Love trains. Took one from Calif. to Chicago to Dayton, Ohio. Back in the 60s. I wasnt even 10 yrs. old. We had so much fun. My parents wanted to see the country.
Thank you! The rail is fun because you'll get to see other parts of the terrain in contrast to taking the interstate roads. Also, you get to see many trains coming and going at the busy stations. The only grip I have is that if you don't get a room it's bit hard to stay comfortable through the nights in the seats. Oh be sure to take ear plugs, sleeping mask and extra pillows!
I totally love this video. I've had this same view twice coming home to Albuquerque from L.A. via Amtrak Southwest Chief and both times wished I'd had a video camera to record my departure.. This brings back some great memories. Thank you so very much for shooting this video and sharing it. Now I know where I'll be going this summer and how.
I rode this section but the Chief only to Fullerton, but i took a Surfliner to LA from Fullerton, definetly remember that Flyover, it was less than a year old when i went over it
Lov it, I have done vids from the back b4, nice. I was in LA only once by train, we left at 8pm in Feb, it was already dark, so this was cool to see what I missed at night.
I love this. Brings back such memories of working in Mission Tower. Seen at about 2.48 behind the metra train coming in. Got shot at there one time. Used to line up the trains coming in and out of Union Station, UP, SP, Santa Fe up and down the "river". Then at about 12 minutes going by Hobart Yard, worked at the Santa Fe office there. Good Times, Good Times.
I'll be making this trip once again this summer when I go home to LA,then back here to ABQ. Wish the train left Union Station earlier in the day, especially during the winter. Awesome views.
Sentimental 'Road Trip' for me. I remember what incidents happened about ever milepost. Deaths, wrecks, fires, suicides, etc. It's a lot safer now days. ATSF/BNSF retired 2015, after 37 years. No injuries, no 'OP's Test Failures, no 'Suspensions', no discipline either..... and.....you won't believe this....But.....BNSF Vice President Rob Reily hosted my 'Suprise Retirement Party'. AND, I made it OUT WITH ALL of MY LIMBS Too ! First started with the railroad with the Penn Central in Toledo Ohio in the mid 70's but I didn't last long acct I'm very Native to California. Had never seen those violent lightning storms before and my first time I was sure that THIS IS the END of TIME. I was 19 then. A little more than that now. 'At ANY TIME, ON ANY TRACK, IN EITHER DIRECTION !" Made me well known. . Thanks for reading my post !
All I wanted was to take a train ride but after listening to 2 minutes of these announcements I'm wondering if we're also carrying 100 tons of plutonium.
True! I have never been on Amtrak. I have been on Metra (a metro railway service that branches out of Chicago union to various destinations in Northeastern Illinois). Airplanes are nice because one gets to see the city lights glow from cruising altitude.
what a neat place with all these tracks I want to study maps were they all go and all those net bridges is this the same track trains uses going south to San Deigo/What a neat place
For all of those who are complaining about this and that, if you don't like it, then go in a bus , ( Good luck with that ) or drive your own car , these employees are only doing there job , and for me , they do it very well , sometimes they don't get to see their families for days, so stop complaining.
Yes, they are a lot of fun. Just don't be surprised if you find it tough to sleep on the train(that I found very tough to do in coach), and where upgrading to a sleeping car might be a good idea if you can afford it. Bonus if you do that, is you get all dining car meals free. The legroom is not as horrible as it is on a plane, but even when you push the seat all the way back, I still struggled a little bit to sleep on the train.
I made a month-long Amtrak trip this past September, including LA, New Orleans, New York City, Boston, Chicago, and Seattle. Los Angeles Union Station is incredible. It is worlds ahead of Penn Station in New york City. LAUPT was an absolute joy to travel through.
@@derekdestep40 yes they are, but if you are taking a long day trip and get hungry, it is rather costly, but then most places are these days. I would still take the train if I was going somewhere

It must be an Amtrak employment prerequisite to sound like an indifferent and bored civil servant who should of retired 3 trips ago whenever one grabs the mic to talk on the PA - I get the fact that this is a job and the routine prob gets old but come on, these guys need to put a little life and character into their voice when they make announcements. They all sound like bitter Ben Stein clones. Jose the dining car attendant sounds like he wants to jump off the train.
Amtrak employees are unprofessional, lousy, sloppy and they don't deserve any govt money. These employees should be happy that they have a job and should do their job with utmost professionalism. But they don't . They are just same as the employees at your local post office. Why can't these employees wash their glass windows and keep it nice and clean every day. Robert Orlando Blea gosh I’m late on replying, but thank you for the kind words. It’s great to share a memory many other families have.
I took the SWC from LA to Chicago last December, what an amazing journey! Booking it again for this December, too... can't wait!
Awesome! Thank you for your comment. It makes me happy that others enjoy or can take a break by watching this video.

