I played this in the arcades and it was pretty good. I still mark out over hearing Cyndi Lauper's song being played during the game. It was the first time I heard licensed music being played in the background and this MIDI rendition here is excellent.
Yes! Goonies was released on the Famicom in Japan but was never released on the home console here but was released here on the Vs. and Playchoice Arcade systems, Goonies II which was sold here to the home market was the sequel to this game

For some strange reason they never made a console version for sale outside Japan. It was one of those coin ops with kung fu and mario.
Looks similar to Goonies II for NES. I'm sure that's not a coincidence.
