"This disorder does not define you." Dear Hannah, Just tonight I was thinking myself worthless because of my OCD and I found myself thinking and rethinking something my first boyfriend told me "Your disorder does not define you," he'd said. Tonight, I was crying because I refused to believe what he's told me. That I heard you say the same thing in this video tonight is a miracle to me. Thank you. Maria, Princess of Connecticut
Can't agree more about how isolating OCD is. I mainly have intrusive thoughts (I've gotten better over they years) and I pick my skin. I've come to the point where I rarely let my OCD bother me and just try my best to live my life. I'm going to be a foreign exchange student next year and I know this is going to be the greatest time of my life. I won't let my OCD stop me from doing what I love. I looking forward to the new set of challenges and strengthening myself even more.
My OCD started when I was 8 but I didn't realise I had it and started seeking help for it until I was 16 because society fucks you up and I believed my compulsions were just 'bad habits'. It is really shitty but it can get better! Mine has improved in the last 8/9 months and I have achieved things that a year ago I thought were an absolute impossibility. I'm so glad I found your channel! X
Glad you're making progress! i just had OCD about being gay and that just drove me crazy. thing is i've been into girls my entire fucking life and i was straight as fuck and realizing that im might be actually turned into a gay person just fucks my brain up. i keep resisting these ideas like "im not fucking gay" but there's something in the back of my head keeps telling me "your gay just admit it and you'll be fine!" it's just an awful thing to go through!
Over 25 years of grueling overlapping multiple type OCD intricately interwoven. A few months ago 16 1/2 hour shower became a wake up call to kick OCD's butt forever! Hannah, you are a great inspiration for many people here, and in my opinion a natural in front of a camera. Stay strong! :)
Really great video, Hannah! It's great to hear someone else talk about their OCD and see how much I relate. I'm currently swamped in finals week at college and OCD is really really hurting me. But this video helped, so thank you for that.
Hannah i liked your video ! Im going through a struggle with ocd right now. My hardest thing is letting people know i even have ocd and might be my most stressful part of my ocd so i really admire that you are so open about your disorder:)
Ahh, this is amazing! You're so personable. :) I have OCD, too, and these points have been helpful to me. I'm going to share this so maybe my friends will understand a bit more. :)
The way u describe your ocd is very similar to mine. Most people think having ocd is nothing more than wanting a clean room or Washing hands. Although that is a part of ocd it is just scratching the serface. I too, am wasting time always doing rituals and it sucks. And even tho I had this my whole life I am sorta getting better on dealing with these intrusive thoughts. Anyway I just wanted to say I relate to you. and I'll probably over think this paragraph I just wrote cause that's ocd'ish as well lol.
Dear Hannah, I liked your video. I thought you seemed like an intelligent interesting lady. You said you used to feel like the only person in the world who had OCD. I used to feel that way too. I could also relate to what you said about you can’t limit yourself. I have a saying, “If you doh’t try you don’t get, and if you don’t ask you don’t get.” I thought you might appreciate that. And I could relate when you talked about how OCD made you feel like you were in prison. I felt that way too. Stuck in the bathroom for 9 hours - need I say more? We have that in common. I would like to tell you about myself and would like to know more about you. One thing that helped me a lot with OCD is that I have a green belt in wai chi wu karate. It’s a great thing for anyone with a disability. It has really helped restore the confidence that OCD took away. You might want to checkit out. I sing in a punk band. I’m into rock and roll music and drag racing. I volunteer once a month at a homeless shelter. With my music I have raised $500 for the OC Foundation and $1400 for the disabled and for homeless veterans. My name is Cliff Dublin and my band is the Antichemical Straight Jackets. I even wrote a song about OCD called “Ya I Got OCD Don’t You Pick on Me.” There’s a video that goes with it. It won fourth place in the OCD video contest last year. Here’s a link to it. th-cam.com/video/B234dJoN6HQ/w-d-xo.html I hope you like my music. I would like to meet you if you are interested. My email address is CliffDublin@gmail.com
What I liked about it is..you are not making it sound like "So I have OCD .How you can "fight" it. (so people like to use this word) How you should treat OCD (if I wanted to know that,I would be probably reading stuff on the web ,which I already have,as if reading my college stuff is not enough :P ) ... The message I get is " Ihave OCD.So be it. Best I can do is laugh about it .I know it would not be easy.In fact,it might kill the shit out of me ,at times .But it is not insurmountable. I can still find my way through it." .. thanks for keeping it light and funny ,not to mention being incisive ,blunt and meaningful.
Blood sugar ? i had intrusive thoughts, loaded on sugar and they went away. 3500 calories from coca cola and orange juice , its not healthy but it works !
Can u explain how your anxiety feels when u experience it, and are there certain things that trigger your anxiety: jobs, dating, etc. Are you on antidepressants? I've read about some anxiety drugs that are not your typical antidepressants or diazepams; have u heard of these drugs? Anyway, I'm more concerned with the anxiety, but everyone just talks about the rituals. Thanks.
