  • J. Krishnamurti - San Diego 1974 - Conversation 15 - Religion, authority and education - Part 1
    Summary:
    Q: What is religion?
    In the West and the East, in the world of Islam, Buddhism or Christianity the same principle goes on, worshipping an image which has been created. It is the human being that has created the image. Can the mind observe this phenomenon and see its own demand for security, permanency, and deny all that?
    Why does the mind divide life, accepting authority in one way and denying it in another? We accept the tyranny of a petty little guru with fanciful ideas and reject a political tyranny or a dictatorship.
    What is the importance of authority? What is behind this acceptance of authority?

    The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
    We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.

    7. I'm no longer concerned about being a so-called "respectable member in the community". I am no longer afraid to STAND COMPLETELY ALONE! For whenever you view a Krishnamurti talk, you are witnessing a human being who is not afraid of being negatively or positively JUDGED by society. He was absolutely FREE to pay full attention to his inner responses as well as the emotional responses of others. He was FREE to stand alone in finding out what was False (which simultaneously reveals what is True). But for most people, that is the greatest stumbling block. Because usually, people wish to personally fulfill their own egos by being highly regarded by their peers, as was the case with Dr. Anderson's student.

    "Like taking food away from a starving dog. ...
    ... Not of knowledge, not of time ... self-transformation eminently requires responsibility, not of any sort of knowledge." Thank you Dr. Anderson. You are the salt in K's messages.

    5. The Ego is mainly based on one thing: the "CONTINUITY OF ITSELF", period! To begin to be free of ones ego, one must face the Fact/Truth that my Ego does NOT want to be aware of itself. That is where I began 40 plus years ago on my spiritual awakening, and it was very scary to face that Truth. Anyone who initially says that they WANT TO UNDERSTAND THEMSELVES is lying to themselves.

    3. And, that is the typical reason why it is that most people don't go all the way with J.K.'s teachings; for the fear of becoming a "social outcast". Because, that means more to one's ego than anything else in the world -- even if it means destroying the world by going along with the authorities or leaders who encourage the society to do things that is not in their best interest of our Earth, our physical health, etc., etc., etc.

      They didn't understand, they didn't listen well. However, becoming social outcasts is preferable to adapting to this society where living in is unbearable, I don't know how people manage it. I still see them interested in making hypothetical speeches.

    6. All Egos are programmed to hide from themselves, because the ego is a "Child of Darkness" (aka, "A Child of Hiding from Itself"). For after you detect that you are only interested in escaping from what you are actually thinking or feeling, then that ceases, at once. Only then is one free to go ahead and dive deeply into ones emotional responses in ones daily living. Hence, I've witnessed this for myself. So I no longer feel compelled to hide from any thought or feeling that spontaneously arises throughout the daily challenges of my life. But the key to it all is to realize that my moral responsibility to the Earth and all of its living creatures is to face myself exactly as I am (regardless of how people in my community may (emotionally) feel or think about it).

    9. So sometimes I (neutrally) observe movies, TV or Radio Shows to deeply investigate the Ego. For the Ego is present in all forms of entertainment. They all give a clear demonstration of what J.K. described about the psychological Conditioned-Thought (aka, Ego). So when you see it, you can also see your own Ego's responses, as well. And then one can begin to truly learn or discover your own inner workings, simultaneously. Then one also begins to realize that your Ego is the same as everyone else. So there is no more division between "you", "me", "they" or "us". It's just Ego which divides and destroys for its own sadistic pleasure in order to "play at being a god". And upon realizing that fact, then J.K.'s teachings may begin to really make sense, all of a sudden.

    1. Interesting observation that Dr. Anderson made regarding his student that had communed with the tree and was for a moment without a conditioned "observer" when she was alone (without any witnesses or social peers to impress). But when she was asked in front of her classmates, "Was there an "observer" present during her observation of the tree?", well then she feared the collective peers' judgment about her that she would be viewed as being a bit odd, weird or abnormal, socially. Because initially, she had not emotionally divided herself from her awareness of the tree, since that is outside of the acceptable, respectable norm of social behavior.

  • @cyberval1
    @cyberval1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    2. If she had looked at the tree based on a self-image about herself and because of that would have psychologically projected an image about the tree, then she would have been considered to be socially "normal". Because you see, that is the way everyone is programmed to think and react toward any part of reality (including a tree). You don't ever want most people to think that you are crazy, right? And, that is what his student was mainly concerned about. So she destroyed her initial awareness and abandoned it in order to not offend her classmates -- so that in turn, they would not offend her ego, as well.

    If all of the aspects of an ideal are gone over in the mind with negating what is not true only the fact would be remaining so if what precepts are held by the ideal were true nothing would be lost

    Religion represents the ultimate moralistic family - the dominant father (who provides the family with safety and security as well as saves his children from hurt and harm), a submissive mother that bears and rears the children, and an obedient son that essentially walks in his father's footsteps (carries on the tradition). Their superstitions are meant to reward those who obey and punish those who disobey (just as a father typically does to his son in the family of man).

    Ignorance about oneself creates within itself blindness, deaf, and mute... then there is nothing this person can do , cannot even try, even curiosity is dead,.... Only obedience is lifesaver or haven....

    10. I particularly find a radio show entertainer who died a few years ago by the name of "Joe Frank" (there is a TH-cam channel with his name that his wife has put up to share some samples of his shows). Joe Frank had a unique art form that was very amusing. All of his shows are based on Egocentric scenarios. His stories encourage the audience to indulge in and feed ones Ego and embrace the pain and suffering that goes along with that indulgence. His stories are very shocking, outrageous, politically-incorrect and, above all else, they awaken your own emotional imagination, thoughts and feelings. Then, you can clearly see what J.K.'s teachings are pointing at with regard to ones conditioning. It's like suddenly seeing the Ego under full magnification. Then if you can listen with a sense of unbiased attention (rather than with any agreement nor disagreement) then you may come to discover the falseness about escaping from psychological pain in favor of seeking psychological pleasure -- and the hidden consequences for doing so.

  • @cyberval1
    @cyberval1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    12. It is not about satisfying the egotistical expectations of other people. Like the student who backed down while she was facing her classmates. That means that the Ego is a coward that is scared to fall out of favor with other people. For, the Ego mainly desires to be remembered and admired after ones death, as being A "SOCIAL SOMEBODY" in their own social circles. And that is the main underlying reason why people give their emotional energy to an image, bellief or ideology (and as a result, they BETRAY SEEING "WHAT IS" UNFOLDING IN ONES MIND IN EVERY PRESENT MOMENT). So may I suggest that you go check out a few "Joe Frank" radio Shows that are post on TH-cam. And, have a listen to them side by side along with J.K. talks, but if you mainly do it to Learn/Understand about the content of Ego-driven consciousness, then you might better see or discover what J.K. is really pointing at. And if you still can't understand, then that only means that you want to be a prisoner of your Ego. Thank you for your attention.

    8. So doing the righteous or orderly thing is always being sacrificed in order to feed ones own emotional imagination of "self-respectability". So when Dr. Anderson showed amazement of how his student could betray her pure act of innocence with the tree, that is because that is the true nature of The Ego within the human condition -- that is its falseness that most of humanity is shielding and protecting at the detriment of the entire world's survival. But, you cannot run after goodness or orderliness. For, those realities come only as a byproduct of carefully being sensitively aware of everything that is Negative, False and Ugly about ones emotional responses that breed images that distort reality. And you see, nobody wants to deal directly with all of that messy stuff, right? (that's a rhetorical question, by the way -- Lol).
