Three wishes

At a nursing home in northwest Arkansas, 11-year-old Ruby Chitsey likes to go to work with her mom, a nurse who travels to several nursing homes in the area. And it was on one of those visits that Ruby started going up to residents with her notepad and asking them, "If you could have any three things, what would they be?" And so started a charity called "Three Wishes for Ruby's Residents." Steve Hartman reports.

When this young lady gets older she will be thankful that she spent time with the older generation and listen to them while they were still around. I'm in my mid-thirties now and it's just now that I am realizing how lucky I was to spend time listening to the older people when I was a child who are all long gone now. With them a part of history went too. I still relish time with elders because I feel it is a window into the past. My grandmother--my last living grandparent--died 3 weeks ago. I took responsibility for taking possession of all of the old family albums and other keepsakes she had collected. It hit me as we were cleaning out her house that I am the new keeper of the memories and stories that she told me throughout my life about her and my family--a responsibility I don't take lightly.
