Just a clarification on what happened - In the Swedish Melodifestivalen there are two ways to vote - through an app and by calling. Since the app was launched in 2015 it has become the main place for votes as it is free, while the phone votes costs money. Also, as it tends to be, most younger people use the app, while young children and middle age and up more often call in. This time the app crashed for some people and in order to make it fair the hosts of the show decided that no app votes would be counted, meaning only the phone votes were taken into consideration (how that is more fair, I don't know). This means that the artists typically loved by people aged 15-35 might not have gotten the result they should have gotten had the app actually worked as it should have. This meant that Omar ended up in fifth place, and only four acts continues to the next stages (two straight to the finals, and two to the semi-finals). Most likely Omar would at least have gone to the semi-finals had the app worked, which is sad. Another sad thing was that the host of the show is fairly new to hosting shows (he is an artist, and has also done some acting) and he got so much blame and hate for the mess that was the show, even though it clearly wasn't his fault that everything went to shit... Hopefully the next week will go better (there are four competitions, and then the semi-finals and the finals. The winner of the finals gets to represent Sweden in Eurovision song contest).
A lot of people criticize "moving like that" for being generic. Most songs in Melodifestivalen are pretty generic, since that is what gets votes in the competition usually. The last time when he competed in Melodifestivalen in 2019 he had a song that was very unique and creative compared to other acts in Melodifestivalen and he did not advance. He knew it was a risky song, but chose to compete with that anyways. This time he was probably aware that he could not be too outside the box of what people wants from an act in Melodifestivalen if he wanted a chance of advancing. In 2019 Omar was pretty hurt and I think he took it quite hard not advancing since his old band mate Felix had finished second in the big final the year before and the week before he performed "Om om och om igen" his other band mate Oscar had faced the same fate with a really good song. This time around Edvin was more upset with Omar not advancing than Omar was himself I think. Now he has more time to be on set for season 2 of Young Royals so it is what it is.
I was so mad about Omar not qualifying that I yelled out loud, almost cried (lol). Then I named my mello-playlist for this year '#OMARROBBED' instead of my usual 'Mello 2022' 😤
Yeah that sucks! :( I would have loved to see him go to semi finals at least! I'm glad he has enough on his plate not to be too bothered by it tho :) Thank you! I had a great time and even played some of Omar's songs ;)

The background light effects were too distracting. It would be better if it were stark with occasional flashes. That music festival never gave Omar much love.😲🙃
