  • The crossover (impulse step) is important to set up for the javelin throw. In this video I focus on the rhythm and timing of the crossover with a unique windup drill. Thanks for sharing and supporting this channel by supporting our sponsors.

    This couldn't have come at a better time for me! So close to 50m and looking to break that this weekend and I was having problems keeping my last crossover rhythmic and long. I will be drilling this all summer for my remaining meets!

    Hey coach halley, do you think you could make a short video on how to help recover from a shoulder/rotator cuff injury? Or any injury at all?

    • @coachhalley
      @coachhalley  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I plan on doing some future collaboration videos covering more of the injury and injury prevention of javelin throwing. I may do a couple sooner that talk about my own experience in the area though.

    Hi, really appreciate the upgrade on the mic. I like the ease of the javelin leaving your hand but I've a question about the arm movement, you almost don't bend your arm compare to others and I would love to know more about it, I have a elbow/biceps injury for months and it looks like an great alternative for me.

      Thanks for noticing the new mic! Definitely an upgrade! As far as the long arm, I had an elbow injury in 2012 and needed to adjust the way I threw. What you see is my attempt to reduce pressure on my elbow and distribute it other places. Now I try to throw from my hip and shoulder instead of my elbow. Long and relaxed. I may need to make a new video articulating that concept…. 🤔

      @@coachhalley it's a pretty clear explanation but I've tried and like most of javelin concepts, it's easier to understand than to apply. So I won't say no about a video.

      In case you missed it. Here’s another video about the elbow and arm path. There are drills and technical explanations in this video: Improve your technique to avoid elbow pain from throwing

    Sir I wanna ask you that is distance rated javelin matters in throwing distance like my throw goes 50m on on training javelin which has centre of gravity very much to tip of javelin and if I throw on 80m distance rated did it increase or remain same

    • @coachhalley
      @coachhalley  ปีที่แล้ว

      The distance ratings on javelins needs a video for sure. The ratings are slightly different for each manufacturer. There is not a real scientific rating for all javelins. All must meet certain specifications to be legal but the rating generally equates to balance within the legal limits, stiffness and aerodynamics. If you are able to throw through the point, you can throw a higher rated javelin without too much trouble. If you don’t throw through the point consistently, a lower rated javelin with more flex can help absorb some of the energy that may have ended up on your elbow or shoulder with a more ridged javelin. As far as distance goes, I recommend throwing a javelin that is rated 10 meters farther than your current distance. Men, no lower than a 60m and women no lower than a 35m. Too flexible is also bad as it doesn’t allow you to learn how to throw through the point as well. The feeling is often too mushy/soft. There’s more to it but hopefully this helps. Thanks for asking the question.

    never jump high if you want to prevent back injury... also you should get low to attack block from lower position and be able create lift

    • @coachhalley
      @coachhalley  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Too high is problematic and too low is also problematic. There’s a sweet spot that gives enough time to setup for the delivery phase and utilizing the block to create lift. Thanks for taking time to comment 👍🏻
