thanks to the low cost of groceries and other basic services like personal-owned clinics, barbers, etc. I lived in such living conditions for some time during my late twenties. Although my budget was extremely tight, I managed to have eggs, chicken, pork and fresh vegetables every day. And the surrounding were safe enough so I could go out to exercises regularly. I am really grateful that I didn’t have to sacrifice my health even when I was poor. However, the elderly are in worse position since they are expelled from the workforce. I remember during the pandemic, economy were affected by frequent lockdown and there was a granny searching trash bins for empty bottles and paper boxes to sell for money. I overheard her talks with other people and she said she had to do it til the end. Apparently, the social security system hasn’t covered everyone in need. I didn’t have much money back then, the only I could do is giving the delivery packages to her whenever I had one or two. There were other people shared foods with her from time to time. But it was far from enough.
What I like about this is it’s not filled with tourists, it’s just people living there lives and I like that, you get to truly see what it’s like and it fascinates me.

Chongqing's urban landscape is diverse, with a lot of room for individual businesses to live in, you can find cheap barber shops in alleys or tunnels, and old people can even find a plot of land to grow vegetables due to the complex and undulating terrain, usually a small piece of undeveloped or unprofitable space after development. This is an ancient city, often called the fog capital or mountain city, which was once used as a companion capital, and the food here is also famous, such as hot pot. Locals often make you feel as spicy as the food, but they're usually friendly and have a sense of humor. Welcome to take a walk.
