- The deck building is getting there but why did we decide on such a big deck area, it's huge! The build is fun and it seems to be stable.
Check out our other deck building video's here:

What a team - thats you two and those wonderful dogs! Beautiful and sturdy job - well done!
I’m definitely asking Santa for a Gil for Christmas…….. I know I know… a Gil is for life not just for Christmas 🥰😂😂
Poor guy has to do everything, she can’t even keep the dogs away from him. WOW she can’t even do a couple of brick by herself, she has to have her daughter help..
Buddy and Winston proving once again that any job can take twice as long when they "supervise". 🤣🤣Thanks for sharing.
I had to like and laugh at this comment - exactly what I say all the time. Those dogs are so sweet.
You got that right!
Love the dogs and one took a nap on it Love it!!!
At the beginning of this journey, you said that you were planning on doing most of it yourselves. Seeing Gil in action all these months, it is clear why - the man has so many of the needed skills to do a renovation well!
I couldn't help watching your dog enjoying the newly laid groud cover. He was just inspecting that it was level.
Thank you for another awesome video. "Family Team Work ". Regards 🇿🇦 .
Haha, I know exactly what you mean because I literally stopped the video at that point to tell my husband how cute Buddie was being on the newly laid cloth. Funny.
Or doing his best to dig a hole for his bone 😂
Gil is really rocking those power tools! And his Measure Twice, Cut Once technique is a thing of beauty.
He will love that comment ❤️
@@theoldstationrenovation (Joan here). Well here is another one he might like - your husband is a solid hard worker and admirably so. Given he is not a professional tradesperson and given the learning curve on this huge project this has been for him (and for you all), he seems to not only have done his research on how to get the job done, but also the tools needed and how to use them. Kudos.
Bless Gil, he always stops what he's doing to give Winston and Buddie the attention they require, haha. I honestly don't know if I watch this channel for the station reno OR the dogs - only teasing ya'. Fantastic progress - rain gives a needed break. See you next time.
The dogs, they are such characters 🐶
Such a peaceful, private area. It's going to be wonderful to have a finished outdoor space to just enjoy a cup of tea, and watch the dogs sleep in the sun. And boy do those dogs demand attention! Aren't animals funny? One of our cats was meowing at the bedroom door for 10 minutes while I put away laundry.
Super funny, love them ❤️
Those Dogs are something else!!…I get watching them and their antics……I miss the blood sweat and tears your pouring into the deck build!! Thank you though
I agree with all the comments replying to Angela's post. This channel is Laura & Gil's and the content is theirs.
Please Laura & Gil create your own videos, knowing that you've got a huge number of satisfied subscribers. Everything is looking fantastic! 👍💗😊🇨🇦
May I suggest getting yourself a Circular Saw, rather that using that Jig Saw .. It would be easier and more efficient, plus it would cut your cutting time in half...
Work Smarter, Not Harder ...
Yes, I guess the jig saw is almost done for after that job.
06:47 I heard a story about a thea cup, limping back to the kitchen, crying "if he keeps ignoring me, he will not get anything from me again!".
The decking is looking good, well done to you both, can't wait to see the finished project.
Thanks 👍
Of course the dogs have claimed it as their own already
Great progress and I love how the dogs just interact no matter the work load!!!
Continued progress!! As always, thanks for taking us along.
❤❤❤you are doing great work do not for listen ,,to what some folks may write, the station work is coming on very well never forget how far the project has moved on so please give yourselves a big pat on the back your are doing great honestly ❤❤❤
That's a pretty good sized deck, certainly looks very sturdy. Will be a nice addition to your property.
I think so too! It’s huge, can’t wait to start on the cabin
Super craftsmanship! ❤😊
I have a thought about the Caravan but someone may have already pitched the idea. Create a simple exterior facade overlay and paint it to look like a traditional mid-century Railroad passenger car and then rent it out as an AirB+B at the Old Station.
Well done, that is one big deck!😊
It really is!
Good to see your tool stash building up as time goes by Gil 👍 I recall doing my decking - back aching job! If it’s not too late, you may want to knock some wooden stakes down beside the longer joist stretches & screw up to them to help stop bounce. 😉
Definitely building up the tool stash, enjoying it too 👍
Gill is rocking that tool belt...phwoar!..we need to see more of this!...just saying! 💪👍
Loving it 👍
Your dogs are just too much 😂 love seeing them! ❤
Drink your tea, man!
Wonderful progress, enjoyable video.
Please keep playing with the dogs…
All coming together nicely. 👍😀
Looks great. The new deck will look great. I'm just now having to replace the wood treads of the 5 year old porch steps of our Boston home with Trex -- the wood has rotted and failed after exposure to the harsh climate here. We did our best to keep it painted and it wasn't enough. I know wood is gorgeous. Perhaps you might consider a composite for your new deck.
You need a circular blade saw. So much easier
Another great video n as always love this channel ❤
Great piece of work. That will be lovely when completed.
Fingers crossed!
If you need a gift idea for Gil, maybe a circular saw or a miter saw. So much easier than a jig saw. Also I love how playful your dogs are. If I had left a cup of any drink out like that, my dog would have come, taken a drink and then she’d want her ball thrown. Like your dogs mine will have me throw the ball hundreds of times a day. You are doing a great job.
Thanks so much 😁
Great job. The dogs like it also 👍👍👍
You’ll have to put some of that garden fabric down somewhere for the pups.
excellent progress so far with the deck. Up here in West Scotland we also have got 3/4 nice days. Outside work is always perilous at this time or in fact at any time. Nowt ye can do about it . Up and at em. Later.
And the dogs want to have some playing time. But with this teamwork there's not always time to through a ball in to the bushes. 🙂
that's looking really nice. Don't know what you would do without the help of those puppies!
