Most people only buy it because they like the design, not to showcase that they like this youtuber. There's a ton of people that wear TF that aren't huge h3h3 fans. The only people that will ever buy James Charles' merch are his mega fans. I would definitely buy TF clothing, but if they used the same design and put H3H3 on it I'm never going to buy it.
Alan Braaa my point still stands plenty of people come up with great designs and never launch their own company because they can’t sell enough. They had their TH-cam base to get them off the ground, without it they would be like every other small time clothing company, being outsold by shitty TH-camr merch.

Stacy if I were Ethan or hila that’s all I’d want is an apology. Like a super simple one. It’s easy to say that either he or someone on his team made an innocent mistake
James could really turn this around and make himself look like a better person in 4 easy steps: 1) Apologize to Ethan & Hila in the DMs 2) Make a short video saying that he did not design it but obviously someone on his team was heavily inspired by TF’s signature hoodie. Express that as someone who put a lot of work into his palette, he knows how it feels to see his hard work replicated by other popular/big brands and its not fun. Hila & Ethan had every right to feel hurt by it. Etc. 3) Take the profits (just for that 1 hoodie) and donate them to a cause that both he and Hila support - maybe some creative arts program for kids/teens, for example, since it’s relevant. 4) Once it’s sold out, don’t make any more with that color scheme. I feel like Hila would really appreciate and respect that. She and the TF brand would get the credit they deserve. James would be setting a positive & mature example for his younger fans and fellow influencers without even having to admit total fault. Win win.

John Gibb - I get what you’re saying but I would say that color is a part of design, yes. And just because it’s a simple one doesn’t make it any less. But what separates this from a solid colored hoodie is that it’s a bold color combo that has become very well recognized and trendy. Also, I think that Hila put a lot of work into choosing the materials, the color of the stitching, the fit, etc. It wasn’t received that well at first but now that it’s super popular, James’s team just magically comes up with a very similar color scheme placed in the exact same spots... hm.

People have said there's a lot of shady business behind the scenes. If we just say there are 7 total colors to choose from (there are actually more but it simplifies this) and making a hoodie requires some ordered arrangement of 4 colors (left arm, right arm, center, hood and sleeve), then the total number of permutations is 7!/(7-4)! which is 840 possible unique arrangements. That means the probability of him making just one hoodie with the exact color arrangement as yours by chance is 1/840 * 100% = 0.12% . The probability of him making 2 hoodies with the same arrangement by chance is 0.12% * 0.12% = 0.01% ... it’s been a while since I took stats, if anyone can double check that would be nice!! It helps show just how impossible it would be for this to happen coincidentally.

I can see it with maybe a black hoodie, that everyone can make it, since most of the time the color isnt the main idea of the hoodie. It's just the colors they used on their hoody that James copied but yeah, since james hoody uses the same colors just slightly lighter and the yellow pocket, the court would throw the case away. Very little subtle differences are needed in products so that the companies cant be sued, its pretty ridiculous but yea that's the court system. Its kinda like how knock off purses/shoes are able to get away with selling fake versions of high end products because they make subtle changes so they cant get sued. Some knock offs even look sooo close to the real products that you can barely tell they aren't the real versions but they have tiny differences and thats why they can get away with it. So the slight differences in james hoody are more than enough for Ethan and Hila not to be able to take any legal action for it. Its really dumb but what can you do :/

The only people that will ever buy James Charles' merch are his mega fans. I would definitely buy TF clothing, but if they used the same design and put H3H3 on it I'm never going to buy it.

1) Apologize to Ethan & Hila in the DMs
2) Make a short video saying that he did not design it but obviously someone on his team was heavily inspired by TF’s signature hoodie. Express that as someone who put a lot of work into his palette, he knows how it feels to see his hard work replicated by other popular/big brands and its not fun. Hila & Ethan had every right to feel hurt by it. Etc.
3) Take the profits (just for that 1 hoodie) and donate them to a cause that both he and Hila support - maybe some creative arts program for kids/teens, for example, since it’s relevant.
4) Once it’s sold out, don’t make any more with that color scheme.
I feel like Hila would really appreciate and respect that. She and the TF brand would get the credit they deserve. James would be setting a positive & mature example for his younger fans and fellow influencers without even having to admit total fault. Win win.

John Gibb - I get what you’re saying but I would say that color is a part of design, yes. And just because it’s a simple one doesn’t make it any less. But what separates this from a solid colored hoodie is that it’s a bold color combo that has become very well recognized and trendy. Also, I think that Hila put a lot of work into choosing the materials, the color of the stitching, the fit, etc. It wasn’t received that well at first but now that it’s super popular, James’s team just magically comes up with a very similar color scheme placed in the exact same spots... hm.

What some y’all aren’t understanding is that Ethan isn’t just saying more people are gonna buy from him and he’s gonna steal their customers. What he’s saying is that because james has a much bigger following more people are gonna Associate the design with James instead of teddy fresh.

If we just say there are 7 total colors to choose from (there are actually more but it simplifies this) and making a hoodie requires some ordered arrangement of 4 colors (left arm, right arm, center, hood and sleeve), then the total number of permutations is 7!/(7-4)! which is 840 possible unique arrangements. That means the probability of him making just one hoodie with the exact color arrangement as yours by chance is 1/840 * 100% = 0.12% . The probability of him making 2 hoodies with the same arrangement by chance is 0.12% * 0.12% = 0.01% ... it’s been a while since I took stats, if anyone can double check that would be nice!! It helps show just how impossible it would be for this to happen coincidentally.