There are videos of the outside but its nice to see a view from the inside. Thanks!!
Ive rode a train from Los Angeles to Oakland and back to Los Angeles. Nice ride along the Pacific coast.
that’s coast starlight
I'm departing on the Chief tomorrow heading for NM.

No problem. It's always fun taking the train to LA.

Great video.
But then, there's nothing more fun than leaving Los Angeles.
LOL!
We were sitting in the last car in the last row and had to take advantage. Thank you for watching.
I plan on takking that Train to Arizona from LA
the southwest chief is 48 hours in 2 days from LA, to chicago.
We rode a few weeks back and it was great to skip the driving. Hope you had a pleasant journey to NM. :)
Forget the rest of the video... those dinner entrees at the beginning were EXPENSIVE AS HELL!!!
They're included when you go Sleeper Class.
More expensive than McDonald's. Less than Ruth's Kris Steak.
Better bring your own food.
I hope in june i hope to ride amtrak from slc ut to lax train depot. For days visit with my neice and boys 8 days then leave lax back to slc ut

There was a lot of Amtrak reefers in storage off to the left
I didn't do anything beyond a normal recording setup to get the announcement. All of it was shot using a Flip camera with no extra attachments.
Couldn't help but notice all the new signals turned sideways just waiting for their day of installation!
You can tell which trax has been abused by the heavy freight cars and you can tell which trax have been updated for passenger speed and comfort
Ive only taken two trains the coast starlight from los angeles to seattle and the crescent from new york to Atlanta
14:34 cool war bonnet unit
Very nice video. Great job.
How do you stay comfortable and sleep restfully in just the normal coach seats? I don't think I could handle that.
No. This is the SW Chief. The CONO runs from Chicago to New Orleans
I loved your video! Good Job...keep it up!!!
Wow, What a great video! Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed your video very much!

Dinner on Amtrak sure is expensive. Just an observation. Have a great weekend and 4th of July everyone
Good video, is there a part 2 to this video?
All the way to Chicago?

lots of intermodal, warehousing and trucking for miles
I LOVE UR VID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm obsessed with Amtrak because I'm going to Chicago on the 18th of Aug. Are the rides cool and fun?

Was this the city of neworleans
How the heck did you get such a clear audio from the announcement? Every time I am on a Amtrak train the announcements come out garbled.
L.A. Union Station does look a bit disappointing, doesn't it.
Yeah it does, especially being that it's in the largest US metro area. I've always liked Bolonga, Italy rail station.
You wouldn't think so if you actually went inside L.A. Union Station. It is frankly awesome.
Nick Papa Your right. Bolonga is beautiful. So is St. Pancras Station in London. By the way... New York is the largest U.S. metro area.

why'd you call it LAX? is it a flying train? amtrak airlines via KLAX to KORD?
This train's route is from LA to Flagstaff to Albuquerque to Chicago.
and goes through the little southern Colorado town of Trinidad, where my dad grew up!
Hey guys did you like chevrolet blazer
How are you supposed to remember all that information in the beginning ?
NordikFilm
NordikFilm Don't worry. It's an "Open Book" test.
How fun! Thank you.
When do you switch to the track heading east? This looks like the track heading to San Diego.
Robert Gift it is the track heading to San Diego. There's a switch right after Fullerton. That's where they switch.
COLEMAN dock ferry terminal 801 Alaska way Seattle wa
hi what car were u in ? looks good
me encantan los videos de trenes
thumbs up for f59phi's 450 and 453!
This was taken at the Los Angeles, CA (LAX) station.
I loved taking this train before. You do have to take a loan to afford the meals tho.
Meals in sleeper or roomette meals included

Yes cool😊
Wouldn't that be Las Vegas, NM?
yes
I sure would like to be on that train, although LA doesnt look like a pretty city.
@meerkatmandude It most certainly be nice to have Chicago but I don't have one. Hmm maybe I can link one from here.
Las Vegas, AZ lol If you want to pass by Denver or Salt Lake City, take a train headed to San Francisco.

Good
Just one...this is really bad video labeling. Union Station is NOWHERE NEAR LAX. Union Station is in downtown LA, while LAX is right by the beach.
