Finland ranks #1 in milk consumption per capita. The average finn consumes 430 liters a year.
For reference, UK citizens have about 230 liters and someone in Spain would have 164 liters.
Most commonly we have semi-skimmed milk (~1.5% fat), when I was young I actually drank so much of it that we consulted a doctor to make sure it's safe.

I personally think people can wear whatever they're comfortable with, even if they stand out, but I bet most of Finns actually think about what others wear, they just don't say it out loud to their face.
At the end of the day though, personal space and freedom is pretty big here in Finland. The silent stereotype of an expressionless Finn and them not bothering anyone without a real reason is an indication of that.

But would you be weirded out if your doc or dentist had purple hair? I think thats what the girl was trying to say. I know I couldn’t care less, but older peeps might still raise eyebrows. The priest at my grandmothers funeral had bright green hair and several face piercings, the elderly crowd mentioned it, but since she was so lovely, she passed the muster in their minds. I had pink hair for years, outside of compliments only really kids commented on it, usually out of curiosity.

@@janemiettinen5176 The strangest "looks" my doctor ever had was a handlebar moustache - I did think it was funny and I had some giggles in my thoughts, but I'm a typical Finn, so I'm confident in my abilities to not show any such emotions on my face. It did not affect my level of trust in the doctor, though. Purple hair would have not made any difference for me.
However, I do feel that Finland is a surprisingly collective society. Anything that's considered standing out is definitely going to make people conscious, but I think we're pretty good at not letting that show.
To be honest, I'm a fairly progressive kinda guy, so if people are more empowered to wear and look the way they want, maybe I could join in with a look of my own. The more aesthetic things that are acceptable the better.
Older folks definitely think and gossip about things such as hair colour and looks that differ from what they've used to, but like everybody else here they're not likely to say that to the person in question. I do think that's a universal thing in every culture and society, though.

Only time my silent laughter betrayed me was when my doctor looked exactly like an alien; think of a gray alien, upside down pear-shaped head and everything, change the skin to human and put human eyes in. Very striking, thats putting it mildly. When he appeared from his room, I let out a short “hmprr”, purely out of surprise, quickly caught myself, masked it with coughing fit and tried to be cool. Yes! We do really drink milk! A LOT! Even if you are lactose intolerant, we have a separate milk for you in which the lactose is already chopped into what it would normally chop up to in the stomach! And it isn't really that much more expensive either! But yes, I drink like maybe 3-5 glasses of milk every day! And usually in the beginning of a week I have like three or four of the 1 litre milk jugs in the fridge, and on Saturday or Sunday all of the milk has gone down my throat. It also has many health benefits ,compared to water: it has calsium naturally in it, and I think every Finnish milk producer adds some vitamin D in the milk to boost the absorption of calcium into bones to make the bones stronger, and that way you can, for example, prevent osteoporosis. But I think I'd drink milk even without those health benefits! It's so GOOOD!!!ðŸĪŊ😋

It looks like the shower is missing a shower curtain and a plastic window between the pipes. A glass of cold milk is good. We are taught to drink milk already at school and that habit somehow carries throughout life. I personally drink a lactose-free milk drink every day. Dairy products are used a lot over all. No need to buy bottled water, normal or carbonated, buy spring water which is actually cheaper. Maybe the children live at home with their parents because education is expensive in America. So the children stay at home longer.

It's also very common in Southern European countries like Italy and Spain that children live at home with their parents quite a long time. For instance 65 % of Italians aged between 18-34 lived with their parents in 2020. I have always had a good relations with my parents, but I moved away from my childhood home after I went to the army for the military service at the age of 19. After the army I started my studies at the university at the age of 20, and I moved away from my original hometown to the other town as well. Besides I didn't want to be some kind of "mama's boy" who doesn't know how to cook, wash own clothes and take care of normal daily routines like an adult.

Yes, I drink milk pretty much every day. I don't drink milk when I eat fast at work, but whenever I eat at home I always drink milk. I drink on average about 1L of milk every day.
I think I use more milk than an average finnish people, but probably not that much. It is pretty common that people here drink milk. It is usually available in most restaurants (even McDonald's offer to have a milk carton instead of soda with your meal), and pretty much every lunch place have these big milk dispensers (holding like 50L of milk at once) where people can get their drinks. So it is common here, very common.
Currently there is a downward trend of milk consumption here in Finland. There have come these new milk-like products made out of soy, rice, or oath that has captured a part of the milk's marketshare. It is no where near as popular as milk yet, but it is getting a bit bigger each passing year.

Some meals just ask for milk, like my MILs meatballs and mash or salmon soup. Just like spaghetti needs cola with it, or garlicky pizza is best with beer. I really like buttermilk too, but since my husband hates it, I rarely buy it. Most lunch places have both options, milk and buttermilk.

As a Finn I always drink fatless milk with my main meal of the day, and I don't really care about beer or wine. Otherwise I like to drink various kinds non-sugar added full fruit juices, coffee with cream, tea with milk, and Coca Cola Zero in a big class with ice cubes. Only if I eat at the restaurant, I may ask a big jug of cold water with a meal like pizza.
Otherwise I think the Finns don't want to emphasize their status with their clothes like how wealthy or educated they might be. If someone is a professor at the university, he doesn't need fancy clothers for his job.

the whole milk drinking and basically the huge consumption of dairy products here is due to a succesful branding and advertising campaign from Valio corporation (they even worked together with the government at one point to make sure that milk is considered an important food item in every day life) that's lasted for decades and now people think that you HAVE to drink milk even as an adult.
I think nowadays many are switching milk to oat drinks, I use oat milk in my coffee and hardly ever drink milk anymore.

My sister moved from home when she was 17 ( she did need some sort of special permission to move on her own since she was still under aged) and still studying and I also moved to my own place 12 days after I turned 18 went to army and school after that. We both would work to support our selves tho our parent's wold help us out in any way if necessary. For me it was just mostly that I got old dishes and cook ware to help me getting everything started without using a lot of money right of the bat. Well there is a reason why there are rail where you will put your shower curtain. It is not the purpose to spray the whole room wet while you go to the shower.
At the mornings in dreakfast people drink coffee, tea, coco, juice, milk or water basicly, I drink coffee and my kids likes to drink milk. At homes people usually drink milk in lunch and dinner. If there is longer period between lunch and dinner i drink coffee and kids drink milk with bread. And evenings kids want some thing to eat after dinner and it usually is some bread with milk. So yes! At least in my math as one adult and two kids consume about 2,5 liters of milk per day... Actually, i donÂīt drink milk anymore (not for over 8 months) becouse iÂīm on ketogenic diet.

Them three stripes will never ever look the same again: "The story of Karhu : The most forgotten sneakers brand".
