I've never made a pattern before but will try this. Could it be used as a base to do other styles of trousers after?

Thank you, I can't stand lots of talking when it's not needed! I like to get to the point haha.
As long as the trousers you make are loose fit then yes, you could add darts or pleats and put them on a waistband too.
I plan to do a fitted trouser tutorial soon too.
