  • DIY Duct Tape pull tabs on your compress gauze, Combat Gauze, Celox, and other packages can make them easier to open while under stress. Under stress your fine motor skills will suffer, making some of these packages hard to open.

    I would definitely write "PULL" on the duct tape. Obviously the person who put the tape there knows what it's for, but someone else who may have to use it may think that the duct tape is there for some other reason in the heat of the moment, causing them to not be as quick with getting the packaging open. Some Sharpie should clear that possible issue up fairly easily.

    Great ideas to give the trauma kit a " tune up " ! Personally , I replaced the silver tape with red tape. Stands out more.

    Great tip that I have applied to all my packaged items. Blood is very slippery. Plan ahead to minimize precious seconds.
    Thank you for the time, effort and dedication.

    Fantastic idea. Besides your hands being wet for whatever reason this would work great under high stress situations when your adrenaline is flying, for instance if you have to treat a massive trauma wound on your own body. Or if someone that has never encountered major bleeding this will help them open the package as well as they might be suffering a bit if shock.
    Fantastic

    I really like this idea. Especially for members in your family or in a group that don't handle stress well and lose fine motor functions when they freak out. If you used red or orange tape it would even be a visual cue for them.

    This is a genius idea! The other day my department held an active shooter drill and this was an issue for me. Definitely something I'm going to try!

    Awesome idea Skinny. I've been in the industry for over 33 years and never seen that before. Looks like I will have some fun doing this to my own kit contents in the morning. It would save me heaps of time especially as my eyesight is not what it used to be. Now, I'm sure that it will work on candy. Looks like I need some practice first before I start on my kits. Cheers... Brad

    Really good tip Skinny. I'd say even using a grip tape that has a bit of a sandpaper feel to it. Or would that be too much an just mess up your fingers?

    Hey Skinny, first off, love the channel! Second, I'm a high schooler who's started carrying a small trauma kit in my backpack for obvious reasons. Have you ever heard of anyone getting in trouble for having QuickClot in a school? I'm probably going to check with my school nurse on it, I just wanted to know if you've heard anything similar

    You could prob go with a single layer of gorilla duct tape. Also if you just used one tab it could be pulled either way by just flipping over the gauze. Left or right. Time being critical prob better to do both I suppose.

    I'm concerned about how bulky the tabs might make my ankle-mounted kit. I have a cutting tool, with a curved-around blade, so it's very difficult to cut anyone, me included, by accident. I'll try going with that. May need it to cut boot laces, clothing, etc., But these duct tape pull tabs will be great for supplies in my car's trunk. :)

  • @LtThompsonCS
    @LtThompsonCS 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wouldn't it be easier to tape the 3 pieces of tape together first - then attach it to the plastic wrapping?
    Moreover, is there a reason to not do this?

    • @KimberlyGreen
      @KimberlyGreen 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easier to fold one layer of tape at a time. Three layers of tape will have more rigidity and resist folding more. Also, the layer on the outside, as it's folded, will have a slightly larger curvature and tend to pull back from the edges to compensate. That will make the other layers kink up slightly.

      Ford vs Chevy

    • @scream370
      @scream370 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Quickclot uses "kaolin" which activates the bodys clotting cascade via factor XII. Celox uses "chitosan" which leads directly to a clot without the clotting cascade (via sind electrical charge mechanism). They both have their pros and cons, Celox is more effective on hypothermic patients and on those with blood thinners in their medication, while Quickclot has a lower potential for allergic reactions. Both seem to be equally effective (see www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23883900)

      QuikClot also binds blood cells together like celox so it's not completely reliant on activating factor XII.

    You can also cut the existing notch, slightly larger & deeper. Just don't cut to far into the hot seal, or your contents will no longer be sterile & sealed.
