Handy tip my gardening friend gave me was to put banana peels into a water can or an old milk bottle with water, let it sit for a few days and then use that on your plants. It gives them the potassium they need without using a fertilizer or whatever. I did it with my strawberries and tomatoes last year and it worked quite well :)
Yay, a Shan vlog! Just what I needed, the gardening is so much fun, especially now that we're in winter. Thanks for cheering me up Shan, you're doing a great job!🌺🌿
Yay Shaaanxo uploaded another vlog! I already know it’s going to be a good vlog! Can’t wait to see the progress 💕 so happy to be able to watch this yay 🥰
Onions are a good companion plant for tomato, they help deter pests so that should work in your favour 😊 Also, Lettuce, Spinach and bok choy (leafy stuff in general) usually does better with less sun. They're prone to bolting early if they get too hot and too sunny. Seaweed/fish type feeds are bomb for sulky plants. And please always wear a mask when dealing with potting mix and/or compost out of the bag. Legionaires disease is no joke!
raspberries and tomatoes take forever!! the first year we planted our raspberries, we didn't get any fruit. the next year it flourished like crazy and we could hardly keep up with the fruit, definitely be patient! it'll grow like crazy eventually
First year my raspberry plants were in it only gave a few berries but this year it's going crazy and we will have heaps so i think they do better the longer they are established for
Love that you are gardening!! Would definitely recommend a little green house for the capsicum and chilli plants. The plants like basil and dill need lots of extra water to help it bolting and going to seed :) Great work tho looks amazing ❤
Aww Shan, gardening is SO RELAXING! This is exciting, thanks for sharing!!! Can you fence off your garden so Louie can't dig up all your hard work? Or put up a leash line that lets him run everywhere except to the garden? Love this content, Shan!
Love the gardening content! You are so cute! I love to garden as well. You look like you are having a ball!! Can’t wait to see how you go this season!! ❤❤❤
Get a veg pod you won’t regret it we use our garden and a pod. You will find that helps with the lettuce so Louis doesn’t dig it up. I use seeds in seed trays for lettuce so then you can rotate it by the time they haven grown you would of eaten you full grown lettuce. Also just another tip I was told about the stones just watch them with the plants as the stones can get really hot in summer so can kill the plants.
Not sure if Porter is old enough yet but you can get a kids grocery list and you stick on pictures of food items that they need to find. So he could walk round the supermarket holding the board and then pickup each item. Or get him a little trolley to push (if he’s able to) and put the items off his list into it. Failing that just do a click and collect for now whatever is easiest 😅
The 'hardy' lettuce. The dark one, that's Italian lettuce, it has a special name, I've forgotten. If you look at any Italian gardens that's all they'll have planted mainly lol. It's very bitter. Acquired taste? 😊

Magic eraser and or sugar soap should get the marks off 😊
I accidentally grew veggies from tossing scraps into pots. I started properly composting instead. Now my non volunteer plants are thriving and i dont have to care for surprise capsicum 😅
Egg shells are good for plants too and Miracle Grow to feed them! I love plants too and there is a YT from England she started growing seeds during 2020 and now she loves her garden has a greenhouse and plants all of her seedlings each Spring and she had no experience either we all have to start somewhere and it takes time to get used to growing things but it is so rewarding and will help Porter appreciate where and how good is grown as he gets older…it’s a great hobby at any age ! Everything looks wonderful!🌜🍓🥬🫛🍋
Gardening starts off as a small thing and before you know it you have a bunch of gardens and produce coming out your ears! My husband has tried to ban me from Mitre 10 because I just automatically go to the garden section out of habit haha! Such great fun though! Loving the new Gardener Shan era for sure! ❤
They make lovely saucers to catch the drips. I use them all over my patio and it’s a really nice way to save the surfaces from damage. Thanks for your reply!
yeah that could def be an option! i think if i went that route i would prefer some nice greenery or herbs that smell really nice on the balcony instead of veg but i'll think about it!
You had the room….. why didn’t you plant your “garden” in the ground? I have never seen anything but a tomato grown in a pot. My garden of the last 15 years is bigger than your yard I have all them same vegetables also more I have never laid straw lol
because we spent a lot of money on the retaining wall to get it how it looks - i didnt wanna rip up the stones and weed mat and buy lots of dirt and compost and fertilisers.... in case i changed my mind and didnt like/keep up with the gardening. plus i'll have to fence it if we decide to go in ground so lewie doesnt dig in there. also didnt know how that specific spot would be for the plants i was growing, so thats why the pots are there so i can check i like the space and check that it works well which it does :) def might do it next year or in a few years though also loads of plants can be grown in containers! def all the ones i have. i researched each one on youtube. theres lots of gardeners that do videos all about growing food in containers which is cool and good for people with limited space too

Very bitter sweet watching you guys have summer and us going in to winter😂 I love that you guys are going in to summer but I want summer too😭😂😂
Can relate about the not getting anywhere with young kids at supermarkets or the mall (not that I really go) 😂
Maybe you could try sprinkle pepper on the stones to try stop Lewi from going up there?
Most of the vegetables need to be planted in the ground. Best wishes!!!😊
Clicked the notification so quickly😂🥳
I love these vlogs ❤
Glad you are gardening. You really need a Greenhouse. Blessings to you.

Just be careful with the pebbles. they can absorb heat and cook your plants like the trees xx
In the UK they now sell Tomayo. Mix of ketchup and mayo in one bottle
Have that here in nz to

Magic eraser will take the marks of your wall.
I thought only my family called it plastic cheese 😂
Have you considered moving the edible plants to the balcony so you can easily harvest??
yeah i dont want to make a mess or damage the flooring though! it would get good afternoon sun but yeah
