I know he gets a lot of flak for dumbing down the techniques to make it public friendly, but the end result is that instead of being a backwater martial art that no one knows about, it’s a world wide way of life that literally millions of people of all the skin colors can share together. For example, I don’t speak a word of Portuguese, but I can go to Brazil tomorrow and train at a dojo there because of the usage of Japanese terminology and the fact that Funokoshi spread karate to the entire world. So yeah, the loss of all the dirty fighting techniques in the forms are worth the result. And also, it’s not a total loss because of the Westerners using reverse engineering on finding out the original techniques.
