After building a crystal set using a 'Ladybird' book, I bough my first radio kit in the late 70s when I was a young teen. I do not remember the manufacturer, but it was 'A new Roamer 10 model RK3'.. It was fantastic, offering about 20 switchable bands. Modifying the ferrite rod coils allowed me to puck up analog TV, areoplanes, police etc. I love this series of YT videos. Thanks for posting them.
In the shot at time 22:50 I noticed in the red leads running from lower left to upper right a network of a resistor and other components. Is that a RMA (?) dummy antenna or antenna simulator of which I have read in older publications (c. 1948 or so) for injection of a modulated RF signal? If not, what is it? And I presume your "poor man's spectrum analyzer" is an SDR dongle or similar. How is it coupled to the calibrator? I have fairly little knowledge and lots of questions. I appreciate your indulgence. Also, thanks for the good videos - I like the explanations accompanied by demonstrations. Thanks.
Thank you for the amazingly quick reply. I've been looking for a schematic of these, but haven't managed to trip over one yet - just have to find the right source/reference. Do you perchance have such? From what I've garnered, these were such common knowledge items in the 40s and 50s that no one described them in the available literature (or at least that which I have found.) Again thanks.@@MikesRadioRepairRestoration

I used to own one of these along with its matching transmitter. It was pretty good. Then i started buying Hallicrafters with more band coverage and i needed a spot for the new radio. I wonder if ill ever see it on a video?
Can anybody guess what the next project is??

A trip down memory lane. I made one of these many years ago.
Hearing it come alive at 8:44 was very cool!
Very much enjoying your videos, I'm learning so much from them. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us and have a happy new year.
The Heathkit HW-16 was great for CW work, but it was no go on SSB.

Correct. RMA. The manufacturer didnt call for it but I prefer to use it. There will be a video at a later date regarding my poor mans spec. Cheers

Thanks for the Tutorial! The CWO stopped working om my National 183D . Any chance of you working on one of those anytime?
I dont currently have one in my line up. But your issue cant be a big issue I think. Join our help group and I will point you in the right direction.
First step, check V9 - 6SJ7 steel can tube. Has your unit been restored??

One quick question for you, what per cent tolerance are the blue resistors ?
1%
I went to the former Heath Store in Waimalu, Hawaii. I didn't like it because it wasn't as easy as Radio Shack.
So THATS what the 'cal' switch did! I thought it was some useless, unconnected thing inside.
CAL, as in calibration.
