Thank you so much! I appreciate you watching too. Yeah it really is like a Swiss Army knife bicycle. I haven’t even gone down the road of front suspension and a dropper post with 27.5” wheels for trail ripping but loads of folks love that setup too. Truly a bike that can do it all pretty good 👍
@@jeremygoertz there's a guy (Stoked On Spokes) who has done the front suspension if you wanted to watch his videos or contact him for advice on what fork options you can go for. Swiss Army bike is exactly the way I think of it. There's a gap in what two of my bikes can do (both lower quality) that I'd like to replace with this one so I can cover a multitude of uses. Thanks for making this video. I hope to see more.
I showed my significant other this video and said, “See, I’m not the only one who does this.” 😄 Got some new handlebars in today and going to put them on my bike tomorrow! Really diggin your videos!
I have a KM running 29x2.6 tires riding singletrack in AZ and NM. Been shopping for gravel bikes, but most are out of stock and the price. Thinking of just getting a different wheelset running the smallest tires I can without BB strikes. Love the simplicity of these bikes.
Nice to know you could fit the rack at the front! KM seems to be, along with Steamroller, one of those surly bikes everyone owns or has owned. Maybe I will too.
It’s a weird thing. The advantage is often spoken of less maintenance, which is true. Also, it is slightly more efficient as you are not having to deal with the friction of have to turn the pulleys in the derailures and you should have a perfectly straight chain line. All of these add up to something I cannot notice and 70% of the time I ride a bike with one gear, it’s the wrong one. But, there is something so enjoyable about not having to think about gearing, just jumping on and pedalling. No matter what the terrain, or the wind is, you just pedal. Nothing more to think about. I don’t ever try to convince people to switch over to single speed but I’ve met so many people that once the try it for a little bit; they just get it. I will always own at least one single speed I’m sure. 👍
Don't build it as a S.S. The dropouts are crap for single-speeding; axle Never stays where it's winched; love Surly but, their rear drop-outs on the K.M. Need a COMPLETE redesign. (Found out the hard/annoying way during some cyclocross races in the recent past; royally pissed!)
I enjoyed this build! The bgm selection and your voice is soothing. Though I am more of a fixed gear rider and not a fatbike/mtb user, I am considering to build my own Surly in the future. Need to save up some money. Maybe after graduating college though? hahah...
Great video! I could watch these kind of videos all day long. One thing though.. How hard is it to remove the hub on the rear wheel? On some wheels, they can be pulled off without any tools. If you get a spare hub to mount the cassette, you’ll switch between single speed and 11 speed in two seconds
I just swapped again today. Honestly I have no desire for another km frame. Maybe a straggler, or a lowside, but I am happy with just a single km to go back and forth with.
I’m 6’2” and this is a size large. I wish I had waited for a XL but I wasn’t patient at the time. Having said that, I still have a lot of seat post I can use so it’s not too small.
It’s a cheap one from MEC that I believe is a 20º rise and is about 70 mm long. If I remember correctly. It all varies from person to person so I ended up using an adjustable stem until I found the angle that I liked and then just ordered one that was the same angle and length👍
I don’t anymore. I used to. But after I commuted for a few years by bike I just learned to embrace the pain. 😆 I actually found that very small adjustments on the riding position made a huge difference. 👍
Hahahaha right?! It’s crazy. I wanted to try it just because it was there but in reality there has been one time that I actually used it on a ride. Everyone else dismounted and walked up the small hill but I rode up. Probably not with having for my area.
@@jeremygoertz Yeah. Granny gears use is location dependent. But when you need it, it's nice to have. It's nice they now have the tech to allow for such massive cogs with big jumps so you can have just one chain ring. Much simpler.
That smooth jazz is what really tied this video together! Bravo!
Haha, right on. Thank you. One of the song was actually called bicycle ride so I had to put it in there 😆👍
First thing I noticed was.....Alway mellow voice was extra mellow with the jazz going on.
Love these bike maintenance and cycling videos. You've convinced me that a surly karate monkey is the bike for me. So versatile. Looks so great.

Hahaha right on. We must band together for the cause! There’s really nothing wrong with us.👍
I've enjoyed the KMonk' content on your channel for a while. Great stuff once again, bikes with a personality issue are the best bikes.
Thank you! Yeah they sure are aren’t they? Crazy misfits but we love them for who they are always trying to be 😆👍
I love this kind of bicycles they are so versatile! Currently I'm building a Nordest Sardinha 2, very similar to the Surly Karate Monkey.
Right on. I agree 100%. I’m going to look that bike up, it’s new to me 👍
Your videos are always entertaining.... the sound on this one was on point.
Thank you so much! I appreciate that. 👍

Right on. Yeah they are so versatile. I’ve thought about doing that too. There are some good looking versions I’ve seen build up with skinnier tires 👍
I really like that. N + 1 tells me I need a Karate Monkey
Thanks! They’re a pretty rad bike👍
I really do love this bike.. I think its time to find one myself so I can take it down to the breweries and for family trips.
Oh yeah, now that sounds like a great time!! 👍
Nice video, nice bike. Can I ask what music you chose? It’s so chilled. Thx
Thank you! I buy licensed music but I do not remember what this was called. Cheers👍

been doing the same with my Evil Sovereign. Single and multispeed for a countless time, depending on my mood lol
SO did you eventually go back to the front rack? I sure would have
Great entertaining video! What I do not understand is: why go with single-speed? Is there any advantage?

I've got a rear rack on the front of my Monkey, works great!
Right on!👍
Nice to see another KM owner rocking a Cambium.
Thank you!
Just do it. You know you want to. Just do it. Just get another Karate Monkey frame.

Sweet inner arm tattoo.
was that a crescent wrench!?
Cool video. Which frame bag is that you were using?
Thank you. It’s a Porcelain Rocket. 👍
Who else completely didn’t click that it was SLL until the grinder came out? 😂
Hahaha! 👍
Is it possible for you to do 1 for me this was dope
That would all depend on where you are located 👍

what stem do you use with the jones bars? Ive been looking for a good riser stem.

Jeremy I would love to see you max out the cargo ability on a gravel bike and take a vlog family trip. Just an idea for you. Take care.
I like that idea! Thank you! Cheers👍
who's stephanie?
Do you wear padded bike pants when riding, or am I just a wimp?

Where did you end up finding this to buy? I can’t find a bug guy size anywhere
I bought this 3 years ago before the world got flip turned upside down.

Another single speed? I hope you're not approaching s-1.
: )
I’m not savvy to what s-1 means but it doesn’t sounds that bad....🤷♂️👍
