The American & British forces taking part in Exercise Tiger were operating on different radio frequencies, which played very much into the hands of the attacking E-Boats on the night of the attack. Although the British had picked the flotilla up on coastal radar, they couldn’t warn the US ships in time to advert the carnage.

That seems unthinkable now doesn’t it, who would make that decision, surely if your on the same team you need communication! Did you know the story of the guy who found the tank and had it dragged out? Some fisherman kept catching the nets in the same spot and the guy was finding broken parts of vehicles and uniforms and there was no reason for it to have been there at the time… He eventually got divers to go to the spot the nets were catching and found the tank…. I’d bet there’s more stuff in the sea

I first read about this story in the Daily Mirror when I was young boy. I went too Slapton Sands and actually meet Ken Small, and he signed the book I bought from him, he kept finding dog tags whilst walking the beach, as he used to run a B&B near the tank. Amazing man.❤

You hit the perfect spot on the right day! That really is a beautiful stretch of coastline that stretches on towards Salcombe estuary....My great grandfather was a coastguard in that area and lived in one of the coastguard cottages near Prawle Point. His job was to patrol the coastal paths, which always sounded to me like a pretty good way to spend a working day! A very worthwhile look at those memorials too. Some really good content - Thanks.

The sad part of this is so few people are even aware of the tragedy that was 'Operation Tiger'....
Meanwhile normal service (rain) has resumed up here in rural Warwickshire so the bike is firmly stuck in the garage....

Ohh that’s interesting, I can’t help but think about the chaos and confusion this must of caused. How did they know they were actually under attack, as they were expecting live firing on the Exercise…. I guess not until it was far too late… Od like to get over to Normandy for some time and record some videos, that place is just mind blowing, I can barely get my head around what actually happened… Have you been to Normandy?
