The street is in crisis, declining viewers, whacky storylines, no real draw factor anymore. itv cost cutting is also becoming obvious. Most of the newer actors don’t have the edge of their previous generations. I think they went wrong a few years ago with overdoing episodes air time.
Meh, legacy character but does nothing for the show now. Probably has quite a high salary too for the limited story she gets. The more empty shell characters leave hopefully the more fresh and interesting characters we get
She has probably gradually tired of the direction the show has gone in the last few years, saw what was coming this year and decided she didn't want to spend the rest of her life on the show anymore.
There have been grumblings for a few years now with the older cast members saying that they are being written out in favour of promoting the younger cast story lines. Maybe the writers can't see any value to keeping these older characters around? It makes sense therefore that many of them are wanting out. Who knows if Corrie will be around in 5 years time?
As I am an older viewer I mainly watch Corrie for its characters I’ve known down the years whose going to be next, Sally Dnyevor, Simon Gregson, I don’t to keep seeing different teenagers keep popping up
I'll be honest the fact she is doing stuff like Loose Women now tells me that this has bee4n a long time coming. I just hope it is of her choice rather than being forced to leave but I truly think this is down to Helen's departure and not because she feels its time.
I believe this would have been her own choice. Sue has made some positive changes in her life and wants to do something new while still young enough to enjoy it. I'm not sure Corrie can afford to lose too many 'iconic' characters though. I just don't care as much about the newer characters like Betsy, Lisa, Daniel, Bethany, or Daisy.
I think most of the character's have just run their course. They've introduced incredibly weak new ones. A lot of the older characters have a ridiculous number of storylines.

I am sorry to see her go, but to be honest, she has been looking a little lost recently. She is always in the pub or at home you don't see her working in the cab office anymore. Shaun needs to go. He should have gone ages ago, to be honest, he serves no purpose!
I'm not being funny but she has been one of the most boring characters I don't know how the hell she got 25 years out of this I have not enjoyed her at all doesn't help she's unbearable to look at woman can simply not act It must be so easy to get jobs on them shows because it's not like you need to be able to act clearly

As you no both popped in around the same late 80s was it 86 sally and 88/89 Simon.
I would say Sue Nicholls is next she looks old and tired and with Gail gone could be the final straw.
