Thank you John for making this video. You have probably saved some lives. I realize you filmed on Lady Simcoe, and you are so right with soft spots, underwater currents etc. Many people are “monkey see-monkey do” and when they see others out there, they assume it is safe, even if the area is “ swiss cheesed.” Awesome underwater footage of the walking and drilling!
Very informative John Whyte. I also use those charts as a guideline before checking. One other factor to remember is Depth. Lakes that are deeper tend to take longer to cooldown as there's a much greater volume of water to reach those freezing temps. I know simcoe's whitefish grounds take some time to freeze, while Lake St Clair shorelines can freeze fast (but still need to be VERY CAUTIOUS).
Hey John, Tons of people out in Virginia, was wondering if you'd be willing to give us a report from there, love your videos thanks for keeping us safe, tight lines.

Great video. This should be watched by ice anglers every year.

I've never seen what we look like from below, would love to see what 6 inches of snow does to hide my profile
Thanks for the tips! Very helpful
excellent john. thanks.
Thanks for report 👍
Great info John!
3 more frozen nights, great video
1 inch of new ice in 24 hrs in perfect condition is amazing. I'll take that!
You trust walking on 2 inches with your aqua vu?
hello, if you have a swimming pool full of water, (Small body of water) will the ice form faster or about the same?
If the surrounding conditions were the same it should be the same.
@@timeonthewaterca thanks for your input
Can you do jackson's point please
I thought 4 was minimum to go on a lake
Yes for walking.
New sub here too.
I find it very interesting how imperial for your measurements but metric for your temp bud , pick a side ! Jk keep your stick on the ice :)
That's true. But it primarily gets viewed by a Canadian audience, and everything to do with fishing is still imperial, and temps are metric.
@timeonthewaterca how's the Ice on couchiching now? Will I be able to fish it soon!?