Me neither
Great job!
Kudos for using a jig saw.
Well done!!
Lots of hard work looks good
the deck seems to be a huge one... okay there is a beautiful tree too, and very nice that you spared this one, but it looks just like a soccer field sized deck in some angles...
Looks very nice.
Fantastic job, well done. It's almost a shame that you will be covering it all up. Looking forward to the next phase.😀
I love watching Gil working in fast forward, reminds me of a Looney Tunes cartoon!
How does it feel to not only be living in a trailer, but also building a deck where, 60 years ago, trains ran thru? I'd bet it would be interesting 😂😂❤❤
I really enjoy these videos, please keep making them!
Im sure living in a mobile home is cramped and what your building next will be extra space for your family which you will be using for the foreseeable future, its all tied up together,i love to watch any progress as it's life ,and i can't understand why people think they can complain, you carry on just as you are the only people that need to change are the complainers
I kept expecting to see the dogs knock over the drink cups at least once.
Your dogs are amazing 😍 thank you for another lovely video x
Good progress, looking forward to seeing it done, need some proper tools though
Hi Guys, that deck is looking absolutely fantastic, it certainly is going to be superb when it is finished, now did I see your daughters helping out? So I assume they had no school work to do? As for your two dogs they need something meaningful to do😃😃 best regards from to you all, from a Kiwi living in Australia, Les
Every job goes faster with the right tools. Skill saw is so much better for what you’re doing.
Are you putting in gravel on top of the weed clot?… & maybe cut the weed cloth a bit away from the tree roots. Looking good … & your subs are growing nicely 🤗
We put rubble on top, we have loads of it so might as well put it to use
@@theoldstationrenovation great idea🤗🤗
this may sound mean, the tree in the middle will be beautiful for a year or two but eventually you will come to hate it.
I would say you need more posts in the ground ads they are quite big spans
Question: Is building the decking for a Cabin essential to getting your new house done? Should you not be concentrating on the house?
7:17 Noggin the last Nogg …. In 😂. 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃💨💨💨….. Choooo Choo Cherwoooo😳😳😳😳😳
😁
When you are down at their level, dogs can assume it's because you want to play with them!
All the time 😁🐶😂
Coming on a treat call me thick the tree will it get water from underneath the ground ❤
Ah the weed cloth... Guaranteed to let weeds through!
You’ll should put a bench around the tree
Not meant as a criticism, but initially in your series, the time lapse feature was interesting. However, this time it dragged on. Small snippets would be preferable. You are doing a marvellous job.
Am I the only one thinking to take a swimming pool right where the original train line used to be and use original retaining walls as a decorative future?
No, we also think that. Hopefully in the future 👍
@@theoldstationrenovation Ha ha Nice.
How to frame-up to kill one previously healthy large tree. Cover the roots with plastic and cover the lot with decking so no water can get through to nourish the previously healthy tree.
Let’s see if it thrives, it grew over of membrane and spanned a wall, it’s a determined tree and we are using webbing and it’s in the gully where all rain water is directed, don’t think it will have a shortage 👍
I don't know how you're gonna keep that tree! It won't be fun building around it.
🔨🔨
How are your daughters liking your new home?
Just sometimes you need to stop to drink your mug of Tea! It looks like it went cold!
I meant the first one!
I think it did
Miss your regular videos 😢😢😢
Those joist hangers are about half the size I think they ought to be.
They are the exact ones recommended by the decking manufacturer so we should be ok with them, it seems really sturdy so far
👍
I've forgotten, what is the purpose of this shed?
What kind of wood is that? In my part of the world the structural wood is predominantly Douglas fir, which has a much more yellowish color to it than the one used to frame the deck.
What was Gil putting on the ends of the boards?
Shoot 4k 😊
Why are you building the cabin?? What is the purpose of it?? Wouldn’t your time be better spent on the station??
What is going to happen to the tree?
looks more like he did all the framing, not we.
I’m sure I missed your explanation….but….are you placing the guest house on the deck
I'm confused also. Why a cabin? Don't they have a caravan?
It’s going to help with storage while we are in the caravan but our main goal is that it’s a little garden pub 😁
Too bad your videos are not alittle longer, say 30 minutes or so.
Tootles😊.
Working on it! We have a few longer ones, want to ensure they are interesting
In Ontario Canada that deck is illegal. Nails must be used on the joists and hangers. Screws do not have the sheer strength of nails. Thats our building code.
Another ground force video 😢...
OK on your review for this video I’m going to give you a thumbs up but be cautious. The video is supposed to be about you guys refurbishing the train station the old railroad station for your home. I understand that you have land work that you want to do and other buildings that you wanna add to the land we get that but when you stop showing us what’s going on with the railroad station then we have to wonder what what is this channel really about so on the side of caution try to add more about what work is being done to the station as well as what work you’re doing to the other parts of the grounds around the station too.
We are currently working on the garden while we are waiting on the next stage of the station which is the steel beams to hold the structure up.
I find anything these people do interesting. Stop being critical. The restoration is all about the station and the land surrounding it. Give them a break please!
@@theoldstationrenovationTake no notice of pompous high handed comments. We find your videos interesting whether they are about work on the station or the land. Some people sound as if they are awarding you points out of ten. Carry on as you are please!
@@theoldstationrenovationI’m guessing these beams are being made to order.
Don’t listen to this person as most people understand that you will be working on all areas that will make the station your home that means building and garden… you’ve never pretended it would be otherwise.
“Be cautious”?! What a terrible threat!! People are subscribing and watching because all of the content is interesting - not just the station building! What a Keyboard Karen you are 😂
Great job !!! 😮
