  • The Bonsai garden of Michael Hagedorn (aka Crataegus Bonsai) is a tranquil place and is absolutely wonderful. Michael introduces several of his Bonsai trees in this movie.

I love to see his stunning garden and Bonsai collection in this well made video ! I admire and applaud his use of indigenous species and his none- potted mos covered Bonsai are truly unique! Great guy and wonderful Bonsai!
    Cheers,

Damn I absolutely love your collection. Like you, although in Australia, I am drawn heavily to the colder climate tree environment, mountains, conifers/pines etc . This is strange because I live in the city of Sydney and the mountains are 3 hrs away but nevertheless I am drawn to and dream about the trees and environment in those places. There is something special about those places, particularly in Australia with so many beautiful natives, the fungi, mosses, the towering pines, smaller acacias and gums, the intricate relationships between all these things that show us nature and it's magical ability to talk to you and express life/movement in through our minds into our hands to sculpt these bonsai. I wish when i was younger I had of moved up into the mountains and built myself a small cabin to live in and study these places more intently. It's one thing about life I wish I had of cared more about when younger, now I feel I will pass on and have missed of what really mattered...nature.

I really like the proportions of the mountain hemlock; the height of the trees gives me the sense of being in a forest in the northwest, unlike any other group planting i have ever seen.

Don't take this the wrong way, but your Bonsai videos are super relaxing. Woke up early at 2am, and I think I just found a new way to get back to bed, but in a nice way. Don't think I'd have the patience for this hobby, but I'm glad you do! Beautiful!

I read Michaels post about not pinching junipers last year and decided to put it into practice. Although I've been tempted to intervene at times, for the most part I have restrained and the results have been fantastic. Turns out, they don't need any help on my behalf to backbud, they're doing it on their own, and quite vigorously at that. Thanks for the post and I strongly recommend trying it.

Beautiful. I always love looking at other's works. I can barely keep mine alive much less work on form. All of mine are very young, and fall is now coming, nights getting to the 50's. It looks as though many i are in distress. probably try to restart a few more young ones in the spring. I just hate loosing trees every fall.

Bonsai Empire - Another lovely bonsai video- thank you for sharing this!
It is a bit difficult to see the trees against a busy background, however. If your equipment allows you to control the depth of field, have you tried keeping the tree within the plane of focus and letting the background go 'soft' and out of focus- to provide visual separation between the bonsai and the background?
Again, thank you for sharing your superb videos.

id have loved to have seen the hemlock planting getting created! do the roots ever come through atoll?
is it clay you built the base up from round the edges? iv just made a slab for a load of sycamore trees its all cured and ready to plant on! iv not really done one before just rock plantings, i have seen them on here using bags of clay!

buy one at a nursery or if you know someone who has their own land and can spare a hemlock or two, get to digging. Provided they survive the procedure, don't bare root them, just put them in a container with pure lava rock, and DO NOT TOUCH FOR AT LEAST FIVE years. Just water and fertilize.
