011 Double Flow Obsidian Biface - Direct Percussion Flint Knapping - Another Helmet Nodule

  • This type of obsidian is often called Bi-Flow, or Double Flow. I think I called it midnight lace in the video at some point haha. Whatever you choose to call it, it’s beautiful stuff.
    Technique: Direct percussion with a copper bopper
    Material: Double Flow Obsidian from Glass Buttes

    It looks like most of your obsidian is surface collected. Do you ever dig it up. To me the obsidian out of the ground usually has less flaws & is easier to knap. Maybe I wrong or maybe I just like digging in the dirt.

      You’re correct, much of the surface material is banged up or freeze cracked. Everything I got from glass buttes was surface finds because I did a quick trip and didn’t have time to get in the dirt. I like knapping surface finds because if it breaks I can blame it on the material having flaws 😉

      Thank you! It was a set of 5 from eBay but I can't remember which seller I bought from. They're lead-filled copper boppers.
