I finally found it.
I've been trying and trying to find a version of this song...somewhere...that touched a different and more gentle place than the original, which I do truly love as well. God, this rendition breaks open the heart even more with a song already possessed of that power, and carries it to an even more transcendent place. Philip, THANK YOU for this.

According to a 2007 comment on a song meanings site: "To quote John Denver himself, ""Annie's Song" is my most popular song around the world, if not the most famous. It was written after we had been through a particularly difficult time and had come together again, in many ways closer then ever before. We really felt together and much closer from the experiences we'd been through. One day I was skiing, and I'd just finished a run that was totally exhilarating. I skied right down to the lift, got on the chair, and was off and up the mountains again, my thighs burning and still in the process of catching my breath. I looked out at the mountains I love, and the Colorado sky was a blue color you can only see from this altitude-my favorite color, I might add. The deep green of the trees against the white of the snow, the colorful outfits the people were wearing, the sounds if life as it goes over each tower, and birds singing, and laughter, and the smell of the clean, fresh air out there in the wilderness-all those things were going through my mind and it was all beautiful. It filled me completely.
“I began thinking about other things that are like that for me, and my first thought was of the woman I had fallen in love with again, and how she filled me so completely. Then I stared thinking of other things-things in nature. And in the ten minutes it takes to go from the bottom of Bell Mountain lift to the top, I had written “Annie’s Song.” I had the melody in my head, and I knew the chords on the guitar. I skied down to the bottom, of the hill, raced home, picked up my guitar, and played it. Noel Stookey of Peter, Paul & Mary said sometimes he didn’t feel so much like the writer, but rather the instrument of that which wants to be written. That’s what this felt like to me. “Annie’s Song” is a song for all lovers and, in its deepest sense, a prayer to the love in us all.”

One of my favorite songs. I recorded myself playing my guitar and singing it accompanied by corresponding pictures we'd taken from all over the world for my wife's birthday 38 years ago. Sadly she left me and our son a few months later. Happily the Lord got my attention, converted my heart, showed me the permanence of marriage and empowered me to stay faithful to my vows and ever hopeful for our reconciliation.
that’s beautiful don, that really speaks to me - mostly because that’s what i’m currently going through right now LOL, deeefinitely not easy. especially when completely unexpected. but then i see the necessary change like you’re talking about - the one consequence that births our true selves, where i discovered genuine, pure love but it was only through humility was i surprisingly brought at peace with myself. sorry i’m rambling hahahah, i can imagine what you’re going through, you’re not alone my friend. cheers!

i rarely write down my words into youtube comments, but let me tell you my story.
the first time i know this song is when i watching "free fire" a british film that was aired by an indonesian television channel. though the song is played during the "open fire/shooting" scene - in which i had no idea about what's the relation in between this love song and shooting firing gun scene, but yet this song is somehow accepted into my ears. (even though i was really sure that this song is kinda oldies - i checked out wikipedia and it said that this song was released around 70's)
my mom asks me a question recently, "what's the song title that was played in that action/shooting film, in which you suddenly like that song?" (this annie's song is her childhood song by the way)
yeah i forgot about this john denver's song title, so i decided to dive down into youtube, then finally i found it.
but then i found this too - your rendition. feels a bit weird when i realized that this video is only got 63k views. this clearly deserve more views!
anyway, thanks for your cover. i'll tell my mom about this rendition (but i'm confident enough that she'll like this too)

What a marvelous rendition of John Denver’s song, Philip! I’ve been serching for a specion version of Annie’s Song & out of all of the one’s I found, yours totally blew me away. It is so beautifully mesmerizing that it left tears in my eyes. I’m planning to use it for a memorial service/dinner/wake for my sweet loving kitty who passed away last month at the age of 16.
