the baby can be presented before God cleansed from Adam's sins. There are many times when such baptism saves children cleansed from the sins of Adam and their parents.
The same is true of the first-century saints of the Church of Christ. For example, St. Dionysius the Areopagite writes: "Our divine teachers (apostles) wanted to send children down for the Epiphany" (О церк. Иерарх. Ch. 7, 11).
The same truth is preached by the third-century Christian writer Origen (in their journals, albeit incorrectly, but often also witnessed by Jehovah, for example: "Should You Believe in the Trinity?", P. 7). He writes: "The Church received from the apostles the transmission of infant baptism" (Ср. Догм. Макар Т. 2. срт. 340-342).
In the end, the uncertain Jehovah forbids the baptism of infants because of their own lack of faith.
The answer to this is given by Scripture itself.
In the Old Testament, children were circumcised for 8 days and thus received the "seal of God" without even being asked about it.
Anna, the mother of the prophet Samuel, promised God a child before birth and finally dedicated it shortly after birth so that she would not even ask for a baby (1 Kings 1: 1-28).
Even before he was born, John the Baptist, who was in his mother's womb, felt the grace of God and was struck by the fact that the All-Holy Mother of God had come to visit their home (Luke 1: 39-44).
The apostle Paul also writes of himself: "God hath chosen me from the womb, and hath called me by his grace; he hath revealed his Son to me, that he might give glad tidings unto the Gentiles" (Gal. 1: 15-16).
Thus, at baptism, the grace of God works most indiscriminately, both for adults and small children. As for their faith, it must be said that in orthodox baptism God baptizes. In carrying out this mystery, the priest is a weapon in the hands of God. The godfather, that is, the believer, is a witness and a godly believer of the baptized that he will be faithful to Christ and live according to the commandments of the gospel. At the request of friends, their betrayed companion was healed (Mark 2: 5), by the prayers and faith of their parents, their devilish children (Matt. 15:28; Mark 9, 23), and by the prayer of the centurion his slave (Luke 7: 1-10). ), As well as the baptismal prayer, the vow, and the vow to raise the infant in the Christian-Gospel spirit, the Lord allows the baptism of infants.
The baptismal rite has been performed by the Orthodox Church for 2,000 years, just as the apostles of Christ did in the first century.
