  • Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss opens up about the hardest six weeks of her life, which saw the deaths of her mother, Kobe, and Gianna Bryant, as well as former NBA commissioner David Stern. Jeanie says she has found solace in the Lakers community, the continuation of her father’s NBA legacy, and remembering memorable moments throughout Kobe’s retirement season. Later, she speaks about the joy of having LeBron James play for the Lakers, highlighting the inspiration that his exceptional talent sparks among the team.

I am glad this interview was done. As a SoCal resident for 35 years, I saw Ms. Buss in the media, but never knew much about her. She seems such an authentic person in spite of her wealth and iconic place in LA sports!

Even those who knew nothing about basketball and the NBA knew about Kobe and that he was a once in a generation talent and a great human being. He was one of the very few NBA stars to completely transcend the sport and become a global icon. Gosh, even now it feels odd and painful to have to use the word 'was' to talk about Kobe.

I always think to myself how I was just a 31 year old Brit who grew up playing basketball games, playing a couple games on the court, was lucky enough to watch Kobe drop 30 against the Wizards when I lived in DC, and I was inconsolable for 2-3 days when he died. I just can't fathom what it must have been like for Jeanie Buss and the City of LA to have to go through something like that and come out of it on the other side. The shock of it all and the brutal reality of thinking "wait Kobe died in a helicopter crash? And his daughter?" An Unspeakeable Unthinkable tragedy.

@LJ_824 at the end of the day they were friends sure there was probably abit of competition(bravado)underneath all that as they among the best players ever.Kobe was a big reason Lebron came to the Lakers .I am a Spurs fan but the day I gained immense respect for lebron was when he said that speech when all us were looking for something after kobes death.I guarantee 💯 behind the scene lebron was helping people with his words in the Lakers building during that time .Anyways respect to you have LJ and 8/24 in your tag perhaps just reconsider your position and what lebron had to deal with as a leader during that time.
