I've been working on the shingle machines for over 17 years and I have no idea how much it will cost to me to do that faces of the shinglesit wrecks it for the entire industry to make it look great
Lloyd Thanx for this video! Ive been installing Wood Shingles here in coastal Massachusetts for over 30 years and G&Rs for the most part. They are the most consistent producer of excellent quality WRC and AYC Shingles that Ive come across. Its nice to see the actual mill in action and would love a tour. Watching the Sawyer reach over the trimming saw blade makes me cringe! I love the double chainsaw rig that trims the 20" bolts to 18". always wondered how they did that.
@mattski Thanks very much for your comments! I will pass along to Cliff Scott, the owner of G&R. Yes, he is an “old school” kinda guy, and still running the show, now well into his 70’s. I have first hand knowledge in the pride he puts into his shingles. I have been in the industry for 35 years and have seen many changes. G&R is a great example of a mill that maintains the quality that many of the mills are not willing or able to achieve these days. Disclaimer - I don’t work for G&R and offer this opinion based on my wide range of experiences with shingles and shakes.
When the blocks are spilt they should put knots at the edge because a little of each block has to be thrown away.So if the sawyer throws a knot away from the side of the block there's less waste.
I'm looking for some 1/4" thick sedar or any kind of schoolchildren for a house. I found some shingles but they arethicker than the old ones on this house. I'm trying to match

I've put up a lot of shingles, 'tho most from Washington. Many installed over 30 years & still look good.
You are getting great looking wood! Makes me wish I could get back in the mill.
I bet those guys are ready for a pint after their shift. That's real work there.
Well, I didn’t saw any shingles today but I’m having a pint anyway… they cut about 10,000 shingles per day. I have respect for those guys…

Excellent look at the process. Very professional.
that's some nice wood. what's your cutout like? our trainee sawyer can cut 7.5 square out of a pallet on block wood
That's brutal the trainee should get 15 to 16 square when on block wood
very good craftsmanship.......!
Nice grade n grain on these blocks

Tak oni vodku na rabote ne glushat!
They were 85 dollars a bundle 20 years ago , I hate too think what no1 cost today .
Around £200 here in the UK
Four bundles per square at 5 1/2" to the weather, triple coverage?
Yes, for 18" Perfection shingles. 5-1/2" is the max recommended roof exposure for the No. 1 Grade Blue Label.
Good sawyer, small splints.
la sécurité !!! ????
Для чего такие заготовки???
oblicovka fasada doma
safety is poor in this factory, lot of dangerous machines without any protection, looks more like Pakistan than Canada
It's only safe if you feel safe
