I hate to say it, but I think Jeff is right about two things. First, we've already blown through 1.5C and we're going to blow through 2C. Nothing can stop it at this point, unless there is some kind of miraculous technological breakthrough, like fusion energy, which can also be deployed rapidly (good luck with that). The other key issue, at least for us, is human civilization. Leave biochemistry aside and just consider how much our socio-political institutions are already groaning, and then consider to what degree (har har) human-caused planetary heating is a direct, if largely unacknowledged, cause. Then imagine it cranked up a little more, and then a little more, and then a little more ... We're in deep doo-doo.
