  • The final four teachings of the Mahavakyas are the fundamental realizations of the original rishis. In the most dangerous spiritual book in the world, Dattatreya explains the secret knowledge of the Mahavayas and a practice we need to embody to abide in these four ultimate truths. In this episode of The Sacred Word, I will explain an important verse from the Avadhuta Gita, a text one is ready to assimilate after enlightenment. The Avadhuta Gita is for those who want to absorb themselves in the presence of the Ultimate Reality after awakening.

Yep. You can't be what you see. I like a verse from Aparokshanubhuti: "If a person knows that a tree is not his or her self, how strange that he or she identifies the self as the body…which is only an object like a tree." And of course this can be used with anything else, including the mind.

The Avadhuta Gita, a story so grand,
Tells of a sage who roamed the land.
He shared his wisdom, pure and true,
To help us see the world anew.
The sage said, "You are not just your body or mind,
But something greater, a truth divine.
Like the sky that's vast and always clear,
Your true self is forever here."
He taught that we are all connected,
In a universe that's never perfected.
By letting go of our worries and fears,
We can find peace that lasts for years.
The Avadhuta Gita, a timeless tale,
Reminds us that love and wisdom prevail.
When we look within and find our light,
We'll shine like stars, forever bright.

It has occurred to me that a life lived well will automatically bring you one step closer to unity. A life lived unwell will pull you further towards division the next time around the wheel. At anytime you have the power to stop the wheel by realizing what you just presented to us. Thank you Jason.

While a life well lived is important. I think that there is more to do than that noble aspiration. It’s possible to live a life well lived, but not get anywhere near enlightenment and or find the true nature of reality and finding a purpose and a reason to why we are conscience and alive. Just my two cents.

I can see the temporal nature of everything and the irrationality of chasing an ever changing goal post of ambition and greed that this world has turned into. Would like to know your thoughts on how does one manage to continue to be part of this world but still stay aloof. It's important to note that the term "dangerous" is used more as a cautionary label to emphasize the potency and depth of the teachings, rather than implying any actual danger. The Avadhuta Gita is considered a text for advanced spiritual seekers who have the necessary foundation, guidance, and readiness to engage with its profound wisdom.

there absolutely is an actual danger.
if you follow the path, it will lead to your destruction.

That's been my experience. I feel that if one is on a true path, there will come a point that, to the personal self, it will feel like a ripping. A true path (like Ramana's enquiry) is extremely dangerous for the ego.

I like "Neti Neti," Not That, Not That." But your Spiel is confusing for you confuse Awakenment with "understanding." The state of Awakenment can not be understood by the mind, no way.
You can read all the Vendantas and sutras and meditate on them till you are blue in the face, but unless you the EXPERIENCE of Awakenment (non-duality), and it is most definitely an experience, it can not really be "understood" or even intuited. You should make this clear, assuming you have had this experience. Maybe you need to redo the video.

It's beyond the mind, so it's not something you comprehend or "acquire." There is nothing to acquire, only lose, which is the self. For me, it was Dzogchen (Tibetan Buddhism) and the three statements of Garab Dorje. Of course, you have to do the work, meditation, mantras, etc.
